17:43:42 Dei The day was cold again, if you could count tropical temperate to be cold. Dei paced back and forth in the clinic, bare feet chilled against the tile flooring as she waited for the nurse practitioner to arrive. Beep...beep.. The monitor beeped incessently, disturbing her thoughts. She was wearing sterile pink pants and a black tank top, with a white overcoat over that. Her hands were covered in a filmy plastic, keeping her hands from all contact. Her hair was outlinedin pink today, bare against her shoulders. She slumped back against the sterile walls, crossing her arms as the Nurse knocked. She glanced up but did not move. "Your medication is ready." Words of honey on an artificial face. Dei stared at her in open defiance. "I do not want my medication." Her voice was merely a whisper, but even then it held power. Her eyes met with the NP and held it. The NP smiled nervously. "Now now Deidra, do not put up a fuss. You must take it." The sounds were usual, almost normal within the facility

17:43:59 [Dei] .. almost as if it were rehearsed. Take it Dei... Cautioned the voice in her head. She rose a hand to her temple, pain exploding. She glanced up, the security guard having paused in the doorway. She crumpled to the ground, unable to get her muscles to work as the Nurse caught her and set her down in the chair. The sound of a seal breaking. She closed her eyes, feeling the sharp pain as a needle was put in, the injection given. She hissed through her teeth, closing her eyes for a minute longer as the familiar drug settled in. When she opened her eyes, the nurse was gone and so was the man.
17:54:58 Lei` was feeling pretty great. And by 'pretty great' of course he meant spectacular, and why wouldn't he be feeling amazing? Leighton Zidane had a school of brightly coloured shiny fishes swimming around him![/i] Some of them were red, some pink, some gold, or orange, or blue, some a spectacular mix of colours, some pastel, some metallic, some earthy. The main point was it was a school of multi-coloured flying fish, and it was his entourage of the moment. He hadn't objected to his medications - he never did, after all. They only medicate sick people, so he must be sick and they must be helping him get better, right? And that's <i>GREAT! Yes, the good mood of the boy called Marzipan was irrepressible, indeed, it was often contagious, more for the fact that he was often accompanied by something truly bizarre and beautiful that made it impossibly difficult not to smile than anything. Human LSD, he'd been called. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, too - that was a popular nickname for him amongst the >

17:58:59 Lei` < doctors here. Or just Lucy. He didn't like that one quite as well, but in the end he didn't mind it, because he felt FANTASTIC. Aaaanyway. It so happened that Lei was passing down a particular hall at that particular moment, and it so happened that he was making no particular effort to suppress the illusory terrain that accompanied him, so that led to certain unusual things, like orchids blossoming out of the doorknobs, and fuzzy purple grass, or mold, or something fuzzy and purple, growing over the floor. And, of course, the flying fishes. They darted and swam about like fish will, less a cloud and more a disorganized pack of school children with only a rough destination in mind, and no hurry to get there. Since, well, Lei had only a rough destination in mind - somewhere else - and only a rough idea of how to get there - keep walking - himself.
18:11:08 Dei grabbed the back of the chair and pulled herself up, the area around the injection numbing. She was given no alcohol wipe, and no bandaid. She closed her eyes even as the world swam around her and recentered, her muscles working again, though a bit grudgingly. She let out a breath and took off the med coat, though she disliked wearing it anyway. Her senses dulled and she stepped out of the room and into a particular hallway. She paused, her hand moving to the door to steady herself as she saw someone..no...something walking down the hallway. Her eyes flickered up as she stared at the fishes, her gloves creaking as she curled her fingers ahrder against the door frame. She tried to remember the face of the boy who walked towards her, but for the moment she just couldnt place him. "Nice..fish.." She called out.
18:23:43 Lei` hadn't really been anticipating company, aside from the fishies anyway, but that was okay, because company was great, just like everything else in the world! Yes, the world was wonderful, and he was happy to be a part of it. So when a particularly bright-haired girl - one who would have fit right in with the strange arcana he produced - called out to him, he started at once, before looking her way with a VERY bright grin and responding. "Thank you! I was naming them, but there's at least a hundred of them and they all keep changing colours, and I can't really keep track of which one's which. So they're all Edmund now. You know, like Edmund from Narnia. I liked those books, they were wonderful." Then again, just about everything was wonderful in Lei's eyes just now. He stopped his forward progress momentarily to turn instead for her door, closing the distance quickly. "D'you have a name? I'm Leighton. But you can call me Lei, or Ellie. Or Marzipan, because Marzipan is tasty. Or Lucy, that's >

18:24:33 Lei` < the doctors like to call me, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. I think it's a reference to one of those old bands. The Eagles maybe? I dunno. I could sing it, probably, but I only know a couple of the words." Raaaaaambling seemed to be a strength of his.
18:35:08 Dei stared up at the fish with bright blue eyes, glancing up as the fish danced around her head. She moved back and reached up to run her fingers along the fish. They were slimy and wet, and she wrinkled her nose. "They feel like putty.." Her eyes came down to meet his as he abruptly stopped in front of the door, and she took a few steps back so she wouldnt touch him, her eyes locking on his. "Deidra.." She said softly. "Nice to meet you Leighton.." She had never had Marzipan herself. "I've never heard the Eagles.. I thought they were birds.." She reached up and scratched her nose. "So, you cand o this..?" She pointed up towards the fish as her eyes wandered back to watching them, even as vines started to grow behind him.
18:43:48 Lei` grinned a little brighter, even laughed. "Well, of course they do. They're fish, what would you expect them to feel like?" He was pretty sure fish were always slimy and wet, which was why he didn't touch them, but they sure were nice to look at. "Deidra. Deidra. Deidra. I should remember that. Deidra. Is that Irish? It sounds Irish. Or maybe Welsh..." He glanced about at the fish, quickly. "I always thought the Eagles were birds too, but then I saw a CD by the Eagles in one of the doctor's bags, it also said something about a hotel in California. I heard California's nice, it probably has strawberries, too." Leighton liked strawberries. "I can do what?" He looked blank for a moment. "The fish? They just follow me. Or, they've been following me today anyway. They weren't there yesterday, but I like them. Maybe they'll stick around and tell me their names sometime."
18:53:46 Dei shrugged lightly, dropping her hand as her fingers curled against the flesh of her palm. "I dont know, but i'm pretty sure fish are in the water, not in the air. " I like that song, it plays on the radio sometimes when the Docs are feeling generous. " She commented lightly, even as the speakers turned on. A crackling noise could be heard, along with a slight whine as the machine warmed up. And tonight we are having baked cod with a fine white wine sauce. Rice and veggies include, with a chocolate pudding. Her hand slapped over her mouth as she giggled. "Looks like we're going to have baked Edmund's.." She grinned against her palm, and then realized what she said. Her eyes went wide. "Oh, I'm not being serious you know! The fish.. I'm sure they wont be caught in little bitty nets...and...and.." She hiccuped from giggling. She wasnt trying to be mean.
19:02:34 Lei` put on a momentary look of horror, though it passed quickly into a fit of giggling. "I don't think the Edmunds would like being baked, which is good, because if anyone tried baking them they'd probably be very angry and sprout great big runny legs like a centipede. I've seen them do it, you know. They're also guarded by an invisible shark with a rocket ship, but I'm not supposed to talk about him, he told me as much." Lei grinned a little. "I like the sound of the chocolate pudding though. I like chocolate. It's like happiness for your mouth." Obviously, Leighton knew a thing or two about happiness, so that was high praise indeed for a foodstuff. "Is it dinner time already? I was going to go somewhere. I never really decided where, so maybe it was the cafeteria. That's still somewhere, isn't it?" He clapped his hands and, abruptly at the sound, the hundred-or-so Edmunds were no more, each popping into a fountain of iridescent bubbles that gradually floated down before popping on the ground. Where they >

19:03:24 Lei` < popped, little patches of clover and violet popped up, spreading into full bloom within seconds. It hadn't been intentional, indeed, Lei didn't even seem to realize he had caused it. "Oh, the Edmunds had to go..." Living in the world he did, small wonder he was so upbeat.
19:20:00 Dei glanced up at the fishes, giggling again even as he broke out into giggles himself. She tilted her head listening to him, wondering what he must have been on. "You're crazy.' She said grinnning. She couldnt remember the last time when she had enjoyed herself so much as she was now. "Mmmm, yes." She agreed. She loved chocolate. In fact, her player was currentyl eating chocolate pudding with crushed oreos in the mix. yum.. She let out a breath, calming down as she nodded to Leis question. 'Yup." She watched as tthe little bubbles floated down and popped, and she rubbed her eyes, wondering if she was seeing things. Was it the medication that was causing this, or was he really there? She shook her head to clear her thoughts, rubbing her temple as the numbing effects drugged on. "Yeah, cafeteria is the place to be next. They only serve dinner once, so if you miss it you are screwed until the next morning." She said softly as she grabbed his hand and yanked him forward. "Come on, i'll show you where it is."
19:30:09 Lei` wrinkled his nose, giving her a truly pensive look. "Crazy? I don't think I'm crazy. The world is wonderful, and there's no point trying to make sense of it, that's all. Like that time it was raining kittens who were also ninjas, and they taught me the secret to eternal happiness in exchange for my dinner." The long and short was, yes, he was crazy. But who really cared about that? He was the sort of crazy you could sit down and have a beer with, were they not both several years underage and institutionalized. Plus, alcohol and drugs were hardly a necessity around Lei anyway... Dei grabbed onto his hand and pulled him along, which brought out a squeak of surprise before his legs caught up with him and he dashed after. "Heeeey!" It wasn't an angry cry or anything. What, Lei, angry? Perish the thought. "Is it pretty there?" Considering that the warped colours and landscape seemed to be following him footstep for footstep, the answer was probably yes, since everything around him was colorful at >

19:30:27 Lei` < the very least.

19:35:27 Dei ceased to listen for the moment as he spouted about his nonesense. She shifted, walking over a few of the vines that continued to grow and whatever else was showing iupi as he caught up with her. She wasnt crazy, her problem was much much worse. Completely ignorant of mostof the outside world, she had once asked someone what a Japan was. "Its alright, you'll like it...i think.." She wasnt sure that there was something he'd dislike. She sped up as she saw the cafeteria doors begin to close. "hey!" Her eyes widened, and she let go of him, sliding against the tiles as she stuck her foot in the door to keep her place. "Open up, two more coming.." Her eyes wide, the door was abruptly shoved open as she slipped in, holding the automated door in front of her, her muscles straining. "C'mon get in.." She huffed. She let the door close behind him and they were in a nondescript cafeteria with joy and happiness typical that of a morgue.
19:45:42 Lei` picked up his pace rather quickly as the door nearly shut them out, ducking through it after Deidra. There wasn't really any worry that he wouldn't make it - the world didn't work like that, after all! - but that didn't mean he couldn't go faster out of respect for her concerns. Wasn't it just like people to be sure that bad things happened and that things weren't happy? "I smell onions. Or, more than onions, I think they call it mirepoix, but I'm not sure, and they use it in sauces and soups and things..." He paused. "I've been here before. I remember I didn't like it as well as not being here, it always felt like there were too many strawberries, you know?" He rubbed the back of his head uncertainly. "Also, people don't usually talk to me, but I have no idea why, it just seems normal for them to all be reclusive and boring. I think that must be one of the ways people bore eachother, isn't it?" That was probably about as down as he had sounded yet, and even that passed slightly as he moved onto another >
19:46:47 Lei` < topic fluidly. "Your hair is pretty though, it's colorful! I like colour, I always try to make sure I'm around colorful things, because the world wouldn't be so happy if it were gray and dark." Darkness, that scared him. "Is it naturally like that?"
19:55:59 Dei moved through the brightly lit room, feeling like she was in a surgeons office with its white nondescript walls and its faint odors, though it smelled like food and formaldihide. Gross. She let go of his hand and moved forward as he jabbered at her. "You talk too much." She glanced back at him, and gave him a sympathetic smile. "But its okay because your interesting. And you arent trying otkill me. Thats a plus." What a strange comment coming from a 16 year old. She paused and glancd at her own hair, shrugging. "Yeah, its always been like this. When I was younger it was even blonder. Almost snow white."
20:03:43 Lei` raised both his eyebrows thoughtfully. "I'd probably talk less if you were talking more, you know..." But regardless, at that comment he went quiet for awhile. Didn't really look hurt or anything, it probably wasn't easy to hurt his feelings considering everything else about it. "Why... why would I try to kill you? Most people don't talk to me, except the doctors I mean. I don't really know why. But I certainly wouldn't try to kill you..." Did people actually try to kill eachother? Leighton knew that there was killing and fighting and death in the books he read, but those books were fantasy! Surely that wasn't real! It just seemed so pointless and cruel, killing someone else. Anyway, he went quiet again as he contemplated those things, before, ultimately, his mind wandered one more time. He did continue following close at her heels, though. After all, she seemed to know where she was going. View wasn't bad either. (What? Crazy is still seventeen!)
20:12:35 Dei opened her mouth to say something, and then she shut it again. He wasright in that regard. Of the two, she was the quieter one, but in all fairness the drugs had something to do with that. "Because...because of what I can do." She said nervously, wondering with a teenagers focus what he would think of her if she told him. She moved over to the line and picked up a tray, grabbing some of the food she wanted to eat as he went silent, unaware he was looking at other attributes as well. Humming something calming, she grabbed the last of her food and made her way to a table, and took a seat. It was near the door, but less than full rather than the extremely full ones on the other side of the room. People created a space around her and she sat down without having the overcrowding most had. She glanced up, watching him. "HOw long have you been here?"
20:20:56 Lei` had no real intention of giving Deidra space, of course, that wouldn't make any sense. He had a friend now! (And one with, ahem, 'assets'.) Surely he wasn't going to wander off and go back to not talking to anyone and seeing if he could make the rain change colours and turn into candy. So, with his tray of food, he promptly sat right next to her, his features once again overcome with that cheery, heady grin. "Been here? Oh, I don't know. I'm seventeen now, so I imagine seventeen years, give or take. There was a lot of interesting stuff along the way but I always go to sleep here so that probably means..." Nod, trail off. He was making an effort not to talk too much, he really was! After all, ASIDE from any possible ulterior motives Lei might have had, Deidra seemed like she really needed external cheer, and Leighton was trying to offer that. "I think it's a nice place. I mean, I don't think there's much of anywhere that isn't nice, it's really all in how you perceive it, right?" Here, >

20:22:02 Lei` < he stopped talking for exactly long enough to scoop up a bite of rice, vegetables, and pudding, all haphazardly mixed together. "Like, I can show you something, if you like, the most wonderful thing I ever saw, it was a few years ago while I was here."
20:26:40 Dei watched him, keeping that friendly smile on her face. It didnt hurt to make enemies, and she was relieved when he didnt ask what she could do. After all, he probably wouldnt appreciate it in his lucid moments, if he was ever going to have any. She picked up her fork and moved it around her plate, moving some of the food around to cool it as she listened to him. "I've only been here for a few months..we used to be..in the states.." She said softly even as warmer tropical air wafted through the open windows near the ceiling. "I'm sixteen. So you were born here?" That seemed to be a little bit of a redundant question. She popped the food into her mouth, chewing it slowly before swallowing. She continued to eat that way. For all intents and purposes, she was hungry after all. "Well sure." She nodded, giving him a smile again. "What is it?"
20:35:22 Lei` canted his head to the side a little when she asked if he'd been born here. Raised both his eyebrows. "Were you? I dunno. I don't remember my birth. I assume there were fireworks." Short pause. "Awesome fireworks." He really didn't seem to be touching much of his food, just picking up bits and pieces here or there or elsewhere, usually doused in chocolate pudding, whether it was cod or rice or broccoli. "I mean, they can tell you anything, but if you can't remember it it's like Schultz' cat. The one that Snoopy used to battle." Okay, yeah, theoretical physics was not a strong point for Leighton, since in his world the laws of physics really tended to be more... a suggestion than a hard rule. Regardless, given permission, he grinned at her. "Just, don't stand up, sometimes people get dizzy when I do this..." And he proceeded to cast a vision her way. Well, in absolute terms, a still image, a captured frame, that one moment when he'd seen it. It, the image he mentally shared, was >
20:38:18 Lei` < certainly something rather strange. It might have been described as a fractal, or perhaps more accurately a snowflake, composed of tens of thousands of points of light, in many different colors, spiraling along a semi-uniform axis. The shared image only lasted a moment before he drifted away from the memory. "I have no idea what it was. I saw it, in one of my sessions, with Dr. Rosenberg. He told me I shouldn't think about it, but it made me feel... so... vibrantly alive." Granted, his reaction to strange images was probably a little different from most people's. He also probably experienced them more often than most people...

20:47:34 Dei shook her head. "I wasnt born here. I was born way up north.." She said softly. She had come here when she was needed though, which to say wasn't very often. AT all. At least here they could roam the island better without much restriction. Mostly. Not like they could swim anywhere. Or could they? putting that thought aside, she watched him, tilting her head. "Whats a Snoopy? Oh! Is it one of those ninjas that sneak around all stealth like?" Her eyes widened at the thought. She had always wanted to be a ninja and she was pretty sure that she could do it with only a little more practice. "Huh? Okay, I wont stand up." She trailed off, wondering what he was talking about. Then before she knew it, the vision slammed into her and she gasped as the snowflake filled her vision. She tried to blink it away but instead curled her fingers over the bench. She stared at it in absoulte wonder, sighing regretfully as it went away. "That was..pretty cool." She said, her voice hushed.
21:00:23 Lei` waited until she had, well, recovered from having an image thrust into her mind's eye like that. Most people found it pretty jarring. Lei knew he probably would have, except he didn't find visions of much of anything to be jarring, ever. Which was a byproduct of course of the fact he had just a few minutes earlier been ambling down the hallway in the midst of a school of brightly coloured, effervescent fish. That proceeded to turn into bubbles and then pop into wildflowers. Ahem. "When I saw it, I thought it was how it must feel to look into the eyes of the universe... I don't know. Rosenberg has always been nice to me," Did Lei think anybody wasn't nice? "So I've always kind of thought it might be dangerous, and he just didn't want me in danger. But I can't forget it." He grinned, entirely irreverently, once again jumping away into another topic as naturally as if he were a turtle basking in the sun. Or something. "What's it like way up north? I don't think I've ever been there."
21:06:55 Dei let the vision disappate, and she grinned nervously, as she rubbed her eyes some and got over it. "Well, it was certainly interesting. That was a ..very beautiful snow flake." She nodded. AS he mentioned the north, she scratched the back of her head, waiting for her body to reorient itself. She did not try to stand up. No, not at his suggestion. She ran her fingers along the gloves she wore, watching him curiously. "I think thats a very cool thought." She agreed. "North? Oh, well..its cold..and there's a lot of those little flakes you showed me. Millions and millions of them."
21:17:18 Lei` rubbed his nose quickly and, at about this point, decided he was quite done with his dinner. (He had no more chocolate pudding to heap on top of the other, less interesting foodstuffs, after all.) "I like snow. It only ever seems to snow on me around here, though. I did see snow on Mount Rushmore, but that was a special case, really, since Nepal's quite a long way away." Yeah, one of the things Lei said that one pretty much just had to nod and smile to... plainly, not everything was going to make sense around someone like him. And that was simply the way it was. "What's cold like?" He asked that quite abruptly, realizing that he really didn't know. He'd never experienced not being warm, at least not that he could remember. Memory, of course, was a spotty way to judge things, as it was neither concrete nor particularly accurate, and when illusions are brought into the mix it makes it that much more fallible. "I think I'd like to try being cold someday. There's a million things to experience that I >

21:17:24 Lei` < haven't. At least. Maybe two million."
