My first thought after reading this thread.... I'm -SO- glad I grew up with body image issues and lacking self-confidence. Keeps me in check. Now I'm fine with how I dress and act around men, I don't feel like I need to whore myself up in order to feel attractive and wanted.

To be honest, I don't think I would even want to talk to any sort of guy who wanted to "wham-bam-thank-you-Mam" me from how I dressed and assumed I'm wanting that sort of attention.

--

Although, to clarify, I do love dressing up when I go out. A bit of flush of colour on the face and hair neatly brushed and cleaned. It's nice to look nice. I'm not against that at all. Just when it's done for certain attention that I don't feel comfortable with receiving. Thus, you will never see me in a tight revealing low cut dress, or the horrid "legging tights" that leave absolutely nothing to the imagination.

Sure guys are. We dress to impress men. Therefore what you find impressive is what we wear, hence the crap we wear :)

sounds logical to me :P

On a serious note though, I agree with Chris. You're looking at Ke$ha who is the dregs of society. There are plenty of classy women still out there.

Sounds like no-one forced your hand to dress how you do, you made that decision all by yourself.

Cate Blanchett is a pretty classy lady though.
Except in that horrid Indiana Jones Movie *shudder*

Reece, I'm just winding you up :P

But personally, yes I wear what I think other people would like, to fit in with society. Nobody is forcing me to do it, I choose to wear what I think others would be "impressed" by. Well, sometimes. Most of the times I just take out whatevers clean... but even then I've bought those clothes because I like them and think others might like them too. Most of this is on a subconcious level though; I not constantly thinking about it.

meh, I'm past caring what men think. I can't be bothered with makeup most of the time, forget to shave/wax, wear my band shirts out of the house, burp with impunity, and if a guy still thinks I'm attractive after all of that, then he's probably worth keeping.

I kinda meant more generally, just using myself as an example. I wasn't even being serious about blaming men in the first place.

I derive a persons worth from their actions, deeds, feats.

For social events where people are mostly unfamiliar however I will admit I am prone to judging by appearance initially. I just find it quite accurate, certain types of people dress in certain ways.

This only works for the distinction between "attention whore" and "possible repressed attention whore"
