    - - - -  General Look, While her father never truly approved of her extravagant tastes, he could never deny that his eldest daughter had exceptional taste. Having learned the errors of gaudy fashion at a relatively early age, Vienna goes through great lengths to ensure her adoration for glittering jewels and fine fabrics do not take away from the tastefulness of her gown. With her makeup she is sparse, intending for the already appalling tones of her natural skin color to be kept intact.

Although she is aware that the number of Catholic Moors are even fewer in number with the Inquisition having come to pass, Vienna loves more than anything to combine the fashions of her mother’s folk with that of her father’s. Since her voyage to England she has experimented with a few British fashions, though not nearly so often that it draws additional [oftentimes negative] attention. Her lacking height also does well to allow her experimentation with many styles of footwear. Believing every woman of any worth goes about the same way, Vienna carries herself aplomb, eyes bright and full lips turned in smiles.

    - - - -  Overall Personality,
With her innate inventiveness for the arts she has always taken pride in the things she does. Writing, alongside reading, is her burning passion, as she is the only of her father’s daughters who has received an education similar to her brothers. She has revered the library as her haven [when she isn’t keeping her mistress company, of course]. A plate of sweetmeats are also a haven, but in a far different sense.

Vienna often never spares a grin nor an opportunity for inspiring conversation. "Life is our gift from the Lord", Renato, her father, had told her often. "You must make the best of what you have, sweet. Please Him and He shall never desert you." By such credence she has strived to go on living and it is no surprise to her that her very laughter brightens the atmosphere, wherever it may be. However, once provoked, she can prove to be the most dismal of individuals of which to share company. When infuriated she takes no care in being wary of her environment, whether she be alone or in the presence of others, and has been known to behave more than brashly. At her very worst she will go into a passive-aggressive phase of ignoring others, and will be rude simply for the irritancy of it all [she had this issue when first learning of her little sister’s birth. Discipline, however, did not fail to keep her jealousies unspoken]. Internally she struggles to keep her most calmed behavior—a not so sharpened tongue and forgiving nature—yet the fight seems at times to be futile. Holding grudges is no new prospect to the girl, though more often than not she may end up forgetting of the matter at some time or another. And though she may enjoy the brutality of drama simply for the sake of amusement, Vienna finds no joy in fighting dear friends. She is a desirous one, too, and entirely protective of what non-tangible objects of true value belong to her [she also is fiercely defensive of the emerald ring given to her by her father]. In her love she is passionate, her loyalty unyielding concerning friendships. Conversely, if she is betrayed in her trust there is no chance at regaining it. Once she has been double-crossed, Vienna will not hesitate to open her lips in gossiping retaliation. Her words are known to be as venomous as they are sweet.

If Vienna is not indifferent on her more lonesome days, she is overt in her affable character. In nature she is jovial, a blithe… frequently lazy… young woman who would rather run amok with her brothers and their friends than listen to a priest blubber during Mass. Procrastination could very well be keyed as her single greatest downfall, and though she may be keen on the thought of a completed task self-motivation could be lacking. The moment her will is set into motion, there is hardly any stopping. She is among the first to suggest playfulness in a somber crowd, giving reason to her adoration for children. While she does not enjoy praying incessantly as her mother always insisted, the Duke’s daughter knows when her time to show reverence has come. Occasionally she can be seen in confessional on her own accord.

Unless she is already moody, Vienna really doesn't like being alone. She craves the company of vibrant people, a significant component to her adoration for life at court. The only other setting aside from the arms of her loved ones where she never feels entirely abandoned is within the confines of a library, where the countless realms of parchment, novels, and quills are at her fingertips.

  • - - - -  Family Members,
Renato de Santiago, Duke of Medina-Sidonia [father : 52]
Tomasina de Santiago, Duchess of Medina-Sidonia [mother : 43]
Lucero Gezane de Santiago [brother : 25]
Justino Basilio de Santiago [brother : 23]
Aurelius Miguel de Santiago [brother : 21]
Emanuel Galtero de Santiago [brother : 14]
Alejandra Francisca de Santiago [sister : 14]
    - - - -  Overall History,
Born on a warm afternoon in early November, Vienna Lulita Joaquina was born to Renato de Santiago, Duke of Medina-Sidonia, and his Moorish wife, Tomasina. While Vienna was indeed the firstborn girl, she was far from the eldest child: three brothers-- Lucero, Justino, and Aurelius-- preceded her, each of whom were two years apart. With her unchallenged position as the Little Princesa of the house, the infant grew to be the apple of her father’s eye. While today she may very well deny it, the Duke’s daughter was nearly spoiled to the core, the rod serving as one of the sole preventions of letting her fall into the whirlwind of self-absorption. The only other assisting force may have been Tomasina, who was a modest and no-nonsense woman to begin with. Having observed the proud nature of her daughter from birth, many would venture to claim the Duchess of Medina-Sidonia never truly grew affection for Vienna. She was, in fact, the only child the Duchess refused to breast-feed after the second night of giving birth, insisting, “She wants more than I am able to give her. Let her to her wet-nurse!” It was the start of a life-long animosity between mother and daughter, and the footstool for an oncoming sibling rivalry.

Despite her fanciful pride, the Little Princesa was no stranger to the rough play of boys. The Eldest Three looked after their baby sister without fail, allowing Vienna to grow accustomed to the often misunderstood nature of the male sort. While this should not negate that she still cannot fully comprehend why it is men do what they oftentimes do, she has long since brushed away the shock factor most women express. While she could very easily have been shaped into a hard-handed sort of girl, Vienna’s trailing of her rambunctious brothers humorously reminded her of what to expect in other men. Besides, Vienna knew quite well when to cease her racing with Aurelius: she absolutely loathed the bodily odor of perspiration, a function that occurred to both men and women!

When she was five [Aurelius at eight, Justino at ten, and Lucero newly twelve], Vienna’s self-circulating world was shattered: her mother, now thirty, gave birth to twins. While the little boy, newly named Emanuel, was precious in her curious favor, her newborn sister was not. Alejandra was adored by Tomasina, an experience her two daughters never shared. However, after the unexplainable [at least, to the children it was unknown] separation their parents displayed shortly following the birth of the twins, the Duke did not show his youngest children the same sort of affection he held for the elder four. This therefore gave additional reason for the two girls to constantly be at odds with one another, for Alejandra always held her mother’s favor as Vienna had the Duke wrapped about her finger. To this day, the sisters cannot often make civil conversation without bursting into a quarrel.

Vienna was brought to court for the first time at the tender age of ten, she and her brothers following their father upon being called by King Ferdinand. Her exposure to the lavish lifestyle instantly drew about a desire to be surrounded by “beautiful people”, as she called it. The social life was much to her liking, and while she was not old enough to be fully emerged as she would have liked to have been, it certainly was enough to spur her hopes for the future. While she would return on occasions to visit Lucero and Justino [then nineteen and seventeen, respectively], the girl did not stay at court as often as she would have liked. At thirteen, however, she was inquired to join the Princess Infanta of Spain, Katherine of Aragon, in serving her as a lady-in-waiting, an occupation Vienna accepted with vibrant elation. Gladly the Duke’s pride and joy left her home in Segovia to join her brothers at court, her place as a lady-in-waiting allowing Vienna to decipher friend from foe and ally from acquaintance.

Upon Katherine’s marriage to Arthur Tudor, Vienna tearfully bid her family farewell and left with the Infanta’s entourage for England. In many ways she has enjoyed court in England, especially after the ordeal with Henry VIII taking the throne. While she did mourn with her mistress for the loss of her husband, there was no doubt in her mind that the godly woman had consummated her marriage with Arthur. Such thoughts, however, she has always kept to herself. After all, what good would it do her if her opinion kept her mistress from becoming queen?

  • - - - -  Roleplay Sample,
“Beauty..." Darius had sounded as though he was pondering the credibility of such an adjective of her character. Absurdly amused, she munched on another date, watching him with bright, dastardly mirthful eyes. "As 'beautiful' as your people are, it is interesting that so many of you elect to take Romans for lovers. Power often trumps beauty. Ask the aesthetes of Greece."

What words!

"I rather notice that power is infatuated with beauty," she countered invitingly. Nefertiti savored the fruit a moment before taking another. "And many men, Roman and Egyptian alike, who swim alone in their influential status tend to overlook the fact that what is lovely has the potential to be quite venomous. Every rose has a pricking thorn, after all." The young woman certainly could not adhere this statement to every lady under the sun; for one, not all were so lovely to look at in the face. However, there were the rarities who had as much intelligence as they did prettiness.

Nefertiti had discovered this quite early in her life. Now was no exception.

She cleared her throat quietly. "I should also say what is darker intrigues the paler of complexion. I have no preference to a man of Egyptian or Roman descent, for it's the brain that makes the greatest difference. Any Greek philosopher can tell you so. I've not seen an Egyptian man any more brilliant than a Roman, have you?" Leaving the question temporarily unanswered, Nefertiti sipped silently from her goblet. The wine cooled her tongue.

The boy seemed unphased, an admirable trait. It was apparent he could maintain a faithful countenance even whilst in conversation. "But forgive me. I said 'Your people', but you are half Roman, too, aren't you? Beauty and power. But beauty wins out in you, I should say, because you look entirely Egyptian to my Roman eyes."

"I am quite dark."

After stealing a glance from her betrothed, Darius set his gaze back to her. Nefertiti offered a smile, relishing another piece of fruit without savoring its taste. This queer thing of a boy was more fascinating than she had at first realized. He was far too much fun to play with to simply ignore!

"Tell me, Nefertiti. Do you find that you associate more strongly with either of your halves?" The inquiry struck her as uncanny, yet she considered it thoroughly. "You live in Rome, I know, but you have such an Egyptian look and I'm sure people treat you as a foreigner on first glance. People are doubtless taken by such an exotic look."

The emphasis on her "exotic" appearance tickled her argumentative tendencies. "That is a fair question, I suppose," she agreed, laughing some. She set the wine down, letting her fingers observe the carvings with her sensitive touch. "For most of my life I saw myself as Egyptian. My father and I have never been...", she quickly searched for the proper term before saying, "civil with one another enough for me to develop that appreciation for my Roman blood. He was merely the man who sired me. Now that I am a great deal older and have been under my grandfather's care for these last several years, however, I have learned to embrace both traces of my bloodline. I am of nobility nonetheless, whether of Isis or Juno is no matter.

"And it certainly depends on your definition of 'taken', dominus. I am afraid many women find my dark skin and even darker charm rather... intimidating." She popped the fig into her mouth.

An inquisitive boy, that he was. Perhaps it would do him good as the Caesar of Rome.

I LOVE your application! I love the detail--every tiny thing down to the fact that her brother was 'newly' twelve when her mother gave birth to the twins. You know this character so well. And also the writing is superb! Seriously, I'm impressed. Plus I've never seen anyone play Nefertiti, which is just awesome.

There is one thing I will ask for a change on, and I hate doing this--in fact, I don't know if I've ever done this, because I hate when I'm asked to change my pbs. But Beyonce would work for an African American character, not a Spanish one. There's just too much of a difference between the two races, and everyone looks at Beyonce and immediately knows that she's an African American singer, which shatters the illusion that the woman in the picture IS Vienna, which is what we're all investing in, isn't it?

There are plenty of drop-dead gorgeous Hispanic women who'd have plenty of pictures for you to us. Try Eva Longoria Parker, Penelope Cruz, Monica Cruz, Roselyn Sanchez, Eva Mendes, Salma Hayek, Jordana Brewster, Marlene Favela, Sofia Vergara, or Paz Vega.

Again, I'm really sorry to ask you to change this. I promise we're not that type of site who puts restrictions on everything you do.

Oh, and btw: can you please add the "de" to her username? It's bothering me immensely, and I forgot to ask for it in the first place. :]
