Crap this sucks. Isn't there a loophole?

A fair use act or something like that?

I hate this corporate nightmare, the big guys win the little guys lose. Some American Dream we're living.

COULD they potentially go after us? *fear*
Theres no guarantee we will be affected by this.

Viacom is only going after YouTube, have you ever heard of them going up against any other site? No.....

I know their games, they want to own YouTube, they want to own everything! And if they don't get their way, they act like a 7 year old and bitch and whine and moan about until they get their way! Their pathetic, its like what Westboro Baptist Church does, except instead of lawsuits they picket over things their not going to win over, not to mention things that no one can control like homosexuality........

That's what I was worried about, but technically, we're just social networking and promoting Viacom, but they don't really see it. also, I'm trying to look into the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, but I never understand the legal mumbo-jumbo. @_@

I think as long as we steer clear from Youtube for a while, we'll be okay. We should just stick with Newgrounds and DA at least for the pilot.

Not if we're doing our own stuff
If they went after us they'd be going after anybody who ever did any fanart of any of their things. SpongeBob, Dora, Zim, etc. We're not making any money and we're not re-making the eps that have already been aired.

I know what you're all saying. I know those big-wigs rule the world with their money and that they're the devil incarnate. However there IS artistic freedom.

Hell, even if they did sue me, personally, for drawing IZ fanart, I'd still do it.

I'd have to agree with you, thinking about what you said, Blitz, if we DO get sued, imagine ALL the fanartists who will back us up, I don't think they stand a chance, that's more people than youtube. It's inspiring. 8'D

Yeah, sure. An army of fanartists against a HUGE corporation. Yup, I'm sure we'll win! [/sarcasm]

Sorry for the sarcasm, Cosmo, I'm just sooo pissed at this! *screams in pillow then eats it*

It's not about the fanartists, it's the number of people, and the support from ALL the art websites. I know it sounds stupid, but the attitude that we have to cower to major corporations has to stop, and that goes to all of them. Like I said, it's because of us that they are rich.

I will say this...

I am NOT a person who lives in fear, nor will I ever. For a show that has been dead for several years and will NEVER have a true comeback, we have every right as fans to make our fan created material. We are not claiming to own IZ, it's characters, or anything else accompanied with it... and we're doing it in the privacy (currently) of our forum. Once we get further into production... sure we'll have been distributed amongst art groups, animation portals, and what not... but it will all be in the name of tributing to our fandom.

Just because some big company likes to throw it's weight around doesn't mean any of us should be scared to be here. In any case I would take full responsibility for any troubles that arise and none of you would get any blame-- I'd ensure this I promise.

Viacom, already, looks like a huge flailing idiot in the eyes of everyone. YouTube did what was right and took down any copyright infringements... but get this....

SMART companies like 4Kids and Warner have ALLOWED YouTube distribution as long as credit was given. Usually they snap on a little icon to people's pages that use their content saying (Content provided by So and So). How hard is it to link to the original creators from a clip? Not hard at all!

It's a scare tactic if any, and YouTube, it's associates, and it's users ALL disagree with how Viacom is taking this.

Mike Mozart and tons of others are rallying support so don't worry too much everyone.

WB isn't a saint all the time, they actually took down a live-action Harry Potter fan series, and I think it was Nat who showed it to me. :XD: Plus, they took down some Animaniacs clips. But I don't think they're idiot enough to sue.

You know, Skoo, you spoke the truth almost entirely, and I agree with you in almost everything. What I didn't agree was that if we DO get into legal issues, I won't sit and pray hoping you'll do fine by yourself. I'm sure a lot of members will agree with me, that if the unspeakable happens, we'll all be there, because this is a group project, and we are all now aware of what might happen (and I haven't seen anyone quit so far). >: D

'I mean, REALLY!' Is really the only phrase that goes with what Viacom are doing to YT right now!

YT and the population with all those messages, as time goes by, I'm more proud of Jhonen always making fun of them in the show.

@Nat: I laughed, but I don't know how many times I facepalmed as well. :XD: Mike Mozart's funny, so I guess it's okay, but we'll need to pay extra attention and see what happens with the lawsuit. = )
