Anaheim's Jose Guillen was still angry about a high-and-tight pitch from Yankees reliever Paul Quantrill in the eighth inning Wednesday night. "I'm not afraid of him," Guillen said. "We'll take care of business if he wants." Said Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia: "He's excitable."

offensively, he's real good. has cut down a little on the strikeout and has thus elevated his obp to .408 ; nice arm too. but crying over an inside pitch in that situation, please . . . shudddap! ;)

He's still at it...from today's paper

Quote:

the Anaheim slugger who had a staredown with Yankees reliever Paul Quantrill Wednesday night after Quantrill threw a pitch inside during the eighth inning, was still mad at Quantrill yesterday.

"I told him if he's man enough, we'll take care of this on the side," Guillen said to a group of reporters in the Anaheim clubhouse. "I'm not afraid of anyone."

Torre said he didn't know what Guillen was mad about, since it was obvious Quantrill wasn't trying to hit him. The Angels were leading, 4-2, and the Yankees had just walked Vladimir Guerrero intentionally, to pitch to Guillen. After a double steal put runners on second and third, the Yankees then walked Guillen intentionally and Casey Kotchman doubled to score all three runners, making it 7-2 on the way to an 11-2 final.

"I don't know what that was about," Torre said of Guillen's reaction to Quantrill's inside pitch. "We're in a two-run game at that time, and having just walked someone intentionally, we're not about to put somebody else on base. We did, and you saw what happened."

Now he really needs one up and in.

i agree...but if he were wearing a Yankee uniform putting up the numbers he's putting up, i don't think any of you would be complaining about his big mouth.

Yeah I would...there was nothing wrong with that pitch.

so if he were a Yankee & putting up the numbers he's putting up now, you're telling me this would even be an issue w/any of you? please...you ever hear of a guy named Reggie Jackson? he wasn't Mr. Congeniality in his days here, but he was 1 of the most celebrated players of his era & was beloved by Yankee fans...now i'm not saying José Guillen is even close to being Reggie Jackson, but you get the point...in the end, it's all about the production a player gives you...all this other stuff about attitudes, big mouths & whatnot gets overlooked when that player is doing well for your team...it's only when that player doesn't produce (see Raul Mondesi), that fans of his team start to have a problem w/those types of things.

i know there was nothing wrong w/that pitch...but if A-Rod were to stare down a pitcher in the same situation, would we even be talking about this right now?

.408 OBP? The question that comes to mind should be obvious...

Yes, we would. This thread would have 32 replies with, "That pitcher's such an a-hole. You're a big man throwing baseballs at someone's head." New York fans are some of the most biased people.

HOWEVA, Guillen does need to shut up. When I first read MM's post, I was nonchalant because it didn't sound like something to care about. I read more of his quotes in The Post today, and he was cussing like an Alabama truck driver named Earl. He said something like, "I don't give a [bleep] if he has 20 years in the big leagues. He can go shove it up his [bleep]." He doesn't know how to work the fans and media. He's having a great season and had squashed the "bad attitude" image temporarily, now he's looking like a classless idiot.

With all that said, I'm trying to trade Matsui and Jorge DePaula for him in MVP. The Angels won't take it though. Any trade suggestions? Ignoring the fact that you don't like him and keeping in mind that its a video game, what's a realistic trade scenario that would put "Caliente Cabeza" in pinstripes?

"Da New Yawk Knicks, are TERR-I-BLE. Scott Layden is TERR-I-BLE... HOWEVA!"

He does a good impression of him. He should have kept it going though. After "HOWEVA" throw in "...the hiring of Isaiah Thomas and subesquent acquisition of Stephawn Mawbury has given this joke of a basketball franchise new hope fo' da future and returned RESPECTABILITY, BACK to New Yawk basketball. HOWEVA, they're still not a truly competitive basketball team. Not even in da Eastin' Confrence of da National Basketball Association." Scott Van Pelt is the man though. He's my favorite SC anchor.
