The most glorious evening of his life! The coronation had been splendid, but this. This to Henry was the pinnacle of being a king: the adulation, the cloth of gold making the walls shimmer and tapestries with their beautiful bright colors practically sparkle, the crowds of courtiers cheering to his good health and calling for God to bless him. It put such joy in him to see all of this all for him, the man who was not supposed to be king, born a second son, destined for the church until God called his brother Arthur from this life and deemed Henry the future king. And that future was now. The meal ended, with fanfares and so many courses he couldn't keep count, the shining monarch with his fair hair and beaming smile decided to dance and mingle with his court. So many beautiful women, so many friends to speak to, all of them most likely eager for the king to give them attention on this day of all days. Intent on dancing, on enjoying himself to the utmost tonight, he flashed smiles to those who bowed to him and blessed him, called for his good health, and searched for a partner for perhaps a galliard or volta. |

The conversations with Mistress Joyce led way to dancing after, as a handsome gentleman of court bowed and asked Mary for the pleasure of a dance. "I would be most delighted," she smiled up at him, and accepted the offer and his assistance to the dance floor. The dance was a lively one indeed; luckily, she was young, and he was sure of foot. Once the dance ended, he asked her if he might enjoy the pleasure of her company elsewhere. "Ah, you rakish devil. You seek to lead me to temptation." She shook her head, and curtsied. "I must decline, I'm afraid. Though I do thank you for the dance." Her steps took her to a vacant spot on the edge of the room, and she took a cup of wine from a passing servant. As she partook of her drink, she noticed the king passing through the crowd. Mingling with the herd. A wolf amongst the sheep. Having so many to speak to and pay attention to might overwhelm her, if she were in such a position. Though as God's chosen, the king would definitely persevere and overcome. She gave a small curtsy and a smile in the king's direction, in case he looked her way, and turned her attention to a lady next to her who wished to gush about the extravagance of tonight's banquet. Dull conversation, though it would keep her occupied for the moment. |
