Hopefully a decent crowd today for one of the local derbies and a good match.

It will be a relief to watch some football today, due to circumstances it is almost a month since I watched the Grove and I,ve been getting under the B.&.C,s feet for too long now,but my lifeline has been the banter and various posts on this site so keep it going.

Good news about the new signings Iv,e not seen either of them play but judging by the response on here it would appear that Wardy and Bucko have been pulling strings in the background so, onwards and upwards .

Reece, our esteemed Craftman has been strangely quiet over the last few days I am guessing that he is still in shock and lying down in a darkened room to recover from having to open his wallet to buy Christmas pressies, what do you think?.

See you all this afternoon. :)

Newcastle town has always been our biggest derby, great rivals from our NWCFL days & we have had some classic encounters in the past. the famous win in the snow with the orange ball was one of the best, a paul kiely free-kick sealing the come-back win.

Reece, Reece, Reece, will you never learn? I never mentioned the match to the B.&.C today it,s a bit of a risk, I,ve just thought it is my day to do the washing up, did you say that Craftman has a spare set of Marigolds or has he only the one pair ?.

Early doors club bar then and I will stand you a festive pint ?.

Three points today would finish the two Christmas days very much on a high,I rather suspect that the esteemed Craftman will be with us due to the fact he has been succumbing to wifey pressure in order to get there this afternoon, (creep)

Important point in the end after starting well and fading away, particularly with most teams around us picking points up too.

We definitely came out stronger, but needed more than the one goal when we were on top. If I were a Newcastle fan, I'd feel my team did enough to win the game. I was very impressed with them considering all the upheavel in the summer - obviously Malbon is a quality player, but there's more to them than just that. They remind me a little of where Sheffield were last season with a young, quick set of players who could develop into a very useful side.

As for us, it was good to see Shots back - thought he did very well for a first game, and nice to see Kinsey make a comeback after injury. We suddenly have some strikers again!

Grove started very well and when Walker scored early I thought it was our day, when Newcastle settled down they were very impressive and we did well to come out with a point, was good to see Shot's back and he looked very sharp, going to do a Wenger here, I didn't see Beeston's first booking so am not really sure whether the sending off was justified or not

surprised by leek towns result yesterday , no haddrell, but had six ex grove players in the line up , most of which started on the subs bench at the grove. I thought we started well and shaded the first half, but newcastle deserved a point and played some neat football. We didnt seem to battle well , mostly long balls over the top, nice to see shotton back, malbon looks a good player and stood out for me

Take it from me , although the Grove match was a tepid affair , part two of the day at the Britannia was sheer agony !

Newcastle look a tidy team indeed , but Grove have more than enough to get out of trouble .

Good to see Liam back where he belongs !

;)

The first booking was a little harsh from my point of view, it was very early on and the ref was a little nervous re a local derby hence an early card, but I think had the same tackle been made say after 20 minutes Beest would have probably got away with a rollicking.
When we scored early I thought we were in for 3 points but credit to Newcastle they gave as good as they got and came at us, Malbon is quite a handful and made even moreso by the workrate of their No 10.

Now Wardy has a problem because I think that Kins holds the ball up very well and brings other players into the game, but he is probably as not as prolific as Walks or Shotts but a nice conundrum to have.
Gez Mulholland started understandably nervous but settled pretty well considering he was playing for the first time for Grove, I personally was pleased to see Jonno on for the last 10 minutes or so he seemed to talk the defence into a more solid unit which he does very well.

My marks for the ref would be 6, could have been 7 but for his early booking of Beest, the line official on the dugout wing 6, one offside flag was totally wrong but they were not the worst we have had this season by a long way.

All in all a good match to watch now hopefuuly we can start to put together a few wins

No offence mate but ,

If we are made as welcome as our previous visits then I'd rather not bother !

I'm not going to contribute to the coffers of your chairman and your standard chartered club !

Flag ripping b*****ds !

The chairman of Leek made promises that day he failed to keep after said incident after our fans declined to have said flag ripper prosecuted.

That unfortunately for me and many , means I can't step foot in Harrison Park again !

I think there'll be a few more there than previously. It's up to individuals in the end, depending on how strongly they feel about the incident, or more specifically the chairman's actions afterwards.

I'm working on Monday, so get paid not to be there. Easy decision!

bruffy, yes it is a great shame that the old days when we took 80-100 with drums and flags as ended. Many fans would love to stand behind the goals with all our flags including our new one, but wont take the chance of criminal damage towards them and a group of leek fans set on attacking us,the chances are a few of us would get arrested ,so not worth the risk,a few will go ,probably with no football tops or scarfs , a great shame , maybe the answer is segregation or an apology from mr wain .

Craftman-- o,k o,k no need to gloat, just let everyone know how you managed to sweet talk her indoors into allowing you out twice in one day, I know Reece , Neil and myself would appreciate you divulging the secret. (creep)
I heard from an avid (dyed in the wool ) Stoke fan that the game was dire and it was only because he was still full of festive cheer that he did not commit Hari Kari,he said in fact that if either team had played on after full time on the pitch on their own they might have managed 1 goal if the ref had have awarded a penalty, and you complain that Grove v Newcastle was a tepid affair ???.
Never saw the (flag ripping ) game at Leek but reading some of the posts on here I am surprised that Leek get any visiting fans at their games or is it just a Grove v Leek thing ? it does seem a shame because all of the non-league teams need as much revenue as they can get, and 60 or so Grove fans is a fair bit of money.

If not going up to Leek, perhaps you may want to drop in on Alsager who are at home to Glossop - The Bullets could always do with a few more through the gate...... B)
