"...And that if it gets bad enough, I black out and go cat myself." The martial artist shook her head as Setuna drew the answer out of her. the question was plainly visible in her eyes, so Ranma elaborated. "It's a berzerker state, completely instinct driven. Anything perceived as a threat gets shredded."

"Shredded?" Konatsu tilted his head curiously.

"Shredded. As in sliced apart by meter length ki talons." Ranma nodded solemly. Konatsu blinked, taken back by the answer and even Setsuna's eyes widened. Ranma noted the reaction, letting a terse chuckle out herself. "Yeah, like that."
You may want to set a different length for the claws - meter long claws seem a bit much; almost literally arm's length. Perhaps 20 cm/8 inches?

"What's your... tolerance?" The guardian of time asked, carefully probing the width and bredth of her companions psychological impediment.

"I can... function around the smaller ones," Ranma picked her words carefully. "Larger ones I ain't so good with."

Talk about an understatement. ^^

You look exactly the same as the day you left the Silver Millennium and trust me when I say you made quite an impression

Most ominous. I got the impression that Ranma will end up having the same problems as Harry. Since Harry is 'The-Boy-Who-Lived and Voldie is 'You-Know-Who' or 'He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named', what will Ranma be called? 'The-Girl-Who-Saved-Us-All'?

Hi, Ozz. Question: If Ranma were to go cat during this time, would he end up in Setsuna's lap?

I would think that Ranma's fame goes a bit beyond that, She saved their civilization, was the last named Guardian of the Realm, fought a demonic sorceress, and when she was a moment from killing Beryl she dissapeared to never be seen again, that would make her a legend.

Since she's currently the person he trusts most, probably.

It's been millennia since the Fall - given the tendancy for details to be lost to history, yet have other details distorted, plus the sheer amount of time for it to happen in, I don't think it'd flow well to have some random person to pick Ranma out and identify her as the historical figure. As opposed to Harry's bit, which was only some 13 or 14 years earlier - so most of the people who were actually involved in that are still around.

That being said, Ozzallos does seem to be pushing in that direction. On that note, I think it seems more likely that someone Ranma met from the Fall is still around. I'd bet Avril, as the Ravenclaw ghost - Avril specifically mentioned 'not wanting Ranma's talent to be wasted on combat arts', which could give a reason for her to stick around, paired with the (IIRC) blank slate Ravenclaw ghost...

The only thing is, Avril doesn't know that Ranma is still alive or that she get pulled back to her own time. As far as the refugees that got through the gate before Serenity sealed know, all the defenders on the Moon (Serenity, the remaining Guardians including Ranma) died while defeating and killing Beryl. Otherwise, they would have rejoined the refugees on Earth after the final battle.

I would not mind seeing Avril as the Grey Lady of Ravenclaw House, however, there is a canon explanation as to her origins. . . unless of course Ozz decides to chuck that out the window. ^^

She wouldn't know how the final battle ended, true. But she did know Ranma was temporally displaced - and given the not insubstantial awe she displayed at Ranma's combat prowess, it's possible (if kinda arbitrary) that she'd wind up with an unshakable 'Ranma will survive' belief. It's weak, but it's the most plausible way I could think of to justify her staying around in some form.

As for the Ravenclaw ghost, it was a convenient way to bring someone from the Fall, up to the modern era. Though, it was either the ghost, or an animate portrait - and I thought the ghost would keep more options available. Still, that link would explain why I didn't recall any use of the character - I never read the 7th.

Either way, it's all still conjecture, possibly reading in too deeply anyways.

Maybe you could have Avril as a ghost, with a spiritual link to Ranma. Maybe the hero worship she had could have lead to an invisible bond that will activate once they meet again.

"What is your... tolerance?" The guardian of time asked, carefully probing the width and bredth of her companions psychological impediment.

"Some days I can stand a few dozen, others... just one," Ranma picked her words carefully. "It ain't just seein' one though. Takes more than that."

"Then we'll just have to work around it, then," The emerald haired woman nodded solemly. "But just as a precautionary note, Hogwarts will have cats. Will that be a problem?"

Ranma's cheek twitched. "As long as nobody--"

"Tickets please," An elderly man in a double breasted red suit

The tickets were relinquished one by one and all three stepped aboard the train with only the most coursorary inspection of their person. The trio boarded the car, threading their way through the bustle of students stowing their gear in the various compartments until final coming to their own, retreating from the bustle of the car's public walkway. the windowed door closed with a click and the noise beyond subsided, sealing the travellers within.

The red head lookd around expectantly. "That's it?"

"You were expecting something more?" Setsuna asked, sinking into one of the padded sofa seats.

Ranma continued looking around at the apparently solid train. "Well, yeah. All this talk about stuff being outta phase... Thought we were boarding a ghost train or something."

"Hardly, though I can see wear the misconception would stem from," Setsuna shook her head patiently explaining the concept to both Ranma and Konatsu. "The easiest way to think of phased reality is to liken it to a multi-laned highway. The station we just walked out of is in one lane while this train and its platform are in another lane."

"But wouldn't we crash by switchin' lanes?" Ranma asked, tenously feeling his way through space-time theory. "I mean if another car were in the lane?"

"The lanes exist as ghosts to the other lanes," Setsuna continued. "You can pass from lane to lane regardless of the traffic without crashing, nor can one lane see the other in most cases."

"Is that why we can't see the other train station?" Konatsu asked, staring out the car window. Another steam whistle sounded and the last of the passengers beyond rushed for the train. The Mistress of Time nodded, affirming the observation while Ranma cocked her head, working through the logic herself.

"So Serenity-chan was sendin' people down here out of phase so they couldn't be seen?"

"Exactly," Setsuna rewarded her with a smile; a smile that lost energy with her next words. "It was a gamble, however. Phased reality would protect the refugees from lesser threats, but had Beryl survived..."

"It wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference," Ranma concluded with the obvious point. The whistle screamed again and the world lurched beneathe their feet as if to punctuate his statement. The engine rumbled as its iron wheels gained purchase on the tracks below, slowly pulling its mass forward. Steam poured away from the engine car's chimney as it strained with the effort, clearing the station at a labored crawl.

Ranma sat back and relaxed, already a veteran of numerous train rides herself. Konatsu, on the other hand, was all but plastered against their plate window, watching as the scenerey passed and letharically picked up speed. Setsuna had already tuned the window out, having pulled a book out to read. The redhead peered over at the emerald haired woman, now forcibly reminded that she hadn't brought along anything to do... Not even a deck of cards, she groused, looking around the compartment untill spying a rak of magazines at the end of her couch. She slid over to it, picking one out at random. Good as anything else, I guess.

Her hand reached into the stack and happened upon a newspaper first. Without a particular care as to what she had grabbed, Ranma pulled it out with little fanfare and unfolded the crinkled parchment. As expected, the block headlines were in English, which she stood some reasonable hope of translating. What wasn't expect was the pictures, specifically fully animated black and white pictures that quite literally moved across the paper. The redhead stared, entranced by what was effectively a short reel movie before moving on to the headline.

'Azkaban's Sirius Black Still at Large!' She translated slowly and began to skim the article. The most she could discern was that it was something concerning an escapee from some prison, but that was as much details as the martial artist cared to milk without thoroughly committing herself to the task of a full translation. The picture began to move again and this time Ranma took note of the details as it showed some man- obviously a prisoner as indicated by the wrist and leg chains -being led out of a court room. Sucks to be you, Ranma snorted mentally and flipped the page, already eager to watch more of the animated headlines. the next page all but leapt out at her as ads began to animate wildly with the main headlines, all vying for her attention.

She blinked and turned attention to the window that Konatsu still watched, noting the scenery moving along at a nice pace now. The kunoichi turned away from his view for a moment, glancing back at Setsuna. "How long will this trip take?"

"Exactly six hours, thirty eight minutes, fifty one seconds..." She paused, noticing both neo-girls staring. "Um, about six hours. Sorry. Force of habit."

There isn't a cannon stated time of how long it takes for the train to get to Hogwarts, but considering that it leaves London around 11 in the morning and arrives at Hogwarts around dinner time, then six hours is a good guestimate.

It's a fairly long trip. They leave the station at around noonish, and it tends to be dark when they arrive at the castle. Also, placing this at book 3, Ozz, so that's be 1992-ish?

Talk to Rowling, not me :P Why these kids even have to take a train is beyond me, but the trip IRL to Hogwart's approximate location (Edinburgh) is a solid 8 hours. I've shaved off 2 because the Express is a magical train :\

Actually, IIRC the canon reason they take a train is because the school has wards on it to prevent magical transportation into it. Or out. The train is also the most efficient way of moving the mass of students who aren't trained in magic.
