Unlike her impromptu visit with Henry, this visit with her brother Thomas was going to be planned better and not nearly as rushed. It was late evening again, seeing as she was needed by the Queen until a very late hour tonight, but she had sent a message on much earlier in the day asking Thomas if he minded if she could stop by, and Thomas had replied that he didn't. Hopefully he wouldn't be with company now. It seemed that some of the young men at court were in the habit of gambling and drinking into the early hours of the morning, and while she didn't think any of her brothers would behave in such a manner, they still might be keeping company late at night. Margaret hoped she wouldn't be interrupting anything. Now that she knew her way around the castle a little better, she didn't cling quite so tightly to the servant that guided her through the halls. In her hands was a package made especially for Thomas by her own hand. Another shirt of course; her brothers were constantly bombarded by things she made for them. A small smile touched her mouth as she smoothed her fingers over the package, pleased with her work. She imagined Thomas would like it; hopefully it would fit him. She hadn't seen any of her brothers for what felt like the longest time, and she'd been guessing with all of their measurements. Henry said she had gotten his right; soon it would be time to see whether she'd done the same with Thomas. If not, she could always have him measured so she could start anew with him. Now that they were all at court together trying to guess how much his shoulders had grown within the last year wouldn't be a problem. Though her brothers might receive less of her gifts now that the Spencers were at court too. There was so much family and very little time to tend to them all. She waited outside Thomas's room while the servant announced her, and then she stepped in when bid, ready to greet her brother with all of the enthusiasm that she'd used for Henry. "Thomas!" She exclaimed, a smile breaking over her face as she rushed to give her brother a hug. "It's so good to see you!" Pausing, she took a step back and offered him the package in her hands. "Here - I'm not sure that it will fit you now that I look at you. You've gotten taller, Thomas." She leaned to kiss his cheek with a giggle. "You and Henry both look so different. And so does our cousin William! All of the Spencers are here at court too. I promised William that Ellie and I would be friends." Clasping her hands, she looked around the rooms her brother had been given. "This is wonderful, Thomas. All of us are together at court again!" All they needed was their last brother and their father, and they would be a family again. Margaret missed the days when they were all still young enough to stay at home with her. "How have you been keeping, Thomas?" She asked as her eyes settled on him again. "You look well. Are you happy at court?" Margaret hoped he was. That was her wish for all of her brothers. |

Thomas hadn't been terribly surprised when the request for a meeting with his sister had been brought to him. His sister was the one sibling that he really doted on and appreciated. His eldest brother, Henry, Thomas could have certainly done without. Their younger brother, however, Thomas neither hated nor adored. He was indifferent, for the most part. He had been harassed and annoyed as a child by the youngest Percy brother, but he hadn't been nearly as irritated by him as he had by Henry. Henry, the sickly heir to the Percy legacy. In the minutes prior to the time Margaret was due to arrive at his rooms, he pushed all thought of their incapable brother from his mind and focused only on the sheer pleasure of seeing his sweet and endearing sister once more. Thomas wasn't sure how he would have otherwise kept his sanity stuck at court with his brother if Margaret hadn't been available to them all. Three years younger than he, she was becoming a fine woman. Thomas could only hope that any husband she wound up with treated her well enough, lest Thomas have to see to his... disposal. Finally, a servant knocked at the door and announced Margaret. Thomas waved the servant off and stood up from his writing desk. The moment Margaret entered the room, he was nearly floored at how much a woman she had become and in such little time. It was a matter of only seconds before his sister smiled at him and hugged him. Thomas hugged her close a moment, beyond glad to see her. "Margaret. It has been too long." he murmured, more than happy to see her. "Here - I'm not sure that it will fit you now that I look at you. You've gotten taller, Thomas." He smiled at that. "Well, I'm certainly not the same boy as I was all those years ago, Margaret." he smiled as he took the package. No doubt it was a shirt. He would deal with it later though. First of all, he wanted to spend as much time with his sister as he could manage before either one of them was called away to duty. His sister seemed genuinely pleased to see him. Quite frankly, he would have been pleased to see him to if he had been stuck at court with none other than their brother, Henry for so long. His stomach nearly churned at the thought. Surely he would have strangled his brother by now. But dear, sweet Mag was always willing to put on a smile and tough out familial differences for the sake of peace. He admired that trait to some extent. Then again, he thought it foolish. "How have you been keeping, Thomas?" "Well enough, I suppose. Father sends his love to you." he commented as he lead her further into his rooms and to a sitting area so that she could rest and relax in his company while they caught up a little. "As for court life..." He paused a moment, barely catching himself upon stating that he certainly didn't appreciate their brother being there to spoil all of the fun. "I'm making friends. It'll be nice to get reacquainted with Francis. I was, after all, always much closer to him than I was William." He shrugged. "And you, Sister? Please tell me court has been treating you well these past months." |

"Well, I'm certainly not the same boy as I was all those years ago, Margaret." It almost frightened her to see how her brothers had changed. Sometimes Margaret wondered if she would even recognize them if she hadn't purposefully sought them out in their own rooms. Would she be able to spot their faces if they were mingling with the rest of the men at court? All of them looked so grown up and as though they knew so much of the world. Margaret felt almost inadequate when she was at court because she felt as though she knew so little of what was going on. Over the past few weeks she'd begun to get a better handle on her duties to the queen, but there were still so many political matters that went right over her head. A glance between two courtiers could be a very big thing, and to Margaret, it was still only a glance. She didn't know enough of everyone to catch the little things. "You must let me know if it doesn't fit, Thomas. I'll make another." That she would, too. She couldn't imagine doing anything else. "It might take me longer than usual, though. The Queen likes to keep us with her." She didn't mind it, either. The tasks she was given weren't overly difficult and she could do them well enough to please Her Majesty. They were just a little time consuming, but the Queen liked a happy court almost as much as the King did, and so she was seldom miserable. Unfortunately it left her less time to explore the library or spend time with her brothers, but there was very little that could be done about that. At least they were all nearby now and if anything were to happen, she would have someone to run to. Not that she should be relying on her brothers to solve her problems for her, but it would be nice to have someone to talk to should anything ever occur. That, and she was very afraid of not having friends at court, but that was something to think about another time. It was good to hear that Thomas was making friends of his own though and Margaret brightened considerably as she sank into the chair he offered. "The Spencers are absolutely lovely. I'm glad they are here with us. As for court, things have been well enough. I have tried to avoid secrets and scandals as best I can." That she said with a little bit of a laugh. "Then again, I haven't associated with very many people outside of the Queen's ladies, so it hasn't been very difficult to keep myself out of trouble." Though some of them had been arrested for heresy when she first arrived, she hadn't known enough to even be interrogated about the matter, and for that she was very careful. She kept away from those select few. She had no interest in betraying the Catholic faith. "There is so much to avoid here, Thomas." Margaret's brow furrowed slightly. "Sometimes it can be so exhausting. I feel as though I never know when I might do something wrong." |
