Actually, I think Ranma can be more fun when his depths surprise you. And the only reason to have Akane surprised by him is if she's going to be important later in the story. Given the source for the crossover, I would guess that Ranma's not going to be coming home, so why bother with the Akane scene. Having Ranma know history can come out in the main story and kind of fits the character, since he would be more interested in famous warriors.

I wasn't aiming so much for a WTF!Akane, well except for the "Where in the World is Ranma Saotome?" part at the end, but I wasn't quite sure how I could extend it. But yeah, I wasn't aiming for a WTF!Akane, just one somewhat unaware of the true depth to Ranma.
"WTF!character" is my catch all for any event/knowledge spammed unknowingly on that character, including surprise, shock or in this case ignorance of Ranma's true depth. It's effectively all the same regardless of the intention.

I agree with DS as well. It's a wasted scene unless it has direct relevance to Akane later, and it doesn't sound like it will per anything you've related so far; again, no payoff for the reader. I would have guess Ranma coming home eventually with enough character evolution in tow for substantial amounts of WTF in the present day. Assuming that's the case, you don't need to front load it with knowledge spam. In fact, I suspect you'll be devaluing the either one or the other by doing so...

...Hey, Ranma has sudden and abrupt hidden depths.
versus
...ZOMG RANMA IS SUDDENLY AN ANCIENT JAPANESE WARLORD LEGENDARY HISTORICAL FIGURE OC WHAT HAPPENED?!

Alright. That's all I'll say on the matter.
Get back to writing.
Or else.

Well, I actually have no clear idea on whether or not Ranma will return to the present, because I'm don't know if that has happened, or will happen, with the Oda Nobuna canon. And that was another part of that scene, the little bit of the tag turning to dust and stuff my attempt to give a reason for the transportation, and a way out.

As it stands right now, I'm not sure if I want to have Ranma go back or not, but I'm leaning towards the not. Once I decide I think I'll rewrite things a bit, either giving Akane a more expanded role, or cutting that section out and fleshing out Ranma's arrival into the battlefield. Maybe I'll go flip a coin...

I'm sorry to say that i dismissed this story at first when i saw it posted on this site. I agree with Ozz about the whole opening scene with Akane not really doing much for the story.

But i just caught the story's release on FanFiction.net and i liked what i read.

I'm not familiar with the series that you're crossing with Ranma but in a way that's a good thing as i am not dealing with any expectations of canon and just enjoying the story as it develops.

I am not familiar with the crossover but it is well written.

However, it feels a little like a set up for the fiancée situation in a historical setting.

Not sure what to think yet otherwise.
