What the hell?Thats just stupid. I mean,BECAUSE OF US,They are rich and living in luxury, and they get mad for us showing our support for them? THEY SHOULD GO TO HELL. I had actually uploaded some Zim fan-videos yesterday (sure they were stupid and ridiculous) but I meant it because I love IZ so much, and now they are just going over the top for it. Don't Youtube pay the content creators anyway or something?Or pay taxes for that sorta thing? (Im not sure, but it seems pretty possible) But anyway,I want to go beat them with my amazing vocabulary and use of balanced arguments (YAY FOR ENGLISH!) XD But yeh,As Dib would say,This is just stupid. |

it is stupid, but that's ruling the world for you. :\ This is even stupider, it's old information of an old lawsuit: "Copyright complaints against YouTube In February 2007, Viacom sent upwards of 100,000 DMCA takedown notices to the video-sharing site YouTube, alleging large-scale copyright infringement. Of the 100,000, approximately 60–70 non-infringing videos were erroneously removed under the auspices of copyright infringement. On March 13, 2007, Viacom filed a US$1 billion lawsuit against Google and YouTube alleging massive copyright infringement, alleging that users frequently uploaded copyrighted material to YouTube—enough to cause a hit in revenue for Viacom and a gain in advertisement revenue for YouTube. The complaint contends that almost 160,000 unauthorized clips of Viacom’s programming have been available on YouTube and that these clips had collectively been viewed more than 1.5 billion times. Judgment In July 2008, Viacom won a court ruling requiring YouTube to hand over data detailing the viewing habits of every user who has watched videos on the site. The move led to concerns that the viewing habits of individual users could be identified through a combination of their IP addresses and login names. The decision was criticized by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which called the court ruling "a set-back to privacy rights". U.S. District Court Judge Louis Stanton dismissed the privacy concerns as "speculative", and ordered YouTube to hand over documents totalling around 12 terabytes of data. Judge Stanton rejected Viacom's request for YouTube to hand over the source code of its search engine system, saying that there was no evidence that YouTube treated videos infringing copyright differently. On July 14, 2008, Google and Viacom agreed in compromise to protect YouTube users' personal data in the $1 billion (£497 million) copyright lawsuit. Google agreed it will make user information and internet protocol addresses from its YouTube subsidiary anonymous before handing over the data to Viacom. The privacy deal also applied to other litigants including the FA Premier League, the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization and the Scottish Premier League. The deal however did not extend the anonymity to employees, since Viacom would prove that Google staff are aware of uploading of illegal material to the site. The parties therefore will further meet on the matter lest the data be made available to the court. In March 2010, YouTube alleged that Viacom had hired advertising agencies to upload Viacom content to YouTube as a promotional tool, and that some of these videos were included on the list of infringing videos in the lawsuit. Both sides in the lawsuit are trying to persuade Judge Louis Stanton to issue a summary judgment." So apparently, they DID this before, AND hold information on the users who uploaded videos. They KNOW about their lives, and IP Addresses, THIS is serious, THAT is against the law! You can't share personal information, yet they did. This joke HAS to stop. |

I remember the 2008 one! I was angry beyond belief! It is a violation of our privacy! What they are doing is 100% against the law and yet the judge allowed them to do it! Aren't the judges tired of hearing their moaning about it? What they need to do is find a life for themselves! http://www.bladez636.deviantart.com/journal/31123166/ I'm spreading the word! Hopefull people will help the cause of showing Viacom were tired of their fucking games! |

The judges get tired of it? Pfft, doubt it, I have a million and one examples to prove other wise. (Just throw in one, the rest are kind of political: when parents of children kept suing Michael Jackson) I'll read the journal right now. |

Now waitaminutewaitaminutewaitaminute. I know Viacom (along w/other super corporations *walmart*) should have each person ****** ** ***** ****** ***** *** **** **** ***** **** ** ******. I know they're tageting those who uploaded clips, but they can't sue us. Y'know why? Beacuse ours are hand made. They aren't clips of episodes we took and made an AMV of, but our own works, our own talents. Our own voice actors and animators. If they try to sue, what would it be that we would be doing wrong? What we are doing is basically our freedom of speech: we communicate through our art. We are protected by the 1st ammendment (which I know is ignored in the supreme court but still). It would basically be the same as suing other musicians for playing the same instruments as copyrighted artists. also its times like this that makes me glad to be a pirate. They don't make any money and I get free music and episodes.

But we don't own Invader Zim, THAT'S the problem. Invader Zim is owned by Viacom, NOT Jhonen Vasquez, so they CAN sue us. |

Wait, they are getting given our private details?IF SO THAT IS A BIGGER OFFENCE THAN THIS...I think. But now,I just feel dead weird,as if I'm being stalked or something. And another thing is,we aren't making ANY profit out of the videos we make, except maybe some great comments from random people, but that doesn't seem to be much in the corporate world. Even If we properly copyright, and state that we don't claim any of that and all that random stuff they force us to write, they still don't care. (I still think Jhonen should own most of the rights for IZ,besides, its HIS creation anyway. Why doesn't the world work like that?) |

*I'm posting a video in a few hours, my webcam isn't working. @Pistachio: You can call you whatever you want, but I'm going to tell you the truth here: countries like the United States aren't owned by the people or the government, they're owned by big businesses like Ford and Viacom, who keep the money flowing. These people can do whatever they want, and these people can easily steal copyrights...because they CAN. Even if we're non-profit, it's their characters and they can do whatever they want. @Wolfina: I agree, but that won't work, they emerged from hell anyway, lol. |

I doubt we're breaking any copyright laws by animating everything ourselves. I think the only thing they can get us on is the audio from previously recorded episodes, but if that's the case, we can still re-record them. As long as we don't steal their original material, and do everything ourselves, we'll be fine. Don't panic if they do come after us, because we can always prove them wrong. If you're really worried about this, just get studied up on all the legal stuff, and we can stop ourselves if we're doing something wrong. EDIT: Sorry, didn't read the WHOLE thread first.
No, we don't own Invader Zim, but we do own the Invader Zim FAN ANIMATED SERIES. Them coming after us for not using any of the material from the show would be too much of a chore for Viacom. Edited by Toto the Obsessor, Mar 26 2010, 09:32 PM.

HOPE it works because most of the 10,000 videos they took down HAD the copyright mark. @Toto: Yes, yes I know what you mean, but you have to be aware that even if it's a fanimation, we do not own Zim. I'm not saying we should drop everything and cower, but not to post any fan series on Youtube until this mess settles. |
