Herbs are used in many religions – such as (myrrh (Commiphora myrrha), ague root (Aletris farinosa) and frankincense (Boswellia sacra) and in the partially Christianized Anglo-Saxon pagan Nine Herbs Charm. In Hinduism a form of Basil called Tulsi is worshipped as a goddess for its medicinal value since the Vedic times. Many Hindus have a Tulsi plant in front of their houses. + --------- + --------- + ------- + I ran into the above passage after losing out on auctions for Commiphora myrrha seedlings which are a rarity, hard to find in an extreme sense. I wanted to look up each thing in the religious herbs reference. Woden's Nine Herbs Charm kept me fascinated and led me to some plants and information that I had no idea about, and would have never known about had it not been for the poem. I have found since that Glossy Leaf Myrrh (resin) is equal (medicinally) to Commiphora myrrha, is inexpensive to buy the seeds, and can be found on eBay. |
