“I assume you both know why you’re here.” A convenient glare obscures the science teacher’s dead olive gaze as he looks between the two students. Both exceptionally bright, but that did not spare them from his observations. Tensions between the two were quiet on the surface, yet still visible to anyone in the grade level. He had not punished them right away, but simply had told them to be aware of a punishment – the confusion on their faces was delightful. Now it was the time. Wise words from Shalamar and two lovely female co-workers forcefully assuring that nothing would happen to them, he had come up with the perfect punishment. He called their names right after a broad biology lesson, see him after class he said. Students snicker and whisper, the students wonder, indulging in the gossip as young ones do. Dr. Stein stares the two down, hands laced just under his chin and a smirk on his pallid face. “But if you do not know, I’ll refresh you. I’ve been watching you two since your little…exhibition on the first day of my class. As promised, a perfect punishment has been crafted.” A raise of his finger. “I commend you both on having a healthy competition, but I am not one to let such things get out of hand. You’re both young-” A look to the female, or maybe a sweeping glance at her assets. For a half-breed, she had a maturity about her. “And temperamental.” He finishes looking to the boy, bookish but cold. The science teacher stands from his desk and hands the students a pair of handouts. Listed was various page length, page type, the subject matter, whatever information the two would need. “Reginald, Karisuta-chan. I assume you’re familiar with the caverns on campus. You are to study them, listing what kinds of minerals are present, the anatomy of the cavern and whatever interesting tidbits you could find. You have the weekend, but most of all, it is a joint project.” He would stop to let the information sink in. Yes, it was true. They had to work together. |

Called after class, it was a disgrace! If his parents were to know of his perfect classroom decorum shattered thanks to some wolf-bred harlot! With barely a glance to the aforementioned girl, Reginald gathered his backpack and walked the aisle towards the head desk. Passing students snickered of course, so immature the lot of them, as they wondered and maybe hoped that he got what was coming to him. Why they would think such a way? Jealousy. Reginald was far better read, more intellectually sound then the rest of his class. So he readily expected harsher treatment from the rest of the idiots he had to call peers, jealousy conjures such horrid actions from people. Standing in front of Stein’s desk was akin to facing the judge’s stand, both students having to face their sentence. The words that would come from his mouth stunned, no shocked him! Work with the harlot on an assignment? “But, Mr. Stein.” He objected, keeping his tone as even as he could. “Speaking without disrespect, it’s a ludicrous punishment! In all fairness, if the harlot had just treated me with an ounce of respect, there would have been no need to punish us in the first place.” Even as he spoke, there was the sinking feeling in Reginald’s stomach. Even if Stein was not one to be swayed from his decision, the bespectacled boy had to try. Group assignments were never what they were; only a scant few students would actually shoulder the responsibility while others rode on that success. He detested them, almost as much as the wolf-girl’s attitude. |

Karisuta walked towards the teacher with a single-mindedness, the focus of a trained killer swirling in her unusual eyes. Her uniform hugged her gracious curves in a very comely manner, though her short, silvery-white hair was spiked carelessly. Surprisingly it didn't make her look messy, instead gave her a detached yet sophisticated look, like she had just stepped off the runway of a Paris show. All she was missing was about a foot of height and a pair of high heels. She paused in front of the desk, one fang poking over a lip after she casually chewed on it before it disappeared back within her mouth. She noticed Stein look her over, though she didn't make any motion to sneer or bare her fangs. He was a teacher, teachers commanded the class, therefore He was Alpha. That much she could understand and deal with. Her pale skin was stretched taunt over her muscles as she came to rest beside Reginald. She glanced over her shoulder before the teacher began, flashing a wicked grin at the rest of the class before focusing her attention on the teacher. a .... JOINT assignment? She could have the caverns mapped out in a day by herself. He was going to slow her down. Then... Reginald called her that word again. "Call me a Harlot... One. More. Time. and I'll make sure I'm the last thing you'll ever see." She growled lowly, merely a threat, she'd never kill a human .... well she might kill THIS human if he didn't start cleaning his act up.... but never would she NORMALLY kill a human. She straightened up and looked over at Stein after casting a low, disgusted look at the human beside her. "If you command it, I will work with the deplorable human. I hope he can learn some manners while we're in this makeshift pack." She answered respectfully, her tone that of a subordinate who clearly knows her place. "Is there anything specific we are to hunt in there? A particular cavern or mineral... or are we to sweep thoroughly and track all trails to the end?" She asked, flicking her ears forward so the many piercings would catch the light. |

"Call me a Harlot... One. More. Time. and I'll make sure I'm the last thing you'll ever see." Couldn't Stein SEE the barbaric behavior in this girl's eyes? Reginald only shot her a look of utter disdain before looking to Stein. He had to have seen it, right? The she goes on, complying just to make him look worse! AUGH this joint project was going to be far more excruciating than he could imagine. “Manners.” The boy says curtly. “I do have human etiquette, however wasteful to use it in such an environment.” That said, Reginald glanced through the requirements for the assignment in the handout. The project itself did not seem to be so difficult, standard length and type, use of the device through the excursion was encouraged. He himself knew little of the caverns other than some foolhardy students stumbled upon it some time ago. Wonderful, he had to hike at this time of the season for this assignment. |

The glare over the glasses of the mad science teacher obscured his point of attentiveness towards both of his students. Stein’s consideration towards his students was rarely a clear thing; why else would rumors of him experimenting on random students exist otherwise? He allows the both of them to speak, inwardly amused by how different their responses had been, before continuing. Olive eyes flickered first to the lovely Kari-chan, naturally. “Tracking is a good word for it Kari-chan. Recording what minerals exist in those caverns would prudent. If possible, bring samples. Further instructions are in the handout. Think of it as an adventure! Shalamar hopes that you two will learn a little something from the experience.” He shot a glance to Reginald, who seemed to give in to the terms of the punishment. Yes, he would want to give the boy a fair chance in this endeavor. “Reginald, as per your perceived etiquette, it would be wise to keep the name calling to a minimum.” A smirk crosses his face, one that would let the boy know full well that he could not always be an imposing presence to keep peace – it would be no fault of the school if Karisuta tore the boy’s throat out for being obstinate towards her. Not that anyone would mind, or so he observed. The door to the classroom opens and a pair of lovely early birds walked in, took one look at the pair standing before Stein’s desk and stepped right back out. His next student meeting were delights! “As I said, I expect the report Monday, good luck to you. Now if you don’t mind, I have another meeting.” Effectively shooing them off. |

“Manners. I do have human etiquette, however wasteful to use it in such an environment.” She twisted her ear when he spoke lowly, her lips tightening. She could barely stand this human and she decided to lay the law down right now, where Stein would see that she was being more then generous in her lack of CLAWING HIS EYES OUT. She turned on her heel and stared at him with her oh so discomforting eyes. "Since when do HUMAN manners allow someone who is supposed to be a gentleman call a lady a harlot? I lived nearby SEVERAL human towns and I learned from them. I have NEVER seen a human with less manners and respect then you, even the most unruly pups know that you treat your betters with respect, which you did not give even HALF of our teachers. At least I know my place and I don't try to assume I'm BETTER then everyone around me, which you so clearly do. SO, if you want to get through this with your body and brain intact... I suggest you USE the manners your mother gave you else you find that wolf manners are less forgiving." She folded her paper and slid it into the pocket on the side of her knapsack, that way she could get it easier later. "I'm going to assume your night vision is typical of a human so I'll wait for you at the caves, I have no need for anything other then a change of clothing. If you're not there in 30 minutes I'm starting with out you." she turned to Stein as he dismissed them and inclined her head, bowing very slightly. "You'll have your report on Monday morning sir." She answered and then walked from the room, bare feet thudding nearly silently on the floor. |

Thirty minutes later, Reginald would appear at the waterfall, a small backpack with all that he needed. The harlot classmate of his rambled on before leaving, but he had took notice of the tail end of her rant. He may have cared little what she said, but he wasn’t about to have the girl best him in tenacity over an assignment. Late afternoon sunlight fell upon the campus like liquid copper, forming a glow that did not exist anywhere else but the present. The cavern, according to the rumors that floated around the hallways, connected the school to the much larger underground of the Niagara Cave System. The approximate number of miles and caverns that exist in the system is largely unknown given it had been only a recent discovery to the State. Scores of academic and archaeological excursions had been made and only a small percentage of it has been explored, underlining the difficulty of the “assignment” ahead for two students. How did this remain undiscovered for so long was puzzling, and Reginald may have wondered once if the teachers at this strange school of his knew of its existence. He would have to ask the ones that found it...if he cared enough, which he was not too willing to delve deep into. That was mythos, but the project, however unfavorable the arrangement was, comes first. Damn Stein. For all Reginald’s admiration for the man’s teaching style, he could admit the man knew how deep to poke social wounds. The wolf girl, his partner for the time being, was already at the falls and surely she would scowl at him upon arrival. A glare in her direction before his eyes fell onto his Aeon, easily finding a mapping application for recording their excursion. “Let’s get this over-with.” The boy says sourly. It was definitely going to be a long weekend. |
