Queen Francesca de' Medici
Unregistered

Silence fell on the pair as Francesca contemplated Jane’s explanation. She used this silence to think in her head, and a the same time tilt her head this way and that to contemplate the golden pin. Always preferring gold to silver, on account of its colour on her dark hair and its effect in making her skin seem paler than its Mediterranean olive, Francesca ran a hand over the delicate spun filigree and master craftsmanship that accompanied the pin.

Indeed she was not thinking at all about the pin but about what to do. She was thinking of the two Seymour brothers and what this information could mean for her. They were not her enemies now, but they had the very potential of becoming so. Francesca’s hands were tied. She needed to secure her position before she gave birth to her ultimate security. A son. A son would ensure that she would stay on the throne until her death, a son would make everything right.

”You should speak to him more often. I will give you leave to do so. I was very close with my cousin Lorenzo, he was as a brother to me. I know how hard it is to be away from family. You mustn’t let me keep you apart.” Francesca said emphatically, although there was a different motive for having Jane stay with her brother, Francesca’s words also had truth in them.

With Jane’s description of the duchess, Francesca couldn’t let out a little laugh. ”I think the Duchess is too proud to see what you are. Your ruse is very good Jane.”
