Might only be for a week but I think we should all savour being top of the league after the near collapse of the club less than 17 months ago. Comeback of the decade I'd say, and extremely proud to be part of it , as should we all be.

A club is nothing without its many elements - players, manager, assistants, directors, volunteers and last but not least, supporters. I think everyone involved in the club has done magnificently over the last 17 months or so, but the supporters have a big part to play. Its that hunger to please the supporters (and don't forget we are all supporters as well!) and convert the doubters that drives us all on. Yes, Peter Ward has had his critics, rightly or wrongly and thats the same for every manager, because we all have a different opinion on whats the best team, shape, formation, etc. But thats a good thing as football is a passionate game and nobody wants to change that. Even negative criticism can be a good thing because at least somebody is bothered and you then want to prove them wrong.

As one of the few who supported Wardy in the bleak days of last season when we lost 10 consecutive games, I will be floating on air this week and making the most of it, for who knows where we will be in a few weeks time! But I think we can cross relegation of the list for this season.

And don't forget, this isn't a team bought to win the league, but a team for the future. The Schwarzes, Tim Sanders, Ricky Bridge, Tom Moss, Sam Hall, Mitch Shenton, are still only 19/20. And Liam, Steve Intihar and Ade aren't much older. In fact I think only Matt Hadrell is over 30. So, roll on the good times!

There are no games in Division One south in the week so we will be top until at least next Saturday. Then next Saturday, Rushall are away at Lincoln and Sheffield are away at Goole and then nearly everyone is playing Tuesday 3rd Nov except us. So by the time we play away at Shepshed on 7 November we could be as low as fifth. But hey, lets SAVOUR THE MOMENT!

IT always comes to he who waits, thinking of wallpapering the bedroom with the copys of the league table, well done everyone, great day in the history of the club, you could see the passion of the players when dave scored the winner, Lets hope the crowds go up, maybe free admission with a firework night ticket, could work out long term, im sure the regulars would still pay on the day anyway and support the club, so nothing to lose , just the till ringing in the bar. Thought belper were solid team and wont be far away come the end of the season

I thought he was 38, not 28! Must have had a harder life than me. It seems more than 10 years ago that he last played for Grove. I'll make sure that I buy him a pint next home game to make up for it (he might have forgotten about it by then!).
