  • - - - - Loves, For the sake of passing time when not attending to the King's more intimate needs, Thomas likes to woodwork. He is masterful at carving small, detailed, personal relics and trinkets.

Card playing, gambling, favoring His Majesty's wine, a good laugh, His Majesty's exciting hunts, admiring the Ladies-In-Waiting, charming court superiors, closely befriending His Majesty, and gaining a better image than his father Edward for the Culpeper clan.

    - - - - Loathes, Thomas can't help but to sometimes despise his father, knowing he could have carried on the Culpeper name much more successfully -and honorably- than he.

Kept in secrecy, Thomas does not hold close his religious faith as say, Catherine of Aragon would. When an event, such a personal event, has left him bitter and unresolved, Thomas often curses his own god and is further enraged by how he cannot control his own life happenings. Why he cannot explain a stillborn, a blackened heart or a tyrant ruler.

Lord Thomas loathes pie, frivolous things, lack of self control, clog dancing, the French, fetching the King's mistresses, bathing his sovereign lord, an unsuccessful hunt and, of course, cats.

    - - - - Strengths, His hands. He is so skillful with his hands.

Hand-eye coordination, proving much useful in His Majesty's common jousting tournaments, extravagant hunting trips and challenging archery.

Strong calves and thighs, making him an excellent horseman.

A wide sense of humor, but when it comes to the king, it is usually centered on the bantering of various of women at court.

Has a charming, though sometimes mischievous way of persuasion.

    - - - - Weaknesses, Pretty Ladies-In-Waiting.

Talk of his misplaced, estranged family and the crumbling of the Culpeper name.

    His Majesty's wine.

A long night of gambling and card playing.

    - - - - Dreams, Being such a close and trusted servant of the king, Thomas hopes and dreams that one day, His Majesty will renew the Culpeper name and grant him a most generous title over an extravagant estate.

Alas, Thomas also hopes he will have a beautiful wife to share this all with.

    - - - - Fears, Ending up as miserable and lonely as his father, having a family only to be separated from them, losing the king's faith, England becoming completely and helplessly isolated, and the plague.

    - - - - Overall Personality, As anyone else in court, Thomas is a very polite and formal man, though he is unafraid of facing his enemies and will "tell them like it is." He is a very smart and cunning man, despite his sparse education as a child. King Henry once described him as "the most wittingly mischievous man in his Privy Council." But, of course to the king, Thomas is incredibly loyal and trustworthy, knowing the more mysterious side of his personality is exempt from his sovereign lord.

Thomas is usually always sharing a good laugh with the king, and is usually the reason why he's laughing. Thomas has a wide sense of humor, sometimes even sarcastic, and entertains even himself.

  • - - - - Family Members,
    Edward Culpeper to Mary Howard
    Howard Clan; distant cousins
    Boleyn Clan; distant cousins
    - - - - Overall History, There wasn't much rejoice when Thomas was born. Not the sort of joy a son should bring his father and his household, anyway. His mother was already burdened with three other mouths to feed, not including herself and her husband. The Culpeper family welcomed Thomas' birth with heavy thoughts and reluctant hands. It cost money to raise children, and money was something Thomas' father, Edward, was slowly running out of.

Edward's investments into the trade of cloth and silk had somehow gone stale, the tastes of his fellow Englishmen and women differing from his own determination. Soon enough, Edward was spending more money than he could make and eventually couldn't even pay to feed his oxen, leaving he and his family stranded. Despite their high nobility and high born blood, Edward was a failure. By the time Thomas had reached the age of fourteen, Edward had announced that his pension from the King was once and for all reduced to nearly shambles. This left the Culpeper family no other option but to separate, to lessen the expense of a family, to find their own homes, own wives and husbands, own food, own money.

And that was the last time Thomas saw his two older brothers and sister. They, too, left separate of each other. His mother and father were the only ones that departed still in each other's arms. Thomas, by the hand of his father's and the King's, was sent to court to enter service for the two Majesties of England.

For six years Thomas served most humbly to the King and Queen, at first acting only as one of His Majesty's many attendants. Over time he advanced further and further, eventually earning gentleman to the King's Privy Council. Today Thomas Culpeper has regained much of the honor and nobility his father Edward had lost, standing as a close friend and servant to his soverign lord.

  • - - - - Roleplay Sample,
    Quote:

What a black, dark day for the English realm. Filled with solemn so deep, Thomas himself felt the weight of the burdening grief terrorizing His Majesty and his subjects. He almost felt bloated with sorrow, yet proud that England shared their king’s loss as if it were their own wives and sons. But being gentleman to King Henry’s Privy Council, Thomas knew this hadn’t eased His Majesty’s pain, none at all. If anything, it had only deepened it, knowing a woman, fine enough to earn an entire country’s love and trust, was gone from his grasp. Comfort, at the moment, was useless and futile. Thomas felt as if he’d go mad with such contagious sorrow.

As soon as his sovereign lord disappeared into his chambers for the remainder of the lonely night, Thomas made haste to find a place that allowed, no, blessed him with just one, simple, comforting, deep breath. He felt like he’d been walking on eggshells for days now, and to say the least, both his tense shapely calves and frozen lungs were beginning to tire.

“God bless you, Queen Margaret.” He whispered softly to himself the moment he was able to find refuge in the courtyard. The air about him seemed to quiver with England’s wide-spread grief. The late queen was a gentle woman loved by all her subjects, and to take in each empty breath without her was something even Thomas Culpeper was yet to swallow. Why the peoples’ queen and her bless-ed son deserved such a fate was beyond the young Lord, and was at a loss even when it came to the health of his beloved king.

“And may He help us all.”
