    - - - - Overall Personality,
Lorenzo has the unfortunate stigma of being the son of the man who caused the exile of the Medici family from Florence for a time. When your father is known as Piero the Unfortunate, you tend to strive to prove yourself a better man. Not only did he have the shroud of misery flung on his shoulders due to his father, but he also had the 'honor' of being named for on of the Medici's most beloved forefathers, thus having two suffocating shadows to stand apart from. He has not the feeble, arrogant character of his father, nor does he have the bold assurance of his grandfather. Instead, Lorenzo falls in a happy medium. A quiet intellect, an artistic eye, and a natural, but undefined charisma stand out as Lorenzo's most prominent characteristics.

He's a handsome young man, of that there is no doubt, though his confidence doesn't quite match his countenance. He draws people in with his easy listening ear and sympathetic nature but it's quite obvious he is shy around most, women more specifically. He has a keen mind for politics and strategics, but fails when it comes to courtly flirtations. He is an honest man, perhaps a little too much so. A fault which can probably be explained by his youth and optimism. Even still, he can sometimes come across as rude, though it is not his intention. His uncle had hopes he might find a suitable wife in court as well, perhaps strike a friendship with the king, which would even more solidify the Meidici family, and Florence, with England. Where he failed with women he seemed to soar with men and quickly became a fast friend of the kings.

Lorenzo is still learning the delicate balance of politics. He can sometimes see discussions as debates and he is a very opinionated man. Though a small lack of confidence keeps him from speaking at first, once he finds his comfort zone he can be quite opinionated and mayhaps a little argumentative on points he is passionate about. Despite how it may seem, he enjoys the debate and likes to challenge his own ideas against those of other people.

  • - - - - Family Members,
    - Father: Piero de' Medici
    - Mother: Alfonsina Orsini
    - Sister: Clarice de' Medici
    - Uncle: Giovanni de' Medici
    - Cousin: Francesca de' Medici

    - - - - Overall History,
The first of two children and the only son, Lorenzo was born the same year his father took control of Florence after his father, Lorenzo's namesake, Lorenzo the Magnificent. It shouldn't have been a hard task to take on as the former ruler had held his position for 23 years and would later be known as one of the most successful rulers of his time. However after only two years Piero and his family found themselves exiled from their home, forced to wander Italy and Europe. At first they stayed in Venice, where Lorenzo spent most of his young life. His father was notorious for being an ally of the French. After his death, Lorenzo's mother decided it was pertinent to distinguish themselves as separate from her late husband's philosophy. She took her son to Rome where they came under the protection of Cardinal Giovanni de' Medici, Lorenzo's uncle.

It wasn't long before the Meidici grasp on Florence was re-established. Giovanni passed his rule of Florence on to his younger brother, Giuliano de' Medici, as he had his sights on the papacy. But Giulianno was a frail man and had no legitimate children. It was obvious from the beginning that Giovanni merely passed the throne to his younger brother as a simple place holder. His real plan was for Lorenzo to claim the title. As the only legitimate male heir to the Meidici name, Lorenzo was well educated in all schools of thought and artistry. Giovanni and even Giuliano, made certain Lorenzo had the best of everything. They also made sure he remained humble. They did not want to see another disaster scar the Meidici name. They didn't need to worry though. Lorenzo had already told himself he would not become like his father.

When Lorenzo's cousin went to court in England as a possible wife for the king, King Henry sent a formal invitation to Lorenzo to come to England's court as well, an invitation his uncles told him he was not to ignore. If he were to be honest he would have wished to remain in Rome where he felt at home amongst philosophers and artists, people with a like mind. The aspects of court made him uncomfortable and claustrophobic. However he could not deny his uncle. There was, of course, another motive behind his trip to England. If Lorenzo was going to eventually rule Florence he needed to be able to fend for himself in courtly company. He was, in a sense, being tossed in to the deep end of a lake with hopes that he would swim.

Swim he did, though it was more like treading water. Lorenzo's intellect and artistic nature gave him a solid enough footing to handle conversations and his interesting, semi-scandalous background made him a point of gossip and interest amongst the more gossipy members of court. His awkward nature with women made it quite apparent that finding a wife would be a challenge, but fortunately he made impressions on the right people. He somehow struck up a friendship with the king who appreciated his rather naive honesty, a refreshing breath of air when everyone around you has a secret agenda. Lorenzo has none other than to be a better man and a better ruler than his father.

  • - - - - Roleplay Sample,
Simplistic is not a word anyone would ever use in the same sentence with Lord Nicholas Fleetwood’s name. However, it was something he tried very hard, as hard as a man like himself could, to portray. A typical leather protective doublet fit snuggly over a bright violet shirt and dark gray leggings. He’d made sure to wrap his sleeves so they wouldn’t snag or cause any unwanted interference during the match. The sword that hung limp from his side was only adorned with his cousin’s handkerchief. Truly, Nicholas could have taken any Lady’s favor from Ashton he wished, but the only one who held any clout was the one and only duchess. And Nicholas only represented the best. His boots looked well worn and not quite as fine as what most people typically saw Nicholas sauntering around in, but vanity to the side… for once… Nicholas was placing function over fashion today. He wanted to win this match. This was more than just his normal, everyday, personal insistence to be the best though. There were reputations at stake here.

Nicholas had never personally met the man he was to be dueling against that afternoon, but he had indeed heard much about him. Lord François Villon. He wondered if Lord Villon was aware that they shared more than just a similar reputation. Nicholas found such situations amusing, especially since most courtly women insisted on preserving their image of perfect virtue. Why… if he were a betting man, he’d wager most ‘Ladies’ were far bigger liars than he ever fancied himself to be. Hence the reason he didn’t get jealous over such things. Women were, after all, merely toys.

Right before the match, Lord Fleetwood found himself entertaining and charming some of said toys while he waited for his match to be called. All the while, he kept his attention halfway across the arena and on the darkly clad man whom had been pointed out as François. Nicholas exaggerated many things, but one thing he’d never exaggerated on was his skill with a foil. He didn’t take to many sports, but dueling was more an art, more like dancing with a blade. It was a rare activity he truly enjoyed that didn’t cause any sort of scandal. François, he heard tell, was quite good as well. It would be interesting to see, that was certain.

“What a morbid looking fellow…” Nicholas thought, as he sauntered to the center of the ring, “Hardly what I expected… still, I suppose he has a face…” He had an easy, relaxed smile pursed across his perfect lips as he signaled a salute and readied himself. Blue eyes hinted at his mischievous nature. He matched François’ stance, though it was not the most familiar for him. He preferred to keep his blade in close relation to his opponents when circling like they were.

A single brow arched at his comment, “I’ve not been had yet, Lord Villon,” Nicholas mused, “Though I can assure you… when it comes to fencing… my name implies much.” Nicholas was usually all talk, but not this time. The switching of hands was unexpected, and the break from the usual humdrum duels he practiced back in Ashton was well welcomed. His fancy footwork would be needed after all.

Nicholas did his best to dance around the point of the blade, shifting his grip nimbly around the simple, but well crafted handle of his sword. François was quick. Hopefully Nicholas proved to be a bit quicker. He sprang forward without any pause to make his counter attack, A swift, yet calculated thrust towards François’ right shoulder. Nicholas then slipped back, his sword ready to tangle against his opponents blade. Had he made the hit? His eyes were too focused on trying to foresee François’ next move to attack based on the man’s foot work than if his blade had actually met its mark.
