Joe hasn't been fired because the team has won 4 championships since 1996 and began a run of 3 in a row from 1998-2000 (when I first started watching :D ). Why have they won the championships? Because they've had good teams and the players came through in the clutch. Not because of Joe. In football, a team can almost be coached to a championship (The Patriots), but not in this sport. If Joe was managing the Pirates, he wouldn't have lasted more than 3-4 seasons.

You're treating this like its rocket science. It takes 44-45 years of experience to know when to make a pitching change or when to pinch run (or not)? It takes 4 decades of experience to suck a peach pit and make conversation with Willie Randolf? Don't sell yourself short M23, you might be able to do the job too.

So the manager doesn't get any credit when a team wins a World Series? Silliness.
This is the same ridiculous discussion that has taken place about Sparky Anderson's Reds teams, Casey Stengel's Yankee teams etc. Believe it or not, it's not just about filling out the lineup card and letting them play.

I know its not. I do think that a manager deserves some credit. There are some idiots out there who flat out, can't manage. If you've won a championship, you must have done something right along the way. However, its the players who win championships and the job is not that difficult. It doesn't compare to a football, hockey, or basketball coach. You're one of the people who I think could be a manager.

Its about filling out a lineup card and letting them play. Along the way, making correct substitutions, knowing when to hit-n-run, steal a base, and correctly position the fielders. Don't tell me that it takes someone special to do that. I'm sure you've sat at home and managed games in your own head. "I'd bring in _____ to face _____ in the 7th and get the lefty warming up because we're gonna have to pitch to _____. This guy's done, we need to bring in a long reliever. We've got the tying run at 2nd with 2 outs in the 9th, ____ is slow so we should pinch run for him so that he could score on a single. This catcher's only thrown out 19% of the attempted base stealers and the pitcher likes to go to his changeup a lot, we've got ____ on first, let's go for it." I know I'm not the only one who has run that stuff through his head. All it takes is common sense, sharp instincts, knowledge of the game (6+ years is enough), statistical breakdowns (which your bench coach can take care of), and a sociable personality. You don't need a Masters degree to manage.

The problem is not what Joe can or can’t do, it the plain simple fact he's not doing his job, The most fundamental part of managing he's just not reacting to the game, Jeter is in a terrible slump but it takes many things to come together to be a hitter, As mentioned Joe has been around many years, so to me he should be charged with dereliction of duty, He is an absentee manager. In short he's f*cking up at every opportunity he gets when it calls for an ounce of common sense, he is at this time simply awful.
