* Lie awake in bed at night
And think about your life
Do you want to be different?
Try to let go of the truth
The battles of your youth
'Cause this is just a game .

There was a time when Andrew looked up to his older brother, but that fascination died quickly. As soon as John decided against acting foolishly as much as his two younger brothers did, Andrew saw him as the man he would grow to become, and Andrew didn’t like it. As children though, he did his best to enjoy the time he had with his brothers. Nothing or no one could come between them, or so Andrew thought.

Andrew cared little for their older sister, simply because she was a girl. She had to act proper as soon as she could walk, but the boys? They could do as they damn well pleased. It would always be Jerome and Andrew who would get the strap, more than John ever did. But even with the asses red raw they still found it in their duty to misbehave. Besides life was short was it not? It wasn’t in their nature to stop and smell the roses, they would be more likely trod on the things as they ran from God only knows what.

Despite Andrew and Jerome refusing to give up on their foolish ways, John grew up to be the man he was today. Andrew forever hated him for it. Gone was the brother who he used to look up to, for now John was a man, with a high and mighty title and a wife to call his own. This and their father’s demise made Andrew sink low into the world of liquor, women, gambling; whatever sinful deeds that would take him. He had delved deep in such a world before, but he had never gone as deep as he had gone at this point in his life. How Andrew managed to become a Knight of the Garter was beyond him, but he had suspected it was all John’s doing as was likely the reason for Jerome’s own knighthood. So Andrew tried with all his might to make John regret putting in such a good word for him. Couldn’t John see that Andrew didn’t want something to be proud about? No matter how much he realised that he would one day actually have something that he truly believed in.

When Andrew finally attended court, he didn’t last long at all. Nearly every second week he was being yelled at by his dear big brother, yet it was a high price for all the women, liquor and gambling he could ever want or need. And then of course there was the sport. Anything that involved a sword or lance in his hand he actually would have his head on straight and maybe even sober. It was probably the smartest thing he did, such dangerous sport was sure to have him lose a limb or even his life and he wouldn’t want to end his torment on his brother so soon now would he?

The only other person in the whole country he tormented was John’s own wife, Catherine (probably merely in the means to torment John more). Andrew grew a fascination for his sister-in-law, probably a dangerous one. Out of all the women he could and did have, Catherine had to be the woman he truly wanted in his bed. Yes, it all started with taunts on Catherine leaving his brother and running away with him, but such lewd behaviour towards his sister-in-law had to make one wonder whether he truly wanted to steal his brother’s wife. Unfortunately for Andrew, nothing ever happened between them. He instead (after John suggested to him) went after another woman. John had told (yelled at him more like) to take up only one woman to be his mistress. And after John attempted and failed to marry Andrew off into the Dacre family, Andrew decided that just this once he would oblige his brother.

The only problem was this particular lady was Christina, a Princess of Denmark. No one knew about this union and for the first time, Andrew was behaving. He had given up all other women and most of his liquor, he at least had been sober a lot more than he had been drunk. Everything has a price though. Everything began to unravel about the time Christina announced to him that she was with child, his child. Try as he did, he wanted to keep her as his own, but being a Princess, it was not to happen. Christina was whisked away leaving Andrew to once again face the wrath of his brother.

To say that John was furious with Andrew was putting it lightly. Reminding John that it was his own idea for Andrew to stay with only one woman didn’t help either. Andrew was basically left for dead, cut from his allowance and left to survive on his own for the first time in his life. He hated his brother more for that, if that were even possible. Yet, he still attempted to make amends with John, taking himself away from court with the means to marry Jane Guildford for her title and wealth. He was going to try and be good for her, change for her, but that union never happened. Twice he had thought of returning to court to pledge to his brother, but he never made it. He had instead returned home, just as the men were rallying for war. He considered going with them, considered using it as a way to leave England and his wretched brother behind in a mind to track down his beloved Princess, but one thought kept him where he was.

If John were to die in France, Andrew would inherit everything. That thought alone made him live again. He did not pray for his brother to die, but if the news were to come then he would be ready for it. Andrew lived off only what his mother could give him, which wasn’t much at all. It was hard, yet had to be the longest time he had been completely sober in years. And the first time in his life, he willingly began to study, not for the sake of taking over his brother’s estates, but to try all his might what happened to his and Christina’s bastard child. He knew they would have never been able to raise it themselves, so it would have gone to someone who could.

No matter how many dead ends he came across, he didn’t stop searching and by some miracle he not only learned the whereabouts of his child, but that said child was still in the country! No wonder his search had taken so long, he had assumed Christina had her child in Denmark, but all along she had still been in England! The pain that he had gone on living thinking Christina was long gone when she had simply been hiding had near killed him. He would have wanted to stay with her at the very end, but now by some rumour he tracked down any leads of families who inherited a bastard child. It proved difficult with so many children and so many refusing to give him information, but what else could he do with his time? One such rumour was of the former Duchess having one such child. Some thought that it was her own child, Norfolk having annulled the marriage based on the fact that she had given him a girl rather than the son she craved, but others swore she had lost her own child and was given the bastard to distract her from her sorrow.

Andrew had only met Isabella Clyde once; she had slapped him and told him to behave before informing her friend Catherine that he was very much like a misbehaving dog. Andrew actually shuddered at the thought of seeing her again, especially if Norfolk still had a hold on her. But that was when Andrew got the biggest shock of his life. Isabella was not the girl anymore, the girl who slapped him and said silly things, she actually was a woman with the full mind as one. But the biggest miracle of all was that not only was she happy to have him visit her but she was happy to let him know that if the rumour was true that the little baby girl she now cared for was indeed Andrew’s own flesh and blood.

Andrew almost died at the news. His search was over. Then the Marchioness gave him the greatest gift of all, she allowed him to stay and not only live with her, but be in his daughter’s life. Isabella had no husband, so she could do as she wished while her father was still alive. All Andrew had to do was promise to learn how to behave and regrettably, attempt to make amends with his brother. The day Isabella told him those terms, he walked out only to return weeks later. He owed it to his daughter; he owed it to Christina to take good care of their daughter, Mary. Sighing in defeat, Andrew agreed and with the news that Jerome had survived his time in Scotland, Andrew wondered if the Dudley boys could ever stand in the same room and not kill each other.
