The short answer is Yes you can grow summer squash in a container. One of the best books on this subject is "Movable Harvests" by Chuck and Barbara Crandall. If you can get a copy it will help. Perhaps your library would get a copy to use. Their contention is that you can grow anything in a container with the right container and the right soil. I use big square pots for my squash, watermelon, and pumpkins rather than SWC. They grow quite nicely and in some cases I use a trellis to keep the fruits off the ground. I'm considering using a trellis for all of them this year even the larger produce. |
