I don't know if it would take longer. If you have several frame by frame animators that can work in Flash (or other software) to do pencil test style animation, which seems to be the most common type of animator available, you could get an uncolored, full episode, watchable animation done relatively quickly. Each scene can be edited until the action is acceptable. Then overlaying the pencil test animation with Toon Boom approved models could be done relatively quickly. This would result in a consistent look and I don't mind doing the Toon Boom part until more Toon Boomers get onboard.

We should try to use the strengths of the animators we have. If we have frame by frame animators, that's what we should use. I can't animate without guides/references very well, but I can draw over a pencil test. I'd be the filter that generates the consistent look from all the different animators. It seems like this might work. I can probably work faster or at least as fast as a single frame by frame animator can crank out good pencil tests.

Oh, I see what you mean. Hm, sounds good. How would the pencil test go? Like the test animation Rose did?

Yeah, what Rose did is a good example. The important parts would be the action, body positions and timing with less emphasis on accurate lip syncing and other details. Detailed facial expressions would be good for scenes where that is important but only the extremes of each expression would be necessary, such as in some of the better storyboards.

Maybe we can compare scenes. We first do this one how we already planned, and then we pick another approved scene and try it the other way. Then we can see which one was done faster and easier. Is that okay?

Of course. I am sure there will be several missteps before we have a solid method worked out. I could be way off.
