:YoshiWave: Hi there! Welcome to the forums. I'm pretty new around here too, but it's a really nice place. Sorry to hear about the virus you got, but I'm sure the creators of the program can help you out with getting a clean download, just ask Salanewt and Teawater. Perhaps something in the program was misread as a virus? I hope you'll be able to download it, I know it's a really nice tool with lots of potential.

Hello, and welcome to the infamous Yoshi Lighthouse. No need to bring torches because Yoshi will light the way.

Jul! I know about Jul, except, I usually go to TCRF instead. (The Cutting Room Floor.)

So you use Norton? (It turns out that I am not a Norton user.) I've heard about Norton anti-virus doing false positives with many programs. (Like with DeSmuME, as I've read in comments.) Perhaps it is doing false positives on Yoshi Magic, as well? In this case, I would recommend using other Anti-virus programs, but I'm not sure which is best.

Ofcourse, we could probably go to Norton themselves with this concern? From a quick look at their forums... I found something that might be of interest: https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/

Oh, by the way, what do you mean by "A safer way to download" ?

Hey there, and welcome to Yoshi's Lighthouse! MFGG? I think I recognize that place, but I haven't visited in ages.

All right, so your antivirus software said that Yoshi Magic was a virus? Some antivirus programs might sometimes give a false positive depending on how a program is coded, so programs like Norton or Avast might make a mistake (former Norton user here). I think I might be able to give you some more information, but may I ask two questions first?

1. While we brought up the possibility of false positives, I was wondering if you could tell us what antivirus software you have installed?

2. Other than the antivirus, the only other potential problem would be the site of download. Did you download Yoshi Magic from Yoshi's Lighthouse, or were you given an alternate download address?

And with that, I hope we can work with you soon too!

For a free anti-virus that is good, I recommend AVG free.

I second this, it seems to work pretty well. Hopefully it was just a false positive, especially if downloaded from this forum. Best of luck!

@Salanewt, he PMed me that he was using Norton.

He also tells me to make Yoshi Magic user-friendly to it. But unless I can figure out where the false positive(s) are coming from, it's almost an endless journey. (And without Norton, I can't even begin to start.)

Ah, then that makes sense. Norton used to give me a number of false positives, probably having more to do with code structure than other programs. A shame though, since I don't think Norton tells you what part of the code is identified as a virus. I would suggest posting some screenshots if you can figure it out though.

For alternatives, AVG is pretty good. I use Malwarebytes every once in a while as well, alternating between the two whenever I feel that it is necessary. However, since you probably paid for Norton, it might not be so easy to just switch to another antivirus until your current one expires.

Who are you calling an old man?

That is why we use a debugger to debug EXE programs (like Norton), so that we can find this type of information out. But I have VERY little knowledge on how to do all of that at this current time.
