Virtue alone is invincible.
Late December 1511

It had snowed! It had snowed, snowed, snowed, and despite the nagging feeling in the back of Isabel's mind that there was absolutely no way she should do such a thing, the redheaded decided she was going to go play in it. Certainly, it would be very country bumpkin-esque for her to do, but if she went as far away from all as possible without causing any fuss, and ensuring her absence was alright with Her Majesty. The only thing was that she needed was certain equipment...

The knight shield was obtained through an acquaintance of Isabel's: he seemed a very proper gentleman, and when asked by the redheaded woman if she could borrow his shield for but a day, he accommodated her. So, with the knight shield hid as carefully as possible beneath her green mantle, Isabel began trekking through the grounds of Hampton Court, searching for a hill just tall enough to sled down. She was dressed warmly in the relatively new green mantle trimmed in fur, with the hood drawn up around her face and several red curls peeking out. Gloves kept her hands relatively warm, and she wore two pairs of stockings beneath her dress. Isabel knew there was no way her feet would come away dry or completely warm, but the layering would help for some time.

Finally, Isabel spotted the hill she sought. Trees covered most of it, but there was one face with smooth and pure snow, perfect for sledding! Smiling like a child and laughing to herself, the redhead lugged the shield to the top of the hill and flopped it down, face first upon the snow. This was going to be so fun! Isabel arranged her skirts and legs upon the shield, feeling the brisk temperature of the metal beneath her. Through rocking back and forth, the shield edged towards the precipice of the hill, and with one forceful jerk, the shield went shooting down the hillside. "AHAHAAAAAAA!" Isabel laughed loudly as the shield hooked around and sent her sideways and she skidded to a halt. A huge smile was upon her face, her cheeks were flushed with color, and she was giggling almost uncontrollably. Oh, how she forgot the joy of sledding!

Jane Guildford loved snow and it was being made self-evident by the fact she was crouched down, rolling it into little balls to make snow people. Moments ago, she had finished a rather large one and gotten it into her head that it needed a companion so that was what she was currently doing. Her hair was unbound and fell into her eyes, but didn't temper her progress as she fashioned the bottommost snowball. However, it was at the joyous call behind her that she turned from her project to look.

Someone was sledding. She didn't think she would see such a thing at court and it was all she could do not to run like a maniac over to the sledder. She had to ask if she could join them and then perhaps ask if they wanted to help her make her snow people. After all, a sledder wouldn't be opposed to that, would they, especially one who whooped with such glee.

"That looks like glorious fun!" she said as she got closer to the sledder. "Would you allow me a go, my lady?"

As she swept her eyes over her, she noticed red curls and was amused by the fact that two redheads would be so interested in snowtime fun. She wondered if that make them two of kind. She never thought of herself as one of a pair, but it might be an interesting venture.

Oh, she thought distastefully, I have truly become like my father, thinking for business at every turn. She didn't want to be like that. She wanted to always see things for what they were, not for business or advancement though she certainly wasn't averse to a well-connected marriage or partnership of any kind. Still, a friendship was not a business transaction.

Or is it?

The giggling issuing from the redhead's mouth petered out promptly as Isabel realized she was not alone. Her blue eyes widened in some fright -- after all, sledding upon a knight's shield wasn't necessarily the conduct of a lady, especially a lady in service to the Queen. Her lips parted and she looked like a doe caught in the headlights as the person, a fellow woman with red hair, asked if she could sled as well.

Oh, thank goodness! Isabel laughed in relief, the panic that coursed through her veins quickly subsiding. "Of course, My Lady!" She laughed she didn't know the lady by sight or name, but she was sure that would shortly be remedies. "It is such fun. Come, let us climb to the top of the hill, and you shall have your turn!"

Isabel pointed her feet up the hill, hoisted the chilled shield onto her shoulder and almost falling over with the weight, but she steadied herself. It was good that the men were the ones to fight; Isabel was lucky she could lug the shield long enough to sled upon it. "What might your name be, My Lady? Try as I might, I'm afraid I am unacquainted with you."
