Yup. They can have defense, but unless they are hit first, they can't retaliate. Which I think is stupid. |

You obviously have not really studied WWII. There was only one post war treaty, the Treaty of Versailles, which was, of course, formed due to the end of WWI. This treaty was signed by all the major European powers (I believe, it may have just been the allies), and thus, went into effect. That is NOT what caused WWII. It may have contributed, but it did not solely start WWII. WWII was caused by several contributing factors, including inflation, the New York Stock Market crashing, the German Government printing more money to counter the stock market crash, and Hitler lying to get himself into a position of power (although, in a sense, he wasn't really lying. He did provide with work and food...for Germans). The Treaty of Versailles itself did not cause WWII. WWI and Europe's delicate balance of power beforehand led to WWII. Of course, maybe if the U.S. didn't try to make Europe be all nice with the Treaty of Versailles, German economy would have collapsed a lot sooner, and a new government would have been formed that would have fixed the economic crisis there. Of course, this is merely speculation. Sorry Syntax, but when people misinterpret history and causes of such major events as the two World Wars, they tend to misinterpret the causes of crises in the world today. After all, History tends to repeat itself. I find it odd that as soon as I come back, I type up a long winded post about something that I've been studying in school the week before. |

Have you even looked at the German perspective? The treaty of Versailles is most definitely the reason Germany was in shambles in the early 30s because of MASSIVE debt encored by the treaty towards her. Also though this may be unrelated, there was a different treaty imposed on each of the "axis" powers post WWI now I say axis in quotes because there wasn't anything inherently evil about any side in that war. Germany was only able to pay her war debts due to huge loans from the U.S.A. this I expect you to know as it pertains to the US so its probably in your curriculum. The the depression struck and the US had to lick its own woulds leaving no money to loan Germany but the French still demanded their reparations leaving Germany with no money and practically worthless currency (1, 000, 000 deutsch marks for an apple worthless) so Hitler was able to run successfully by promising that with absolute control for 4 years he could fix the country...and amazingly he did, only problem was that he didn't relinquish this power, now he started encouraging jews to leave, and they did en masse off to Canada, but since this was back when our government were more retarded than they are now they sent them back. So yes in a sense we have skeletons in our closets too, anyway then Hitler started with the concentration camps and the rest is history. In conclusion: the Treaty was the biggest factor...along with the French, no one can deny that. |

The Treaty of Versailles may have started the chain of events that led to WWII, but that's not what I'm arguing. You simply said that the treaty caused WWII, which was incorrect. The treaty wasn't the only thing. In a sense, WWI is what caused WWII. So really, the Treaty of Versailles was merely a continuation of the chain of events. It was definitely a contributing factor, I'm just saying that it wasn't the biggest one. I think the biggest cause was the New York stock market crashing. However, that can be argued and speculated until we're blue in the face. Hell, historians have been doing that for the last 40-50 years. |

Yeah, I prefer to think that there isn't really a WWII, its just WWI continued and there was just a 20 year armistice for people to make infantry submachine guns, although WWII is still the bloodiest conflict in human history, now that's saying something. |
