13:26:54 Dei stood before a table within the activity room, shifting a few peices of blocks together and fitting them in place. It was busywork mostly, working on fine motor skills and problem solving ability. She glanced up, watching a few people at other tables. "Am I doing this right?" She whispered to one of the kids. He glanced over, the block dropping out of th eair as it settled on the table. He looked over and shrugged. "I dont know. Maybe." She smiled her thanks and shrugged as she went back to the project. It was pretty much the average prep before christmas scene with tape, wrapping paper, and of course the puzzle materials taht they had to put together in the first place. Some were...well...doing better than others. One, she recalled, was eating the block. "Yummy..?" She chuckled and turned back to her work, putting the blocks in a cardboard box and fitting on the lid. "Merry christmas to me..." She mimed. 13:50:12 Lehn didn't need to do any ridiculous problem solving exercise. He wasn't into Christmas, so what was the point? "To make everyone else happy" they said. Whatever. Currently, he sat alone at a table in the corner - it was best that way; he didn't want to interact with the others and they certainly didn't want to interact with him. After all, he'd garnered a sort of "asshole" reputation - a "Negative Nancy" they said - simply because he didn't want to be around people ... and he was very open about that. So sitting alone at his table, away from the others, he seemed almost ... catatonic, sitting with his hands folded in his lap, staring at the untouched materials with glassy eyes that reflected his drugged state. The only sign that let others know that he was anything more than a corpse was the occasional blink from this pale, hollow, porcelain doll. "Lehn ...?" Started another student as she inched cautiously closer to his table. 13:50:13 [Lehn] "Uhm ... sorry to bother you, but uh, I'm almost, uhm, out of tape? And I was, uhm, wondering that ... like ... if you weren't going to, uhm, use yours ... do you think I could, like ... maybe ... borr...ow..." Her words slowed to a fade as those amber eyes came into focus and gradually move their gaze from the table top to lock onto her with a painstakingly slow and fluid motion. That was the look of hatred. Seething loathing. "Eh ... eh heh ..." she started with her nervous, frightening laughter, taking a step back, and then another. "Oh, of course, you're going to use it. I'm so sorrythatIbotheredyouI'mjustgonnagonowbye." The girl turned tail and ran back to the group from which she'd come ... and satisfied, Lehn's gaze sluggishly returned to the table top and drifted out of focus once more. 14:00:56 [Karma] The black and white walls all looked the same in this form. If it wasnt for her keen knowledge of where everything was, she would be totally lost. They'd all been ordered to do the Christmas crafts. They had said it would help them all cope better or some shit. She didnt think so. So here she was, avoiding the crafts all together. The orange stripped tail she currently sported twitched as she rounded the corner and stopped just outside the rec room's open door. "Meow." she purred before padding into the crowded room. Weaving in and out of feet, she rubbed her fur covered side against random students legs until she came out from the end of the tables. Turning, she lept up onto the craft covered surface, scattering items around and to the floor. "Meow." Another yowl, louder this time, got more then one person's attention. She had her sights set on one person though. The loner at the table in the corner. The one that hated everything. But who could resist a cuddly kitty? -- 14:01:07 [Karma] Well, he probably could, but she was bored and loved annoying people. Jumping from one table to the next, she padded infront of Lehn and curled into a ball infront of him, covering his materials. After a moment a loud, content purr sounded from the small animal, amber eyes resting thoughtfully on the boy. "Meow." 14:11:08 Dei Picked up the box and placed a swath of paper, or whatever they call it, under it. She tilted her head, and then crouched down as she centered the box exactly. From the corner of her eye, she saw an orange tabby weaving through the people. When did they get a cat? She stood up, satisfied, admiring the box for a moment as she heard a commotion from the corner. She glanced up to see a girl scrambling to get away. What was she doing bothering Lehn..? She blinked, wondering if she should see if he was okay or not. Biting her lip, she glanced at Lehn to see that same kitten curling up on his materials. "You okay?" She asked. She hadnt been standing too far away, but far enough away taht she hadnt caught the conversation, too busy with her own project. She reached up, brushing a lock of blond hair away from her eyes. 14:17:29 Lehn was a bit of a "hot commodity" when he came out of his hole of a room, those rare days when staff thought it best - and he was medicated well enough - to attempt a bit of "socialization" with the other students. The trouble with the situation was, however, that most of the students didn't know who he was, or what he could do, so that made them curious ... and unfortunately, it also made several of them invade his personal space ... and they always left it quickly, once those eyes locked onto them - often times experiencing the feeling of icy dread creeping up their spines and clawing at their hearts, as though they'd interrupted Death himself amidst a game of Chess. And it was at that moment that his harrowing gaze locked onto this ... cat ... that curled on top of his things. Things that he didn't care about and wasn't doing anything with, but still, she was within his line of sight ... and those glassy amber orbs came into focus, the pitch pupils dialating only slightly. It wasn't that he hated 14:17:33 [Lehn] everything ... it was just that he was ... miserable. No, he just stared at this cat until Dei spoke to him ... and he replied instantly with that familiar, mechanical monotone. "No." Having known Dei for as long as he had, one would find no reason for Lehn to hide anything from her, especially when he wasn't "okay" - at least he was honest. "... Karma is attempting to be cute." 14:25:02 Dei watched him for a moment longer, and nodded. She smiled as she watched the kitten even more. "Karma?" She said blankly, trying to place her. Her face went blank for a moment, and then she nodded. "Ah. Okay." She thought it must be tough for him to be here, but she couldnt exactly say anything against it. Dropping her things onto the table, she scooted out from behind it and made her way over, trying to guard her thoughts as best as she could and bracing herself for any backlash. She felt the backlash of glares coming her way as she walked over, being careful not to trip over anything. She was barefoot today, wearing a simple white dress without adornment. It was all the rage these days..if you were a doctor. "I'll take her out of your hair if you want.." She said softly as she reached for the kitten to pet her. She was medicated as well, her eyes slightly dull, but she didnt mind if he glared at her. They were used to each other. 14:40:30 Lehn found this situation not so much tough, just uncomfortable ... annoying ... irritating ... pointless. What was this? To get him to "know" the other students? He already knew everything about them. The reason for him being out was so they would get to know him - after all, they were the ones who would eventually have to work with him, weren't they? They needed to understand who a potential partner or teammate was, how he worked and interacted with them ... perhaps it was all part of Lehn's plan, to drive everyone away from him, to become so completely impossible to work with that the Insitute would decide him unfit and - finally - dispose of him. They'd caught on to his plan, however - and they still enforced it ... eventually, one of them would break. One could suspect that the only reason he even attempted to be "friendly" with Deidra was because she had something he wanted - she could negate his power, make the voices of everyone else in Morris become quiet ... she could bring him 14:40:35 [Lehn] peace - but oh, those in authority did not approve of that. Lehn was simply too strong of a telepath for them to allow such a thing, even for just a few minutes - worry over whether or not he'd be able to get it all back, work as well as he did before. But still, it was some small semblance of a dream within that hollow mind. No, no backlash today - too much sedation. Instead, he focused his "hostility" toward the kitten on the table and spoke in reply, voice deadpan. "Is it dinner time? I am suddenly craving Chinese ..." A joke? Yes. A bad one, delivered in a completely dry and emotionless tone. 14:57:40 Dei watched him for a few moments more and gathered the kitten up in her arms, cuddling the mass of furr to her chest. "Chinese is good, but this kitty isnt for eating." She hoped Karma wouldnt bite or scratch her as she lifted her from the table and put her on the floor. Glancing over at the clock, she shook her head. "45 minutes till dinnertime. Sorry Lehn. You could eat some blocks i fyou wanted. I hear they're high in fiber." She said, eyeing one of the kids who was doing just that. Ew. Human garbage disposals were so disgusting. She smiled, remembering Preston, who did just that. Or did he? Too many patients too litle time. She turned her eyes back to Lehn, and reached down, removing a gloved hand. Yes, gloves. They made her keep it on her to avoid 'contact' with students. She reached up, brushing the back of her fingers against Lehns cheek, giving him aslight numbing effect. It wasnt enough to do much of anything, but she sympathized. After a moment, she dropped her hand and moved her way back to her table 14:57:49 [Dei] , her bare feet cold against the linolium. 15:02:05 Lei` couldn't have been happier. Well, maybe he could have, but it would have taken some seriously perfect conditions. "I'm WAAAALKIN' on sunshine, oh, ohhh-a-woahhh~" Actually, he didn't sing badly. Just boisterously, loudly, and with seemingly no care at all for where he was of what he was doing. Not that this could be called remotely surprising, considering Leighton's condition. He had been playing with the same piece for a good fifteen minutes now, which amused him to no end, because what it was kept changing! The size, the shape, the colour, the texture, it was all rather liquid and entirely inconsistent. Though the 'piece' was, in actuality, an oblique rhombus, it presently looked rather more like the end car from a mag-lev bullet train, and it was firing off little sparks of red and white and green rather cheerily. Christmas spirit? Not exceptionally. When he wasn't in a lucid state, Lei couldn't be bothered to keep track of the date, and he really had no idea Christmas was an upcoming > 15:04:01 Lei` < event. Besides, Christmas wouldn't bring back his Edmunds, and they had promised to return one day, when they had completed their glorious and noble quest to elsewhere. For now, he had to make do with a different sort of companionship. Principally, the little blue men who waved out the window of the mag-lev train in his hands, whistling and cheering as he raised the illusory thing up and inspected it. He could fascinate himself with just about anything. A valuable skill, really. |

15:13:49 Lehn allowed his eyes to go out of focus once the feline was removed from his sight, glassy gaze of amber staring at nothing and seeming to see beyond the table top, into the depths of Hell with that same ... blank ... expression. He didn't seem to react to anything now, not until she touched him. And for a moment, just a moment - without the use of sedatives - the volume of voices was turned down just a hair ... and, for a second, his eyes fluttered closed - but only for a second. He didn't say "thank you" - didn't display any form of gratitude, not in thought or even emotion, there was nothing there but the muted echo of thoughts, seemingly none his own - and if he did have his own voice within that sea of sound, it was too weak and drowned out by all the other minds within the cavern. However, there was a faint physical reaction to that slight numbness - relief, perhaps, even for a moment. Most people would think that it wouldn't help him much, but in truth - when one was constantly bombarded 15:13:55 [Lehn] by the thoughts of others, any form of relief (even small) was more than enough to help him. But this momentary respite was short-lived as Lei began singing ... loudly ... and yes, there was a reason why Lehn was placed on the other side of the room, in the farthest point possible from the student. With his eyes opening once more, he rose to his feet and stepped away from his table in that usual ghost-like glide, keeping close to the wall as long, spidery fingers trailed along the surface ... yes, he was leaving the room. He'd had enough "socializing". 15:22:07 Dei moved back to her table even as the boisterous lei came caroling in. Her eyes widening, she made her way over to him, and placed a gloved hand against his mouth. "Shhhh! quiet.." She took his hand and drew him back out into the hallway. "We've got to be quiet okay? Some people...dont react well..to loud noises." She said softly, her eyes wide and on his. On the other side fo the room, Lehn was slowly sneaking out. She didnt blame him, not really. He hadnt done well. When she was sure that he might be quiet, she lowered her hand and placed it on her lips again. "Shhh." Then she smiled. "Want to work on christmas gifts?' She tilted her head, rocking on her heels. 15:30:23 Lei` raised both his eyebrows entirely uncertainly. What now? "People don't like music? How could anyone not like music? That's like disliking HAPPINESS, and anyone who dislikes happiness really can't be very nice at all," And Lei didn't say that about many things, since just about everything was wonderful as far as he was concerned. It was difficult to comprehend a world in which everything wasn't incredible, fascinating, spectacular, and so on. Of course, it was also difficult for him to imagine a world in which the ceiling didn't periodically melt, giving way to a swarm of singing butterflies led by the mysterious and beautiful Captain Hobbiton, imported fresh from the moon... tasty. "Can I still sing if it's quieter?" He looked, for lack of a better word, momentarily put off. How could anyone not be okay with noise? It simply didn't make sense. It didn't make any sense... "...Christmas?" And the put-off expression turned to utterly, completely mystified. "Is that the one with the Jewish zombies or the one > 15:30:32 Lei` < where you eat too much and everything's amazing?" 15:43:49 Dei stared at him blankly for a moment, trying to think of what to say. "Music isnt everythign and i'm sorry baby but I think your tone deaf?"...scratch that. She couldnt say that to him. Instead she just watched him and scratched the back of her head. "Well, um.." She bit her lip and thought about it. "Yeah, I think you could..because well..." She trailed off ..but could you change songs? Its not going to b great hearing something like abroken record...No she couldnt say that. Great. Just great. "Yeah, Christmas. No..no..thats thanksgiving, and i'm not really sure where zombies come into it. But...um.." She just shook her head and walked right back into the activity room. 15:47:55 Lehn continued to wander silently along the wall, fingers trailing as the unfocused eyes remained downcast. No, he hadn't done well on this outing - and perhaps that was his intention. Then again, this had technically been good outing, as no one had been hurt ... yet. Lei was correct; Lehn wasn't very nice. In fact, he wasn't nice at all - but it wasn't because he didn't like music - it was the volume and the sheer mayhem in Lei's mind that Lehn didn't like, and the fact that he knew Lei could be coherent if he wanted - but no, he'd rather be constantly lost in a perpetual acid trip. It was like a circus had decided to parade through his mind, and the telepath didn't like it ... at all ... all those bells and whistles, the animal noises - but one might consider it fortunate that when sedated he only experienced thoughts in the audio sense. Nevertheless, when he was near the door, his almost perfect record of the day would be shattered as an unsuspecting underclassman caught up with 15:48:16 [Lehn] him with the intent of using the telepath's materials if he was leaving. But Lehn's feet slowed to a stop and he remained frozen in place as the boy spoke. "Excuse me, Lehn, but if you're---ah ... ah AAAAHHHHH!!!!" The boy clutched at his head as he drew closer to Lehn, suddenly toppling to his knees on the floor as a flood of echoed thoughts were channeled into his mind. Screams, which caused every coherent person in the rec room to turn their heads and stare. And the staff member in charge of the activity watched the scene with wide eyes as she scrambled over to the fallen student. "Lehn!" His head snapped forward and nothing more. "Stop it!" And at that point, the underclassman ceased his screaming and continued to cradle his head on the floor, panting and sniffling between whimpers. The woman stood and pointed sharply down the hall with a firm "Go" - to which Lehn slowly turned and stepped on into the corridor with his slow, ghostly gait with a muttered "Gladly." 15:48:17 [Lehn] And thus, he went. 15:59:55 Karma laid curled on the floor, apparently napping. Shifting took alot out of her and topped with the wakefulness a lazy cat would have, she selpt. But she didnt get to catch those wonderful zzz's for as long as she might have wished for. Jolting from her rest with a protesting yowl, she jumped and arched her back, hissing at the screaming boy. When she was in an animal form, everything was heightened. The scream made her want to cringe, if a cat could cringe. Quickly backing up, her form changed, the cat almost melting away and the girl taking its place. Stretching her arms over her head, she arched her back and popped joints back into place. Once she was back into herself agian, she took a moment to access the situation. Lehn, who she knew never really did good around others, seemed to be the attacker and the poor kid curled on the floor his unfortunate victim. She knew she should stay out of it, but just like her favorite form, curiosty won out and she jogged out of the activity room and followed after the --- 15:59:59 [Karma] retreating Lehn. "Lehn. Wait up." She wasnt affraid of him. Not really. Sure, she was nervouse, but she wouldnt back down and run away. Continueing to jog, she moved up the hall until she was in step with him. Once there, she didnt say much of anything, just walked, casting a glance every now and then at him. 16:05:30 Lehn did not wait, much less stop, at Jessica's call - but then, he wasn't walking very fast either, more like a slow, ghoulish gait, keeping his fingers to the wall as he continued up the corridor. She had every right to be nervous, especially after what he'd just done to that poor boy - Lehn was liable to do it again. To anyone. He didn't change his tempo, didn't glance up, only said one word in that dead tone. "What." 16:05:42 [Lehn] Short post is short.}} 16:14:08 Lei` looked up at the screaming, though it was more a bewildered look than anything. What, what was that... that was happening? It really didn't seem to occur to him that Lehn had attacked someone else. No, Leighton's innocence wasn't going to be shattered that easily. He could be rather difficult to get through to even on the best of days, mainly because when he was lucid he avoided people, and when he wasn't, he was clueless. "Deeeidra? What's happening?" Momentarily forgotten were his questions about Jewish zombies and eating too much. Forgotten as well was his overwhelming desire to sing, rather, he found himself overwhelmed with a sort of morbid (GLEEFULLY morbid) curiosity. "Why was he screaming..?" It simply made no sense. And, in all likelihood, if Dei didn't keep him focused on it, he would move on to something else in a matter of seconds anyway. He licked his lips thoughtfully, his eyes already drifting towards the ceiling as the eternal ability to distract himself from the entire world > 16:14:23 Lei` < promptly started presenting itself again. 16:16:30 Karma shrugged at his question. "Just wanted to walk. Turns out we're headed in the same direction. So why not walk together?" Looking at him, she smiled lightly then went back watching down the hall. Slipping her hands into her pocket, she chewed lightly on her lip. "So. Doing anything special for Christmas?" Christmas, like any other holiday in this place, sucked. Atleast to her it did. She didnt really have any friends. When you could make yourself look like anything or anyone, people seemed to stear clear of you for fear you're either going copy them or turn into a blood thirsty beast and eat them. She, of course, would do nither, most of the time. But still, people were just nervous around her, just as most people were nervous around Lehn. Maybe the purpose of walking with him was to let him know that not everyone was scared of him. That he had one potential friend. 16:16:41 [Karma] (Sucky post sucked. Distracted.) 16:16:45 [Dei] mah post. >> 16:23:04 Dei stopped short of her table when she saw the boy go down screaming. She looked up, her eyes wide and on Lehn as he was then ordered to leave th eroom. She didnt think he would do that. Havent she helped? She cheweed on the inside of her cheek, and as Lei came over to her, she shrugged, not really wanting to get into it. "I dont know. Strange things go on around here..." She sat down in her seat and scooted up to her project, suddenly disinterested in it. She stared at it for a few moments even as the adult worked on calming the others down. She was starting to have a headache. Stress perhaps? Only somewhat. Come downstairs.. She rubbed the side of her forhead and slowly stood up. "I'm going to go..You enjoy the festivities okay?" She smiled brightly at Lei and then made her way over to the door, pulling on the glove she had taken off earlier. She paused in the hallway, watching Karma disappear down the hallway with Lehn. She moved off in the other direction, towards the sub levels. 16:36:12 Lehn did not need friends, did not need people and did not need life - he'd made that perfectly clear to the staff of Morris Research Institute with his many suicide attempts, his anorexia and outright refusal to eat, socialize, constant attacks on other students and staff who just happened to approach him at "the wrong time" - though no one could safely determine when, exactly, was the wrong time as those attacks seemed to come without warning, rhyme or reason. Fine. He'd let her walk with him ... to the elevator, the long fingers lightly dragging their tips along the wall before pressing the "down" button and holding it long after it had illuminated ... just ... pressing it down and not letting up. Dei had helped slightly, not partly or significantly, much less completely - and with the appearance of Lei, that had only made things all the more worse for the telepath. Right now, though, he just wanted to go back to his room - which was where he wanted to be all day, if not dead - back to the darkness 16:36:13 [Lehn] and drug-induced catatonic state locked away within the sublevels of the facility - quarters where only the "precious" or "threats" - or in some cases "precious threats" - were kept. He made no protest to Jessica walking with him, however, when she asked him about Christmas, he answered with a very simple, firm, dead "No." And that was all - the syllable lingering in the air as the doors to the elevator opened. One second pause, and then he stepped inside, pivoted on the ball of his foot, and pressed the button to his floor. He did not hold the elevator for her or anyone, in fact, he held up a hand in a classic "stop" gesture, arm moving in a quick and fluid motion ... and held it as the doors quickly closed. And thus, Lehn was gone. And who knew when he would be seen again ... Edited by Deidra, Dec 7 2010, 08:43 PM.
