He's not a bad baserunner. How often does he make baserunning errors? He takes the extra base on gappers and he scores from first on doubles. He just can't steal bases because of his poor instincts and slow accleration. Hitting 2nd isn't rocket science here. And to hell with that "hits to right field" crap, cuz that doesn't happen often and Bernie hits to RF too. When he's batting lefty, its a pull and right handed, he goes to the opposite field a lot. Not that I want Bern batting #2, I'm just saying that he could. |

Can we get off Bernie's back for now? He doesn't even have the lowest average in the starting lineup. Right now, he, A-Rod, and Sierra are the only guys I trust to get a hit in a clutch spot. 473 - what makes you so sure that he's done? You're acting like you've never seen his "THIS MOTHERF'ER SUCKS!" April slumps beforee. He was batting .189 in April of 2002. He always has a terrible slump then comes back and bats .375 for a month. Write this down: I will eat crow if Bernie finishes the season batting under .300. I have him for .310/16 HR/85 RBI/.390 OBP...I GUARANTEE IT! |

I'm not sure he'll hit over .300, but I'll be happy with .270+. |

Exactly, he's 35 and has had some bad injuries the last couple years. I doubt he hits .265 this season. |

Oh please. I can make an argument that Jeter won't hit over .250. That hotstreak of his lasted a good 5 games. :smirk: |

I think they'll both have hotstreaks and pull their averages up at some point (I've seen too many of Bernie's slumps not to have confidence), but I just find it stupid for Bernie to constantly be getting ripped, while a guy who has no excuse of age/injuries and makes over $100M more and is performing worse, doesn't get any heat. |

35 years old + a bad knee + bad shoulders = finished. Captain Strapon will indeed only hit .275. |

Only f*cking idiots think 1 1/2 months of ball makes a season. Only f*cking idiots attack a longtime Yankee who is known to be very streaky. Go join a Bingo tournament or something. |

Don't make me list old injury prone players that are still perform on a topnotch basis. Bernie isn't the only aging injury prone guy. We happen to have another in Kevin Brown who is older than Bernie, and much more injury prone. Rafael Palmeiro plugs away at 40+ years old. One bad year of injuries and no stroke doesn't make you finished. |
