Elizabeth Caplet , Dowager Marchioness of Winchester

Elizabeth Caplet was a spoiled child from the beginning. She was the only only child out of William Capel, lord mayor and his wife. After she was born, complications arose where her mother could no longer reproduce, so, she was the pride and joy of her mother and father. As she grew, her parents focused greatly on giving her an optimal education for a woman. As she entered teenager-dom, her parent's eyes settled on marrying her to a respectable man who would be able to take care of her. Luckily, a man's eyes were already set on her, the eyes of Elizabeth Caplet , Marquess of Winchester.

She was 16 when she was married to William Paulet and became Marchioness of Winchester. On the outside, Paulet was a respectable man and Eleanor was elated to marry such a fine man. But, after the initial wedding bliss wore off, she began to see how wrong she was. It turned out that William Paulet, nearly twice her age at 30 years old, he had been married twice before, but both woman had since passed away. She also quickly picked up on his penchant for going out at night and returning drunk, where she was helpless against his drunken acts.

She became pregnant less than a year into the marriage, though stormy nights when her husband would return home drunk would end in fights which stressed Elizabeth to the point of a miscarriage three months into the pregnancy. This would happen twice more until Elizabeth finally broke free.

She was 18 years old when her husband contracted an illness and passed away. The new Dowager Marchioness was finally rid of a husband she had fallen out of love with.

With a newfound freedom, Elizabeth Caplet embraced everything that came her way. She found that she loved to have a good time, and returned to doing things that William Paulet had long since denied her of doing. She went horseback riding everyday for hours and took up falconry and archery. Though, soon, the pull of court life called her and she found herself longing for the hustle and bustle of the king and queen's court. So, a year after her husband's death at the age of 19, Eleanor Alger Marchioness of Winchester entered King Henry VIII's court to serve as a lady-in-waiting to the queen.

  • - - - - Roleplay Sample, From another site:
It was often said that the woods was probably not a good place to be at night, especially with the introduction of the 'supernaturals' like werewolves and shapeshifters. But, to Lamia Hecate, those minor beings in the world held no threat. With her power, they could easily be subdued and possess no threat. The only time she would have an issue would be if she lacked the ability to connect to their mind and form a vital link. But, one thing Lamia was was confident in her abilities. So, despite the better advice of the various different people around Whitefield, she went out into the woods. At Night.

She really couldn't understand the whole fear of the woods at night among the few people she had met who held the fear. It was just like any other forest she had ever been in in her whole life. Quiet, secluded, and peaceful. The last two being the reasons why she liked them so much. The forest offered her a seclusion from the groups of people that daily gave her headaches with their judging eyes. Though most 'regular' people she had come across were accepting of the gifted and other supernatural beings, there were still some that held their prejudices. She had dubbed them the 'racists' and hated them with every fiber of her being. It took all of the control she had not to go off on them once she realized their stance.

So, the forest brought her a type of peace, a place where she could let her mental guard down and not worry about harming anyone. So, when she found her mind wandering back to the memory of her mother and her life before moving to Whitefield, she knew that she needed some 'alone time'. So, she found herself wandering through the woods, in the middle of the night, and alone.

Hello!

There are a few little problems with this app. Once they're fixed you can go on through!

a) She cannot be the daughter of a Duke. There are only 4 in existence at this point in England. I would say make her the daughter of a baron or some other lowly peer where the peerage cannot pass through the female line (because most of them didn't).

B) Eleanor would not learn how to fight with swords. That was a man's thing. Falconry is fine; archery is pushing it. She can't do all this stuff guys do.

c) Upon her husband's death, she would be Dowager Marchioness. The title would be inherited by siblings or cousins, not given to Eleanor upon his death. She would have some money, but that's about it. As a woman her main goal would to get married again considering that's pretty much all that noblewomen did; serve the Queen or a Princess as a lady in waiting while you waited to get married.

d) She absolutely would not have a man's education. Men and women were educated differently, as well as men learning things women wouldn't like how to joust, fight, etc. She would learn how to read and write, sew, be a good and entertaining hostess, and basic theological stuff like her Catchecism. We have a thread up about education in the Tudor Handbook.

e) The Marquessate of Winchester was in the Paulet family, so I'd change her name, just for the sake of historical accuracy, though you don't have to.

Thanks!

Okay, that's all fixed! I changed her last name to Paulet, but I can't figure out how to change the title of the thread, so that's still the original name. XD.
