Yankees Cut Osborne, Activate Heredia

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Left-hander Donovan Osborne was designated for assignment by the New York Yankees (news) on Tuesday when the team activated reliever Felix Heredia.

Osborne, who went to spring training as a non-roster player and made the team, was 2-0 with a 7.13 ERA in two starts and seven relief appearances. After he gave up four second-inning runs Saturday against Seattle, he lost his job as the fifth starter when the Yankees acquired Tanyon Sturtze from Los Angeles.

New York has 10 days to trade Osborne, send him outright to the minors or place him on waivers for the purpose of his unconditional release.

Heredia allowed six earned runs in three innings at the start of the season. The left-hander then was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 17, a move retroactive to April 10, because of a bruised left index finger.

He pitched 3 2-3 scoreless innings in three relief appearances during a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Columbus.

Garbage for garbage. At least the new garbage will only screw things up for an inning instead of 4.

Yup, it would really be nice to have a reliable lefty in the pen.
