Hi

Those that attended the volunteers meeting at the weekend will already be aware that we discussed the possibility of having a presence at the Dilwyn Show this year (http://dilwyn.com/index.php/show). It is being held on Monday 7th May.

I have spoken to the organisers and they have agreed that we can have a space to put up a table & gazebo to promote the rescue and generate local support. I have requested that we are located near to the dog show.

In this regard, there's quite a lot that needs to be organised in a short space of time!

1) Volunteers to 'man' the stand
2) Donation of tombola prizes - bottles, chocolates etc (new items only please)
3) Loan of gazebo and table/chairs
4) Posters and promotional leaflets etc
5) Petition

Can anyone think of anything else?

Thanks
Andrea

I'll do my best to get you a couple of tombola prizes and take them down to the shop before the show. We are hoping to come for the day so if we do and you need some help we will step in for an hour or so :D

I'll be there for the day and will put together a few tombola prizes.
Will get some information sheets done about the rescue, that may also put some locals minds at rest who don't realise what we do.

That's great, we really need a gazebo, table and a few chairs - can anyone help?

So that we can make sure we have enough people, I've put together some suggested two hour slots for manning the stand, please could you let me know if you can help and if so, what time please:

9.00 am - set up
I can help set up if someone can come with me and can probably do the first hour at the show.

10.00 - 12.00
12.00 - 2.00
2.00 - 4.30

then followed by packing everything up.

Need lots of tombola prizes too please everyone!

Well done Andrea for getting this organised :-)

I can do manning from 10:00 to 14:00 and longer if needed

Very happy to donate tombola prizes. Would homemade cakes/biscuits be acceptable (will try not to eat them myself!)?

Hope the sun shines!

I'm not 100% sure about alcohol but I'm guessing it would be ok (anyone?). If a child wins we could always swap it for another more suitable prize? I think for a tombola we just need lots of small prizes like chocolate bars, sweets, bottles of soft drink, books, pen/pencil sets etc. I've never run a tombola before so it may be a bit hit and miss ))=))

With regard to cakes, we could have a cake stall to sell them if we get enough - what do you think?

Brigit, would you be able to do some posters and perhaps we should put a poster in the shop window to say we are going to be at Dilwyn and to come and support us.

A friend of mine has a company that produce exhibition tables that have graphics printed across the front, I'm currently trying to persuade him that he would like to donate one to HWAR in return for him putting something across the bottom of it like 'table banner supplied by xxx'. I'll let you know how far I get with this but I think he'll probably be happy to do it as it's for a good cause!

Any other ideas would be great!

Andrea

I had a go on a tombola last year and they had an adult one and a childs one, kids one had sweets and small toys and the adults had wine, beer small nick nacks etc. Also i think you can have alcohol on there as you are not actually selling it :D

A few people have offered to make cakes/scones so suggest we also run a cake stall - can anyone else commit to baking (buying in my case) some cakes for us to sell please? We would need them on the Sunday or if you were coming along to Dilwyn perhaps you could bring them with you on the day.

Also, still no offer of a gazebo - can anyone lend us one please. It would have to have sides on it just in case the weather is like it is at the moment!

Thanks

I just emailed you lol
I now see that you don't need a table.. but if you would like it, then I can bring it up this Monday? (I would like it back though)
I will find out tomorrow if the Gazeebo has sides (I didn't ask)
Do the eggs that you are selling need to be stamped? (with health and safety?) If not, I can bring some... all within a week of being laid?
I have a small box of smellies, which was given to me - and I do not know why because it is an old womans smelly box haha!
I might also have a new Rolsen drill bit set, because I did a Charity Night a while ago - and I am sure it wasn't collected from the raffle.. again, will look tomorrow.

but... I am afraid NOBODY gets chocolate out of me :-D (it doesn't last long enough to leave my house!!!!)

Hi! My friend who is going to bake some cakes has asked if you would prefer a large cake or some cupcakes? (Her cupcakes are immense!)
and she has also written this to me:- "Hey, been sorting stuff out; I have some food for HWAR, a tin of hills science ID food (vets stuff, real expensive but would rather they had it than some scrote off items for sale!) And some Wagg Puppy food, Darcy doesn't like it. Xx"

That would be great Keli thanks.
I have a couple of signed copies of 'Chandi the rescue dog that stole a nations heart', very kindly donated by her owner and author Tina Humphreys. We can raffle off one of the copies. Also have the Canine Friends draw tickets (top prize £100), we receive all the proceeds from the tickets.
I will order some tombola prizes from e bay. We have 2 PAH vouchers that were donated by our prize winners in the photo competition.

Just out of interest - where is Dilwyn?

I just had a go at making some scones, to see how they would turn out ..... hmm, I think maybe the oven was too hot as they are rather dark on the outside. I have tested a couple and the biggest one wasn't fully cooked in the middle! Don't think I had better offer to make any for the show after that!! xx2xx ))=))

(I have made them before and they came out ok, so I don't know why they didn't today)

Thanks Purple Peril :o3

I don't know Leominster at all, so I don't know the Monkland Road, but now I know Dilwyn is near Leominster I can at least have a look at the map book on the right page!

Thanks for that link Bridget. It was very nice to meet you too!

I have my in laws coming down next weekend (MIL birthday weekend), so my movements will be geared around them, and therefore necessarily weather dependent amongst other things (eg FIL can't/won't venture far from a toilet as his waterworks are not at their best ). That's why I haven't committed myself to anything....but you never know! :o3

Hi

I don't know whether you would ever have use for a gazebo in the future at your dog show or any other events but there is one on half price offer at Argos at the moment which is £29.99 for the gazebo and the sides? Just a thought, I didn't know whether there would be any funds available or whether we could raise the money to buy one?

Thanks

I have a round white plastic garden table and four chairs out the back which I was going to throw out. Just need a wash. If you can use them you are welcome to have them, but somebody will have to collect them?
Is there anybody coming over from Hereford who could pick them up. Am home all this week.

Looking forward to seeing you and Chomp. Thanks for the offer of table and chairs. As we have to set up at 8 I will put the ones from the kennels into the back of my truck so we have all of the 'hardware' together first thing. I am bringing a trestle table and a couple of benches too. Yours will come in very handy at Brockhampton.

See you on Monday.

Just checked the Dilwyn Show website (http://www.dilwyn.com

Main Show is still going ahead at the moment - Horse Show is cancelled.
Keep an eye on this site for updates on the show

Let's hope they don't cancel, the weather unfortunately at the moment is now showing showers on/off all day

Just checked the website and the show has been completely cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

Does anybody know of another event we could attend? So much work has gone into preparing for Monday it would be a great shame if nothing happened. Think of all of those cakes baked
waiting to be eaten.

There is a horse show here in Eyton (Kingsland Show) so that is a possibility.

We need to put our heads together and come up with a plan.

Oh no! 3..)- that is so disappointing for everyone involved - so much hard work, effort & dedication has gone into the organisation of it all on behalf of HWAR xx2xx & everyone involved in other areas of the show too of course, but being totally biased I'm so sad for us!! I heard on the radio this morning that it's Hereford Fair next week from the 8th-10th - they said it was bigger and better than ever this year & had a real family feel to it, like the old fairs used to, any good?

Good luck with finding another event but I will buy one of your Lemon Drizzle cakes Brigit if they are not sold elsewhere - it can be left at the kennel for me & I will collect next Friday 11th (if you think it will keep ok 'til then). Better hide it well though!!! =D xx Beth
