I notice that teams are starting to complain about fixture congestion. I just found an old KAFC programme from 1998, where Kidsgrove were faced with a bit of a backlog - this is what happened: April 1998: Wed 1st: Mossley (A) Won 3-1 Fri 3rd: Nantwich (H) Won 6-0 (League Cup Semi) Mon 6th: Glossop (A) Won 3-0 Wed 8th: St Helens (H) Won 7-2 Sat 11th: Salford City (H) Won 4-1 Mon 13th: Newcastle T (H) Won 3-2 (Snow  ) Sat 18th: Holker OB (A) Won 2-1 Sun 19th: Mossley (H) Won 4-3 Tue 21st: Vauxhall (A) Won 2-1 Sat 25th: Darwen (A) Won 5-0 Mon 27th: Vauxhall (N) Won 1-0 (League Cup Final, Gigg Lane) Thu 30th: Burscough (H) Drew 1-1 The 11 wins and a draw obviously earned Jimmy Wallace the Manager of the Month award. A few things strike me - firstly there's some fairly handy teams in there. Secondly, the travelling seems much more than we have in this league (travelling to Holker on Saturday and then having to play on Sunday was a nice touch!). Finally, Grove named a pratically unchanged team for every game. Makes you wonder what all the fuss is about. |

I think we played 67 games that season Al with a smaller squad than we have now. No doubt that were a few grumblings that season when faced with that backlog, but the greatest reward comes after battling through the greatest adversity. The reward for that team is that it will be forever remembered by those who were there as one of the best teams, if not the best, in Grove's history. |

Bloody amazing! 71 games in a season. Try asking Drogba or Adebayor to play 71 games. As I recall he was Mr Consistency at full back. Wonder what Craftman thinks of the FA decision to reject Huth's appeal against his red card. Good job that excuse of a referee Atkinson doesn't ref at our level. It would be six a side every week. |

Alan, although long before my Grove supporting days it was a great achievment and I would settle for a similar run of game results from now until the end of season, by my calculations that would get us very close to promotion or have I miscalculated ? Seriously though I do believe that given our fair share of luck the lads can still do K.A.F.C proud this season. Going back to the Sutton match, did I see from the match photographs (which were excellent by the way) Danny Bull on the subs bench or like some referees do I need my eyes testing?. This weeks game is looking a bit iffy at the moment, I suppose we could get one or two of our Leek friends over, with all the hot air that some of them spout we could stand them on four sides of the pitch which would keep the surface playable. |

Atkinson should not be officiating at any level of football I have watched the replays several times and cannot even see a yellow card offence,(and thats me a dyed in the wool Vale fan). Taking the conditions into consideration a good rollicking would have sufficed . Having said that, Huth is a" take no prisoners" sort of player and given that it was Mr no balls Atkinson refereeing the outcome of the tackle was inevitable, its not the first time for him to bottle it |

Your eyes do not deceive you, Honda, Danny Bull was an unused sub on Saturday. When I updated the website, I accidentally omitted his name from the team. By a strange coincidence, The Sentinel made exactly the same mistake. |

Can't criticise the ref as my first thought after the tackle was a straight red. On reflection in slow motion, yellow would suffice , but the committee was never going to overturn the officials original decision. Football is going soft at the highest level and certainly takes away the enjoyment of the 90's . Well done to Grove on their great run , pisser if they finish above Leek ! Who would have thought that ! |

Can't help agreeing with Craftman on the current attitudes in the prem - it is becoming a non contact sport. Surely the attraction of the English game is the speed, power and pace of the game complete with that competitive edge. I'm sure a lot of fans will turn away from the higher level of the game if the current trend continues - you only have to look at England games to see how much fans want to watch non competitive games. This season will be the first in many years in which I haven't been to Stoke at least once in a season. However, if I wanted to watch a non competitive game with plenty of play acting, rolling around and bleating to the ref, I just have to turn on WWF wrestling and save myself a packet in the meantime. |

The cost of premier league football is spiralling out of control to the point empty seats are becoming more common than ever , blackburn , Bolton , Wigan , Sunderland , qpr to name but a few . Add to this the theatrics of so many players ( Pulis would sack any stoke player tbh who acted like a certain visiting player last Saturday ) , diving , feigning injury to get fellow players sent off , you have to wonder how the once great British game has come to this ! I'm not really that pissed off with the Prem , but it's not far away ! Just to mention Alan's comment re number of matches Grove have played v Stokes 38 , would be interesting to see how many players each team have used , and distance travelled ( Stoke win on that one )

If Kidsgrove finish above Leek at the end of the season they will be in the play-offs and deserved it on merit as we all know that at the end of each season the league never lies. More importantly,Harry Redknapp for next England manager.Im looking forward to the Euros now

B.V.W I do believe that K.A.F.C. have been approached by the F.A with a view to appointing Wardy as England coach especially after he has just won M.O.M for the Evostik south div, if this is true there will be rioting and blood on the streets of Kidsgrove. Wardy,s odds with local bookies have tumbled to 3/1 with Houdini Harry @ evens. Being sensible about the league it may prove that Leek will have problems with a fixture backlog due to the recent weather which could be crucial. |

The key to that side of 1998 was the back four - Willow, Mumfy, Chet and Cokey. Each one playing at least 55 games each, it just shows the effect that a steady, consistent and regular back four can have on a team. The other thing is there are not too many out and out forwards on that list. Among the regulars (over 30 appearances), only Richie Batho was a recognised forward. Kiely and Dundas, despite their goals, in those days were attacking midfielders, Kiely often being pushed forward due to circumstance. |

And to bring this nicely back to the current day, in today's Sentinel there's an interview with Scott Dundas, who is refusing to moan about Norton's backlog, despite the fact they'll probably end up playing four times a week by the end of the season. Nice to see someone being positive, rather than looking for excuses - I sincerely hope they win their league. |
