- - - - - Eye Color, Brown
- - - - Hair Color, Brown - - - - General Look, Though every bit as much a Boleyn as Anne and the rest of her family, she's as different from them as night and day. Her features are defined, and have the potential to be just as proud and seductive as her sister, should she find it in herself to behave in such a way. As it is, Mary is easily the gentler of the two, and it shows. It takes a good deal of effort to keep her head up when she walks, though her spine is straight and her shoulders back like they should be. She moves quickly and does little to draw attention to herself, hating to be in the limelight.
Being the younger girl, she usually recieves Anne's cast-offs to wear, which means that the dresss are far finer than ones she would choose for herself. She doesn't care much for glamour and indulgence, and would really prefer to just remain at Hever and not bother with Court at all. Well, she would if she wasn't madly in love with the King, anyhow. Unable to wear a mask like the rest of her family, her face is never carefully empty, showing what emotion is proper for the situation. She's expressive and emotional, and one needs only a glance in her direction to tell what she is feeling. This often gets her into trouble, and causes her to be quite a disappointment for her family.

- - - - Overall Personality, Quiet and shy, Mary prefers to blend into the background, much the opposite of her sister, Anne. She’s not one for fame and glamour, though the fortune seems an unavoidable fact of daily living. Being drawn to the simpler things in life, she would adore to find a man who loves her and settle down with him in the country. She’d trade a life at court for that of a peasant in a heartbeat, and often grows weary of the continual masks and drama required of the court life. Ever the hopeless romantic, she dreams of the day her knight in shining armor will come to sweep her away, usually irritating those around her with her naivety.
Those most irritated with her are her family, who cannot understand why she finds it so difficult to hide her true feelings and play the game. Thought she tries her hardest to do what her parents expect of her, she usually winds up making a mess of things in some way or another, much to everyone's dismay. Lately she's been put under her sister's tutorage, trying to learn the ways of deception, and court life in general, really. To this point, she's failing quite miserably. It's almost as if she's trying too hard, forcing herself into a mold she doesn't fit, and it shows. Her own frustration is being added atop the pile, creating quite a lot of tension in the Boleyn family circle.
Mary desperatley wants to become better, though, if only so she can catch and keep the King's attention. Several motives drive her in this purpose: winning her parents' approval, knocking her sister from her pedestal, and, most of all, her love for the man. She's never even met him, but the depth of her feelings make her head spin, and she's kept up at night thinking about him. It sickens her to know that unless she can become more like her sister, her chance to have him will slip through her fingers, creating a cycle of dseperate determination and bitter frustration inside of her.
- - - - - Family Members,
Sir Thomas Boleyn, Father Lady Elizabeth Boleyn, Mother Anne Boleyn, Sister George Boleyn, Brother Thomas Howard, Uncle Catherine Howard, Cousin - - - - Overall History, Mary was the last child born to Thomas and Elizabeth Boleyn, dashing hopes for another boy. She quickly came to be the favorite of her mother, her father already preferring the older girl, Anne. She grew up in the background, always outshined by her older siblings and essentially told that she couldn’t amount to anything in life. She grew used to always being second best, following in her sister’s shadow and doing little to draw attention to herself.
The same held true when they were sent to France, Mary following her sister across the Channel two years after Anne was sent. What she found nearly killed her of shock. While Anne had always been a cunning, calculating girl, this power she held over everyone around her seemed to have amplified tenfold over the course of the two years she'd been away. Every man in the room was spellbound, every woman donning a jealous sneer. Was this really her sister? Again, she took her place in Anne's shadow, quietly doing what was asked of her by the French royalty and staying out of Anne's way. It was best, in the end.
Both girls were called home when the elder King showed signs of preparing to pass on, preparations being made to welcome the new King. Mary, for one, was grateful to be away from the wild, scandalous French court, longing for the English countryside and her beloved Hever. It was upon her return that her own inadequacy was thrown in her face by her parents, egged on from the background by Anne. Apparently, it was their desire that she should get herself in the King's bed, a plan to which she held no objection. It was no secret that young Henry had caught her attention; she hung on every word spoken about him, and was often caught on her own with a far-off look in her eye when no one needed anything from her. The question was, would she be enough to tempt him?
At present, the answer is a painful and resounding no. Which is why Mary was directed under Anne's wing, sent to court with her elder sister watching her, to guide her every step. There was no room for failure, no second chances in this game of cat and mouse. A single misstep on her part could send the entire family crashing into ruin. Surely she won't make a mess of a stiuation which calls upon her one strength? Right?

Mary paused in her sewing at Anne's comment, biting hard on her tongue to keep from making a scene. 'It's what she wants,' she thought, blinking tears away. 'Don't allow her to provoke you. If you just ignore her, she'll eventually run out of things to say.' She repeated this like a mantra, convinced that the more she thought it, the sooner it would be true. Not being in the mood to quarrel with her sister, she focused her attention back on her sewing, taking measured breaths in and out. This calmed her quickly, allowing her to tune out her sister's snide comments and make an effort to remain unaffected.
Until Anne's next quip, that is. That stung far worse than anything Anne could have said. In all truth, Mary was in love with Henry. Far more than she thought she would have been. Any rumor about the King's ability to charm any woman he chose were all true, and his charms had worked their magic upon Mary from the very first night he had spoken to her. "Don't presume to know how I feel," she snipped back pitifully, not looking up from her work. Her attempts to ignore her sister and end this futile squibbling were lost with that simple phrase. Those few words were enough to alert Anne to her feelings and open an entirely new realm of rivalry between the two. 'Wonderful. Simply wonderful,' Mary thought dismally, looking up when the doors were opened.
A new maid had arrived to court, from France, anyone could tell. If not from her style and way of carrying herself, any hope of blending in was lost when the young girl spoke. Mary could also tell that this girl and Anne would either be close friends or the bitterest of enemies. Sighing quietly, she went back to her sewing, doing her best not to draw attention to herself. She sensed that this young girl would also be a source of torment for her, being so similar to Anne in demeanor. God, it seemed, enjoyed plaguing her with troubles. Did it ever end?
