Poplar: When the buds are eaten they are valuable in coughs resulting from colds. They "must be soaked in alcohol to dissolve the resin before they can be used as a tea." Simmered in olive oil (with beeswax added to make it less viscous) these make an excellent salve or ointment that stings an open wound but is wonderfully clearing to the sinuses and heats the skin.
