![]() JOAN BULMER ![]() * Don't want to hear about it, every single one's got a story to tell. Everyone knows about it from the Queen of England to the hounds of hell. . HEY THERE. THE NAME IS SAMMAY, AND I AM 18. I'VE BEEN ROLEPLAYING FOR ABOUT 3-4 Years AND MY OTHER CHARACTERS WOULD BE George Boleyn, Ursula Pole, Pietro Torrigiano. I FOUND FKAC AT On the moon. OH, BY THE WAY, I READ THE RULES. WANT PROOF? THE CODE WORD IS alternate universe WANT TO REACH ME? HERE'S MY IM: l0v3xst0nedd My name is Joan Bulmer, the daughter of George Acworth of Luton, Bedfordshire and Margaret Wilberforce. I've been tucked away in Lambeth for as long as I can remember, and God do I hate it here. There's nothing to do but knit and waste away the hours flirting with a servant or two. Like any young girl I was tutored in sewing and singing. I don't write very well, as my father thought it useless to have a daughter read and write. I guess in some respects he was right, because writing never came in handy for me. I was married off at the age of eleven to William Bulmer. However, he cared very little for his child-bride and I was stuck in his household while he took mistress after mistress. I complained to my mother, who encouraged me to take a position with Agnes Tilney, the Dowager Duchess of Norfolk. Desperate for an escape I accepted immediately, and was soon housed with her and the other girls in Lambeth. Most of the other girls were there because their families did not care for them, or have enough money to send them to court. I was denied a place at court when my father pleaded on my behalf. So, I remained in Lambeth to befriend the other girls. I became close to girls like Katherine Tylney and Margaret Benett. However, I believed myself to be closest to Catherine Howard. She was my age, and we were both bubbling with youth and good looks. After months in Lambeth I finally managed to find myself some entertainment in the form of a young servant. He was handsome and only a few years older than myself. We would hold each other close at night and in the morning he would sneak out through the window. All the girls had boys in their chambers. Even Catherine had a boy to entertain herself with. His name was Francis Dereham and he was handsome. All the girls were stricken by his good looks. We would squeal with joy at her good fortune. Things continued like that for a while. We would sew and practice our dancing, and at night the boys would sneak into our rooms. Then, Catherine was summoned to court. It seemed her powerful Howard name had worked in her favor. She was offered a place in the Queen's household as one of her ladies. I was jealous as could be. At court there would be dancing every night, fine food and a chance to meet boys with futures, as opposed to servants. She was given the opportunity I deserved. On the day she was set to leave, I did not say good bye and stand at the doors as the other girls did. I did not want to see her off, and watch her walk into the glamorous world that I had been denied. For many months I sat in Lambeth, bored as could be. I awaited my time to journey to court. I worked at my sewing fiercely, learned to write a bit -but not too much-, and practiced the art of conversation. Of course I used my newly developed skills on the servant boys, who would gather around me now that I had a refined air. I wanted to exude the type of confidence and breeding that took years to master. News soon came that my husband was ill. I was rushed back to the household to find that they had already listed me as a widow in the records. They claimed that William was too sick to ever find the strength to recover and he would be gone within the week. I was shocked at the suddenness of the new title of widow, but relieved at the same time. I now had freedom from my husband. I could do more than give into blind lust... I could possibly find love. The records were finalized, but a week went by and my husband was still alive, and recovering quickly. Rather than call back the official to correct the mistake, I simply let it be. Why did it matter anyway? I was as good as dead to my husband. He would be happy I was listed as a widow. No one would ever look through those records, and if they did they would find I truly was a widow, at least on paper. I left my husband's home with a new sense of happiness. I was free to finally do as I pleased. Upon returning to Lambeth I informed the others of my husband's passing. They all knew of our hatred for one another, and offered me words of pity, as well as words of hope. Then, news arrived of Catherine Howard's marriage to Charles Brandon, the Duke of Suffolk. The same jealousy I had felt when she left for court had surfaced once more. Catherine was the Duchess of Suffolk and I was still stuck in Lambeth. However, instead of sit in self-pity and wallow for myself, I decided to turn her marriage to my advantage. I would blackmail her into giving me a position in her household. Certainly the Duchess of Suffolk would need ladies. I would use the information I had on her and Dereham and ask for a place among her ladies. I packed my bags and hired a coachman to take me to Hampton Court with the permission of Agnes Tilney. My future is looking brighter already as I draw closer and closer to Hampton Court. |
