I'm not overly familiar with the 'Purple People' but am aware that they have their own self sufficient, Monastic community & I buy my oils from them, they have a beautiful variety of essential good quality oils, I recently read this article about Oregano;

Wild Mediterranean Organic Oregano Oil is grown in the mountainous regions of Turkey. Naturally rich in 'carvacrols, flavonoids, & terpenes,' it carries tremendous strength. Excellent for external & internal use!
Organic Oil of Oregano is a completely natural substance derived from wild Oreganum Vulgare species. The plant grows in remote western mountainous regions of TURKEY, free of pollution. Only the leaves of the flowering plant are used. They are picked precisely when the plant is highest in essential oil. Being wild, it is grown chemical-free and the oil is extracted via a completely natural process - no chemicals or solvents are used. The oil is the source of virtually all of the plant's active ingredients.

Supplement measures:
Oil of Oregano can be used as a natural herbal supplement offering a variety of remedies. It is rich in a long list of minerals that includes calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, potassium, copper, boron, and manganese. Vitamins C and A (beta carotene) and niacin also are contained in oregano.

Immune System benefits:
Pure oil of oregano is antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic. It also has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and is an ideal product to use for people who suffer from CFS and/or fibromyalgia. Isomeric phenols (primarily carvarcol) in oregano oil in dilutions as low as 1/50,000 destroys Candida albicans, the Aspergillus mold, Staphylococcus, Campylobacter, Klebsiella, E.coli, Giardia, Pseudomonas, and Proteus. Another phenol constituent, thymol, boosts the immune system. These compounds also act as free radical scavengers (shield against toxins) thus preventing further tissue damage while encouraging healing.

Anti-parasitical properties:
The key element in wild oil of oregano is carvacrol. This primary component, with small traces of thymol, linalol and about seven others - make up the "fungicidal and worm-expellant properties" of oil of oregano. These phenols possibly constitute 100% of oil. Oil of oregano can outright destroy all variety of fungi and yeasts, regardless of where they reside

Possible uses include:
· Fighting yeast, fungus (skin and blood-born) · alleviating allergies, hay fever, and sinusitis · stopping infections (cold and flu) · acne · arthritis · asthma · athlete's foot · constipation · croup · dandruff · diarrhea · digestive disturbances · insect bites · bronchitis · canker sores · earaches · fatigue · gum disease · parasites · headaches · menstrual irregularities · psoriasis · toenail problems · seborrhea · ringworm · rosacea · muscle pain · varicose veins · warts…

The uses for oil of oregano are multi-dimensional:
As mentioned above, it has been found helpful in combating diarrhea, intestinal gas, and digestive problems, as well as sore throat and breathing difficulties. Oil of oregano can immediately help against bee stings and many venomous bites until medical attention can be reached. Oil of oregano has even been suggested as a treatment for dandruff, and other skin disorders.

How To Use
Internally:
Take Organic Oil of Oregano by mouth. It is very strong, so when using it internally, drink a glass of water or juice immediately after taking the oregano oil.

For Treating ailments take 1 - 4 drops 1 to 3 times a day with water or juice or put 1-4 drops under the tongue and let stay for 5 - 15 seconds and then drink a glass of water or juice. During treatment of ailments repeat, as many days as needed.

Exercise extra care if using it near the genital region where it is best mixed with olive oil or coconut oil before application (1 drop of Extra Strength Oregano Oil per teaspoon of olive oil or coconut oil). This product is extremely concentrated & not to be used by or for children.

More uses for Oil of Wild Oregano:
Add a drop or two to vegetable oils and other foods to extend their shelf life. Add to water and use as a spray to prevent or eliminate mold, mildew, fungus and airborne bacteria. Use a few drops on a wet cloth for cleaning and sanitizing kitchen counters and bathroom surfaces. Use for daily hygiene by adding small amounts of Oregano oil to liquid soaps for washing hands, feet and body. Carry when traveling for adding to water or food and for treating cuts, scrapes, bites etc

Always test a small amount of oregano oil first for sensitivity or allergic reaction. If under a doctor's care, consult a physician.

Wow, that does sound like a medicine cabinet. Lots of purposes. Now I'd be interested in learning how to home-make organic oil of oregano. I wonder if a person can use olive oil as a solvent to extract the properties from the leaf. It looks like it's important to dilute that concentrate. Hmm, I just remembered these brass or copper things that are for distilling essential oils. It was a long time ago that I researched them. Even the name of them is slipping my mind now. I'd like to look those up again soon. Thanks for the info. I've heard things about oil of oregano before, that it was some pretty good stuff but I hadn't looked into it. It's very interesting and good to know.

Okay, it is called Alembic.
