![]() C H A R L E S B R A N D O N ![]() * i tell you all the things you want to hear, You ramble on about how I'm that fire. But if you knew how this is from real, You'd walk away knowing I'm that fire. . HEY THERE. THE NAME IS MEL, AND I AM TWENTY TWO. I'VE BEEN ROLEPLAYING FOR ABOUT EIGHT PLUS YEARS AND MY OTHER CHARACTERS WOULD BE NONE. I FOUND FKAC AT FOREVER AND A DAY AGO AND I DONT REMEMBER HOW. OH, BY THE WAY, I READ THE RULES. WANT PROOF? THE CODE WORD IS THE TROJAN WAR WANT TO REACH ME? HERE'S MY IM: AIM: VIOLENTAMNESTY Oh, how the mighty fell and the weak rose. Charles Brandon himself was quite the perfect example of that, but many had long since forgotten the quite humble beginnings he had come from, mostly through the fact that he was now effectively one of the most influential and powerful men at court. He had the ear of His Majesty, King Henry VIII and a friendship with him that he treasured above all else, for that friendship kept him safe and comfortable and was rooted through a bond that could scarcely be broken in years of having grown up with one another. When his own father had been killed on the battlefield, Charles himself had been brought to Court to live in the company of King Henry VII. It was there that he first met the Prince and had befriended him. It was a tale that few men would ever be fortunate enough to have a thorough understanding of. He had spent a good deal of time at Court, studying and acquainting himself with the courtly lifestyle. But no one had suspected the young Prince Henry or himself to have truly landed the positions of power that they found themselves in. If it had not been for a misfortune that had befallen his own father, William, the odds of Charles having been much more than a high ranking soldier at best were slim to none. And yet, there he was. The death of both Henry's eldest brother opened up a whole world of possibilities and the death of his father thereafter only strengthened the depth of their fates. Charles had remained a friend to His Majesty through it all and, in the end, through His Majesty's trust and good faith in him, he had been elevated to a position of rank the likes of which a man such as himself likely would have only dreamed about. And now it was Charles' job to ensure that he held true to the good King's faith and trust so that he could keep his head quite firmly attatched to his neck and shoulders. He was not blind to His Majesty's faults - an admission of said faults was more than enough to threaten the precarious intact state of his neck as it was. He knew well enough that Henry was quite capable of being a vain, hotheaded man that had to be handled quite carefully when he was in a particular mood. Charles had made a point of learning exactly how to handle said situations. But it didn't make his precarious position any less terrifying. One wrong move. One wrong gesture could leave His Majesty in a fit that would leave him shunned indefinitely. However, there were far worse men that Charles could see eagerly chewing at the bit for a bid on the English throne, either through conquer or through marriage of one of their sisters or daughters. England was a strong country, more than capable of holding herself through her religion and the good faith of their King. It was simply the greatest and strongest country in the world and it was up to those who were in the good graces and good council of His Majesty to ensure that Britain remained that way. Charles couldn't deny that he owed an invariable debt to His Majesty for both his friendship and his current position. After all, an entire Dutchy - Suffolk to be exact - had been awarded to him for his show of honor, integrity and everlasting loyalty to His Majesty throughout the years. It was quite the distinguishing and notable happenstance for a man who otherwise might have come from nothing and otherwise had nothing. Not to mention, Henry knew that Charles was the closest to him. The one he could rely on most of all to see to it that his every desire was catered to. And Charles would gladly ensure that His Majesty's every wish and desire was catered to personally, if it meant keeping his position and seeing to it that the King was kept in high spirits. Charles couldn't deny the fact that he had his own political agenda. There were a number of those at Court who certainly held no love for him and a number of others who made an attempt at gaining his ear. Charles was far from saintly quality. He made mistakes just as any other man did. But the fact of the matter was that he had the means to make reparations and ease relations with others without raising much fuss over it. Whereas a good number of individuals truly couldn't afford to make an enemy out of Charles Brandon, Charles was at a point in his life where, a goodly portion of the time, he could pick and choose his friends and allies as he so desired. It was the position he had tethered for himself and one that he fully intended to hold fast to for as long as he could. There had recently been a war fought, one in which Charles had done a spectacular job of distinguishing himself in, even if he did say so himself. He had played his cards right and had come out a victor, right along with England herself. He had remained vigilant at His Majesty's side and had helped lead the English forces through to victory. And for that, he had been rewarded once again. No, Charles could never forget everything he owed to His Majesty, but nor could he forget everything he had done and likely would do for the sake of King and Court. |
