Blue Mugge, your quote that only Jimmy was on contract is not true as we had both Jimmy and Danny Holmes on contract and in the latters case is an example that, not always, are only the best players on contract! My point about Jimmy was that not that he was rubbish which he obviously wasnt but that at the start of the season he came to HP with us fans having such high expectations of him and for one reason or another he never truly hit it off with the HP faithful despite his dozen or so goals but that surely we have cover in both Grice(who in Bakers words incidentally'will make us money')and Cope(who, if you are talking about trials has had trials at Celtic[not Stalybridge but the Glasgow version]but clearly not on a par with Crewe!)so clearly those two are not exactly rubbish replacements as im sure you will agree.Plus i may add we have Minor coming back, hopefully before the end of the season |

Craftman , PARAGRAPH. Is that when a member of the elite airborne division meets Steffi for a tennis double s game ?, please advise if only to make things less complicated for our Leek friends, you know how any words with more than one syllable causes them to appear dyslexic. |

BVW - Jimmy had EXTENDED trials for Crewe 1st team, Copey went to Celtic to trial for the youth set up as he and 2 others from the same junior club were recommended by a local scout who knew their manager. They trial thousands of people and if they like what they see, they ask them back for a second trial for further assessment - Copey only went once. You recently had Ben Chapman on loan from Nantwich. He had trials at both Man Utd & Man City, but I haven't noticed Leek Town bending over backwards to get his signature. There is a massive difference between having a trial for a club's youth set up and having a trial for a full-time senior contract. I aren't saying that Grice and Copey are bad players, not at all. But they haven't got Jimmy's ability. You may say that you need more than ability to succeed at the highest level ie attitude, discipline & commitment and that Jimmy is lacking in atleast one of those. I'd probably have to concede that argument. All I am saying is that ANY club at this level would benefit from having Jimmy McCarthy and that now that you have lost him, it doesn't mean you can't still admire his technical ability. Leek are a good club, who are presently playing at a level below where they should be. Can you not bring yourself to admit that Kidsgrove do very well to play and compete with the likes of Leek, considering we are a smaller club with less resources? Go on, just admit it ! |

I do admit it Blue Mugge,i do and non league football is all the better for it in the Stoke-on-Trent area over the past few seasons with our local derbies with us,Kidsgrove and Newcastle all of a similar standard nowadays. The fixture we look out for at the start of each season is Kidsgrove home and away and whoever gets promoted first we will undoubtedly miss those matches as you love beating us,probably even laughing at us as we leave the ground and we hate it,even on Wednesday as we would love bragging rights just once in a while, whichever competition!! Good luck for the rest of the season and i do mean that sincerely and hopefully you can put a spanner in the works of a few teams above us in the play-off spaces |

Stick your oar in ? Stunner ! Whose on whose forum ? If you read the previous threads you would have seen I gave the Leek fans credit for their support ! As for Valencia , couldn't go because of a Grove match where they beat the giants from leek - AGAIN. |

Diehard fan or one with a job ! You should try getting your arse out of the job centre to understand job first , pleasure second ! Where u get the phrase glory hunter is beyond me , over 1000 stoke matches , over 200 Grove matches , just like my football when I have the time , the money between work ( u should try it ). Can you honestly say you go each and every Leek match ? Or due you occasionally have to earn an income ! Your anti anyone who dares to watch both league and non league football is mystifying , as I'm sure you wouldn't want to stop Stoke fans I know going to HP to put funds in your coffers , or am I wrong. I'm sory if I've disappointed you by NOT giving up my job , my income and need to support my family to go to Spain to watch a reserve Stoke team , just to be seen in your eyes as a acceptable football fan. |

Credit to any fan who can find the time and money to go every match. Point simple , some of us have a family/children to consider ( maybe not like yourself ) and can't find the time to prioritise football as our number one pastime . Again I gave credit to your fans efforts the other night , but maybe you like the sound if your own voices. There are many posters on here who do not go every Grove game and use their time to work , family and live a life away from footy. We should all bow to you as u are better than us all as a football fan, but were u at wembley in 1990 ? Ps I need to work for 2 Caribbean cruises a year , fund a rolls and pay for a house on Wychwood Park Enjoy the Grove forum , we enjoy your presence |

I was indeed one of 19000 at Wembley in 1990 Craftman and loved every minute, regardless of the final score. |

Bird speaking here - just in my defence ! I had the pleasure (I think) of witnessing Jimmy McCarthys blink or you`ll miss it spate with Kidsgrove Athletic and all I can say is hes no better or no worse than most of the guys you see playing week in week out. He had a cracking run of a few matches of lightning strikes etc followed by a few not so good matches - mention of the subs bench saw him disappear into the wilderness before the shower room door was shut. Thats what this or any other league is made up of you either have the mercenarys who only play if they are guaranteed 1st team starting positions and good wonga every time against those who hack it out and are actually commited to the club . . . at this level I wonder whos shelf life is longest . . . there is only so many doors you can knock on again and again isn`t there . . . . May I just add a PS here for the likes of Tommy Urwin and others who truly truly desrve to be noticed and move on . . . please don`t think I am saying anything about yourself . . . a truly talented lad who has been recognised . . . just before I`m picked up on this |

So all the clubs who offered 4 figure sums for Jimmy as well as a nice wage packet, could have got just as good players for nil payment and far less wages, by picking any of the current squad at Kidsgrove ? If that's the case, the gates at Seddon Stadium will increase with all the Scouts attending. |

Remember the day like yesterday ! Around 8000 from the potteries , ironically many stoke and vale fans made the trip side by side to cheer on a local team like they do today ! A crowd of 19000 in the baking sun , how many of these supported just barrow and leek only ? Point is non league football needs all the fans and help they can get BVW . As for the result , I went to cheer on leek not barrow and the result did not reflect the performance. Still have the match day scarf and rosette , which I will keep as a memory of that cup run ( having been the Telford , stafford matches before ). |
