Got any favourites from this year? I love following this competition every year, I think it's great. It's my way to immerse myself briefly in the wonders of art, and take a look at some of the really creative ways artists can express themselves. Link to Slideshow

This one is my favourite. It is like the man is looking at me from a world beyond this one. Just passing me by, deep within his own contemplative thoughts.

And this one I find most interesting:

And this one most beautiful. It is entitled My Jack, by Jenny Sages. I imagine the painter the wife of this man, seeing him bathed in morning light, as she does every morning. ^__^

I like the lead up to the Archibald. If I remember right, last year's was really full of 'edgy' stuff for some reason.

Not very good, i mean come on,

First one has no real consistancy to it, nyerking worst portrait i've seen, has little scrapes at the end of it, couldnt even use the same colours for the guy and switched from light red/white dark red, Pathetic. Dont just wing it

Second one
Hair looks like a bunch of nyerk on a guys head, I would be really annoyed if someone painted me with a bunch of poo as my hair.

Third
Naked Old man.
Anyone who likes this is a pervert.

I have no real interest/appreciation for this sort of thing.

But from a random joe blows perspective who doesnt care about art, I like the first one the best.

Firstly, read this article before you make silly generalisations about Abstract Art.
Secondly, this art isn't really abstract, it's basically all representational, pictures of people so I'm confused as to why you would even say that.

I'm not sure how I feel about the first one, I think I know who that person is but I can't put my finger on it. I'd like to know what the artist painted it with, as you look down the painting it almost seems like it's peeling like cracked paint on an old wall, kinda fits in with the fact that he's an old man too.
I really like the second one. When I first saw it I thought it was a clay sculpture and I think that's what I like most about it. I also really like the dull colour scheme, the guy looks really stoic and emotionless and the colours really help reflect that.
The third one is cool cause it seems she's painted it like a photo, his face is in perfect focus and the surroundings are more blurry, I'm not sure if this was her intention but I do like it. She really detailed the face as well, which is nice to see, artists sometimes skip those finer details (depending on their style) and it's nice to see it when there's this much attention.

I love art that is terrible but respected for reasons I can't understand. It gives me hope.
But none of those paintings are abstract or out there at all really. They're all just really good.

That is the dumbest thing i have ever read. It just makes you look retarded by agreeing to it.

I'm actually glad i can apreciate art in most of its forms.

#1 and #3 from jens are probably the least abstract out of them all (apart from the self portraits), all the abstracts are all too try hardish. instead of being a random concept which expresses themselves, its all OMG INNER MEANINGS AND READING BETWEEN THE LINES...nyerking go back to writing english essays
