Resurrection Rumors; Will Invader Zim come back?

We saw the signs. We saw the reruns. We saw the DVD sale. What does it all mean?

Well, I've heard rumors that this summer, Nick is going to finish the unfinished Invader Zim episodes from the audio that was recorded. I've merely heard rumors, but as we all know, this is very likely.

Question is, is this all true?

Well, I remember rumors of it coming back in 2008, but for no reason. Just rumors. However, over time, Nick's productivity has ground to a halt, and its writing has gotten bland. Maybe they want to bring it back now to boost feedback.

That, or this could all be a hoax in honor of the show's 10-year anniversary. Who knows?

I haven't heard of any rumors, but I don't really now, as much as we'd all like to see it, It was probably just some rumor or something. But I certainly hope you are right.

I had read it was only going to be re-runs, and that it had nothing to do with new episodes. If it would be--even if the audio, the concept art, and the storyboards are already done--I still hope it's just a rumor. The original director said he wasn't going to work with it ever again, apparently they never tell Jhonen nothing about re-release the DVD's or reruns on Nicktoons, and they'll probably hire another team.

I think it's just another anniversary thing, and they'll release new stuff for us to gorge on ourselves while Viacom makes more money. I really believe this whole Zim re-birth that's happening it's like Jhonen wrote at the beginning of March: Zim is the McRib's twin seperated at birth. It's only a fad where they keep it in a vault, release it every few years, and then seal it again--to keep it fresh.

MindSpill Zim Trivia #1

People come up with Zim rumors all the time, so I'll be the skeptic one here.

@Cosmo: My thoughts exactly. I was just stating the rumor, but not my opinion. In my opinion, different team means different show

However, I heard they're only making the unfinished episodes, not making brand new ones straight from the screwed minds of Nick's writing board. If it does come back, we can still create our stuff, and they can finish off what would be otherwise undone.

That's what Steve Ressel said. He said it'd be a new-ZIM.

I don't really care if they use the original audio and everything. It wouldn't feel right with all of the new, current zombie-like Nick workers they have now. Jhonen said in one of his Mindspill ZIM-fact posts about focus groups that he was surrounded by bussinessmen who didn't see animation as an artform. And those are the kind of people currently running Nick. What I mean is...all the cartoons feel sort of hollow now.

I'm probably getting too into my cartoons. But what can I say?

I dunno...resurrecting ZIM would really piss me off. Just leave it alone, Nick. I don't want any of you greedy corporate zombies touching my favorite show. It was what it was. And you guys can't re-create it.

HOWEVER, reruns would be awsome. I'd watch them everyday (I dunno about you guys, but I watched all seven hours of that marathon that was on a few weeks ago). I'd rather see reruns.

Though, despite my feeling at resurrection, I'd still be sort of pumped. Like TCPM said, I practically worship this show, and I'd probably watch the new episodes with aniticipation. Despite everything I said, I gotta be honest, the ZIM-whore within me would totally watch the new episodes. Maybe with a mixture of regret and excitement, but I wouldn't miss them for the world.

It was 9 hours, but who's counting? *imhappyplz*

I agree with what Pocky said, new cartoons are empty, and there's nothing amazing about them--yet, we would still be engulfed with the familiar faces of a once good show, and find ourselves watching it again. (I'm quoting an essay I wrote about the new Star Wars cartoon, that's why it's poetic, lol)

But yeah, I'd watch re-runs, especially Season 2 since those are my favs. That's the only thing I'll do, watch the cartoons. (Still boycotting Viacom)

I think that if anyone that isn't Jhonen Vasquez even touches the idea of bringing it back they will feel the wrath of ZIM. I can tell you that it would be the best nick show on right now... Not saying much but, people would be ecstatic. By the way I am reffering to anyone on Nick touches it. I mean technically by the other logic, I would be wanting us to feel the wrath of Zim. I also have to ask, do we have nick's permission to make IZ stuff? Because they do own the show, so isn't that an issue?

We already made a topic about that. Check: Viacom is pissed We agreed that as long as we continued referring that we didn't own the character and it was fanmade, we'd be okay.

I'm pretty sure if Zim comes back, he'll have a wider audience. (The teenagers that saw the show, the kids who grew up with it/were scared of it but now like it, and the new fans. Either way, I think Dee once said that the reason Zim is such a Pop Culture phenomenon is that it was canceled.

...touche XD

Anyway, ZIM would definetly have an inflated audience. The online fanbase has sort of fueled it's popularity and advertised the show the way Nick never did when it first premiered.

I pretty much doubt it, I've heard so many damned rumors........ One of the first ones I recall hearing is that Zim was picked up by FOX..... A lesson I learned from this......... Tv.com is bull!

I agree with the people saying the new eps produced by the system probably wouldn't be good, but I'd still watch 'em... for completion and stuff. But I also think it was only a rumour and will remain a rumour. We haffta get working on the real deal allready!

So what, take these rumors as incentives to beat them to the finish line?
I know everyone here (myself included) would watch the episodes if they were made, just to see what a team with an actual budget could possible at the very least.
The thing is - and this is sort of off topic - for a great deal of the remaining Zim scripts, I feel like the writing is subpar compared to the splendor of the earlier episodes. It's like they new the end was near and were just trying to squeeze any last lingering ideas out of the production staff, regardless of whether they thought they'd actually be made.
(That said - the Trial, had it been made, would probably have been one of my favorite episodes!)
And while we're dealing with rumors, TCPM told me that they'd heard somewhere that Nubs of Doom was, for all intents and purposes, finished, and that had Zim been given a little more network time before it was cancelled, it would have been aired.
I have no idea if this is true - can anyone else verify this or is it just another ghost of a rumor? Is there some completed episode that was denied from the DVDs floating around somewhere?

I heard somewhere that some episodes that the U.S. wasn't exposed to were aired overseas.

Hm, could be possible, but I doubt it. If not, a website would confirm it, and someone would've uploaded the episodes online.

But I DO think Nubs of Doom was almost finished, I can't remember where I read that it said they were ready to finish editing and send it to Korea when Nick pulled the plug. I think it was even Jhonen who said it in mindspill, but I don't remember. Either way, I'd like to think so.
