Okay, now I love this site, but one thing rubs me the wrong way (No pun intended xD *shot*). The popularity system kind of annoys me. For a few reasons. 1. It makes people feel the need to impress and feel bad about not having a lot if you don't. 2. People can be jerks and deduct points for no reason. 3. It is unnecessary and kind of a distraction. Now I don't have a ton of points, and I honestly couldn't care less, but at the same time 15 isn't nearly little enough to complain about, in fact it is quite a bit if you ask me but I know a lot of people do. So I wanna know if I am the only one who this bugs, and if not, we will make a poll to decide what to do. (Cue me losing half my popularity xD) Please be honest. And if you don't like the idea, just be kind and respectful, I know this is a lot to ask and serves no real purpose. It doesn't hurt anyone. I realize it feels good to get a point, but it also sucks to lose one. But still tell me what you think.

It bugs me... but yet it doesn't...

Let me explain:

Yes it is a distraction from doing what we are supposed to do but its supposed to be a reward for something good we do and keeps people acting nice rather than telling everyone on the boards the "F--- Themselves".

I think there's a nice idea behind the popularity system, but it's often abused. In my opinion, it should be either pressed that people actually give points for good reasons, or the system should be disposed of.

I agree, either it's reinforced or taken out, but I think the original purpose of the point system was superb. I wouldn't take it out because it's annoying, like I said, I don't put much thought into it, so I just ignore it.

A poll would be fair. :3

Okay in that case, make it so. The poll will be open and the first one to get 8 votes wins. Sounds fair. If by the end of the week we don't have enough votes, I don't think we have enough to enforce it. So yeah, unless there are 8 votes for one category by the end of the week it will stay put.

Hm... well, it makes more active members of the community have recognition, but then it's almost a popularity contest (no pun intended).

I'd say yes, but it needs to be more reinforced.

I think we should keep the point system. I mean it is frustrating that someone would go ahead and deduct points because they have issues o.o

But it is nice to receive points for whatever reason you earned it for. Yes it is distracting when you see someone who has more points then you and then it might make you feel like you need to do more.

But remember IZFAS is still growing so don't let the Popularity points get you down~

Oh I personally don't care about popularity points. Honestly the reason I bring it up is because it seems to have been a distraction and new people can feel upset about it, but hey that's just me.

It had to reach 8 points, right? So I guess the popularity points stay. I think reinforcing them is a brilliant idea, but how to execute it fairly eludes me. :O

I think we can add our decision that the points system is to be taken serious from now on to the FAQ and maybe your brilliant survival guide, too.
We could also make a big announcement in the "announcements and news" section, so that our older members won't miss it.
After that's done, I think everybody who still abuses the points system (meaning adding or subtracting points without giving a reasonable explanation) should receive a warning PM by one of us, and a warning if it's done a second time by the same person.

I agree 100 percent. But I guess this means that it is staying. So I'll take down the poll I guess. Okay, good to hear everyone's opinion, I still don't really like it, but I can deal with it since you all seem to enjoy it.

Eh. I vote it should go, even if it doesn't matter anymore, I and many other admins have told and told a big percentage of the forum to put a reason behind 1+ing or 1-ing, and that hasn't taken effect, and nor has the occasional spammer writing complete bulk whilst minusing somebodys popularity.

I personally couldn't care ether way if it stayed or went. I think it was a kinda gesture towards people as a way to just thank someone or just give them a pat on the back, even if the drawbacks are that people misuse them by putting no reason into pumping someones popularity or a troll or spammer decreasing peoples popularity. Also I found that a newcomer who has a popularity of zero could feel very inferior to someone who has a very high popularity. That's just my opinion, but on ways to improve the system I think we should make it so that you HAVE to give a reason or else your own popularity gets decreased and the person they want to give popularity to or subtract it too doesn't go through. I hope I didn't over explain that, I have a tendency to do that.

Hmm, good idea.... Still it doesn't hurt anything, so maybe we should just forget it, and those who don't like it just continue to ignore it. Meh, whatever. Though it seems like the admins are the ones who aren't crazy about the popularity system. I dunno.
