To my fortune I had been the first born of Edmund and Mary Compton of Warwickshire. Throughout my entire childhood I practically lived in my father's pocket, learning how to ride steeds, shoot a bow, cut down trees and drink the tartest of wines. I shadowed every move of my father, even to the brink of his taste for sightly women. I was too young to fully understand, but I pretended anyway. It made my father laugh and my mother roll her eyes and smirk in a reluctant sort of humor. I adored my parents. They were always good to me. So good that my mother herself had tutors sent to educate me in grand academics. Reading, writing, navigation, simple mathematics.. I took to it like an arrow in a stag's hide.

When I reached the tender age of fourteen, I was sent to attend on young Henry VIII. My father and Henry VII were close friends, and in no time I had found my own in the young prince. I had been born nine years before, but somehow managed to find things in that boy that I knew would carry him great distances. But I never thought he would end up as my King.. he had his father and brother and his future nieces and nephews in front of him; too less of a chance for all of them to die.

But I was there when King Henry VII died. I was there by his son's side, mourning with him as if it were my own father. I was there when King Arthur died, and I was there by his younger sibling's side, mourning with him as if it were my own flesh and blood. I knew right away the friend I had held so close was now my rightful Sovereign. I was overcome with joy.

At Henry's accession, I was given the title Groom of the Stool, having kept my closeness to the King firmly intact. I, and I only had this sort of proximity to the Great Harry. So close that I sat on public row to oversee a trial concerning Anne of Stafford, beside many other noted men of worth. The end result escapes me, but all I know was that I soon had that Countess in my grip. I desired her for the wealth and titles she held and for the body she carried, but after awhile I began to appreciate her for the mind behind that thick skull of hers. Unfortunately though Anna may still share my bed, but does not my heart. The girl is utterly smitten for me, I dare say, and I cannot bring myself to return such affections. I care for her deeply, but that is all. She is strong, though, and I do feel it will all be right soon enough.
