Just as the Instructor finished listing off names, Otoko came through the class door and couldn't help but pause in awe at the sheer size of the room. Never had she ever seen a room like this before. It was amazing. She did not want to interrupt the Instructor any more than she already had, so she gave him a bow then moved to sit. She recognized a few students in the class, Von, Drizzit, Loki. Thrist, the pretty red haired woman and the voluptuous woman with bad hair. She would have gone to Von first, but seeing who his company was, she decided not to. Loki was her next best choice. He sat alone at the back of the room, his eyes closed. She gave him no greeting; she did not want to disturbed him. She then turned to face the class. |

Koios' attention was suddenly caught by someone who seemed like an instructor. Well, the only reason for this assumption was the fact that he was doing role call. Looking around at everyone in the room and listening for his name, he felt a little out of place when it wasn't called. "Anyone who's name I did not call, would you please come to the front now?" The man's gaze was on Koios briefly. 'Well, I guess that means me. Should have expected as much, seeing as how I'm so late.' he thought to himself. Walking up to the front, past where he decided he'd sit, he contemplated picking up his things, just in case he was asked to leave. He didn't. Coming up to the instructor, he crossed his arms casually. "Sir, my name hasn't been called. I think I signed up recently. I'm not sure, I'm not that much of a reader." He dropped his arms to have one hand rest on his side and the other stratch the back of his head nervously. "My name's Koios Starscream. I just got here not very long ago. Speaking of which, I still don't know where I'd be sleeping, would you happen to know?" |

Drizzt was observing as some of the students where discussing and some just sitting there looking around. Then a man holding several panes of glass, and various scrolls, sheets; and books. Entered the class room, Drizzt knew at once that this was to be his teacher. Then he said 'Good morning, class. Please, be seated if you are not already.' By the sound of his voice, and by the look on all the face of the students in the class, once he entered. Drizzt thought it was about time he arrived. He was almost ready to fall asleep. He was even thinking of finding someone to talk to. Then he said 'We've got to get through the role call.' Role call what in the nine hells did he mean by that. Then he started to saying names out loud. Drizzt thought maybe he was making sure that his students where present. Then when Greiver was saying the names on the list he stopped at some of the few students that he knew. Drizzt then he heard Greiver say is name out loud. Drizzt answered by getting up and saying '' Here.'' Then he looked as Greiver continued down the list. Then he called ' Set, glad to see you in my class this year ' Drizzt looked around the class room. His suspision was confirmed once he noticed who it was. It was the red haired girl. Then once he finished one of the students got up and said ' Sir, my name hasn't been called. I think I signed up recently. I'm not sure, I'm not that much of a reader.' then a short while after the same student said something again. But Drizzt put no thought to it. Then he waited for the lessons to begin. But he knew that they wouldn't start any soon. The late arrivals probably have a few questions to ask. |

Startled by the sudden appearance of the instructor I quickly quieted down and walked to a seat near the front. Not really even noticing where anyone else was sitting. My name was soon after called as I settled myself. I replied with a simple wave of my hand that apparently worked because he moved on to the next person. After I was settled I took out a piece of parchment paper and a short quill, it was nothing extravagant simply small and brown. Then, looking up, I waited for the lesson to start. |

"Loki is quite the person to talk about, isn't he." Pause "They truly don't look like fighters." Drestia smiled at his comment. Instead of looking back at them when he did, she studied his eyes. She saw flickers of emotion but she didn't attempt to name what they were. His eyes were quite an interesting color. They were red and yellow, swirled together. The scar on his face just made him seem more... manly. This impressed her especially when most of the guys she had seen thus far seemed feminine. She liked his appearance. She nodded her agreeance at his reply. While thinking of an answer that wasn't nasty to the girls, another boy walked in, soon followed by Greiver. "Good morning, class. Please, be seated if you are not already." He walked down the center of the room, holding many things in his arms. She kept her face calm and her eyes down until he reached his desk. He told the class he was going to do role call. It's like the army... Drestia thought to herself as she looked over at the boy beside her to judge his reaction to the instructor. When her name was called she raised her eyes to look at Greiver. "Drestia, nice to see you." Is it really now? she wondered but said nothing, abrely listening to other names being called. The instructor called for any people who weren't on the list to come forward and the last boy to enter went up and rambled his answer. Drestia looked once again at Von to see what he thought of what was going on. Looking aroud, she noticed she was the first girl to pull out parchment and a quill. This brought a sense of foreboding into her mind but she kept her face clear and looked once again at the instructor. |

New students were filtering into the classroom. I was glad of my punctuality for the class. I was disappointed, however, that it would go unnoticed. Where the hell is the instructor? As if in answer to my thoughts, the instructor entered. "See for yourself," he announced. He stood at an average male height, and had hair quite similar to my own. I looked over to Drestia and saw her attention currentoly focused on the new comer. He was striding down the steps to the front of the class. He announced a roll call and proceeded to call the names of all the class members. I offered recognition when my name was called, but otherwise remained silent. "Anyone who's name I did not call, would you please come to the front now?" His voice was crisp and clear ,despite the slight echo that reverberated off the walls. "Oh! And hello Wedule, I see you're here." The thought of Wedule seemed to stress this instructor, where as Alan seemed to find him as a laughing matter. "Nice to see you," was the added comment. I caught the sarcasm and looked over to Drestia in the hope of any kind of human contact. Recieving none, I looked around the classroom to take my own count of who was here. I recognized Loki, Otoko, the guy with the panther, and ofcourse Drestia. I was unable to spot Mavrick. I hoped he wouldn't get in trouble for being late. But I then realized that I didn't recall his name being announced. why would someone not sign up for a class? We're here to learn, aren't we? I shrugged off the thought. One boy went up to the instructor to inquire about his absence on the list. After this, students seemed to settle themselves down, awaiting the start of the class. "I'm gonna take a seat if you wanna join me." I looked at her hopefully, then procedded to the nearest bench. |

A new student interupted his thought, as the other students hearkened to their names. The student stepped forward, and began speaking to Greiver. "Sir, my name hasn't been called. I think I signed up recently. I'm not sure, I'm not that much of a reader." said the boy. He dropped his arms to have one hand rest on his side and the other stratched the back of his head, sort of nervously. "My name's Koios Starscream." he went on, finally getting to the important part. "I just got here not very long ago. Speaking of which, I still don't know where I'd be sleeping, would you happen to know?" Greiver replied. "In the dormatory wing. See me after class." and then gestured politely for the student, Koios, to return to a seat. The pronounciation was proving more difficult for him then Unaussprechlichen did - and that name had a few twists in it. koy Os? co EYE os? Greiver wasn't sure, but it hardly mattered right yet - this was a classroom full of seated students. Not a training center full of worked up ones. "Alright!" Greiver began again to the class, stepping around his table now "Anyone who wishes to replicate any written works in class may do so. If you are in need of supplies to do that with, you may find them on my desk at the beginning of class. Take only what you need, and if there's nothing left, there's nothing left - but I see some of you are already well equipt." Greiver said, noticing Thist (the small blonde seated off in the right front row) pulling out parchment and quills from a bags she had apparently had brought with her. This was unusual - most students tended to bring a book with them, or a covering case to store their parchments in. But, to each his (or her) own. "If not, no worries. There is not a large written component to this course, but you are expected to remember at least some of what I say." "'cause if you don't, you're wasting my time." "As you may have noticed, there are not a lot of students in this course this year." Greiver turned, pawed the list off his desk, and turned around to face the class in front of his desk again, counting quickly the number of students in the class as it was now - according to the list. Counting by 2's, he came up with 8 - add Wedule and Koios, that made 10. "Ten of you, to be exact." Greiver dropped the list back onto the desk, and stepped over to the front row in a few small, slow steps, and paused, looking around at the nine faces looking down at him (from the back and center rows), and straight at him in the front row. To get the ball rolling, Greiver asked anyone who was paying attention (with a look at Loki) "Who here knows anything about the acadamy?" |

Drizzt watched as the teacher was done the listing and as he appointed that one of the students to meet him after class. Then he said ' If not, no worries. There is not a large written component to this course, but you are expected to remember at least some of what I say.' After a pause he continued 'cause if you don't, you're wasting my time. As you may have noticed, there are not a lot of students in this course this year.' Then he looked at the list, probably counting. Then he continued 'Ten of you, to be exact.' Then Drizzt also thought the class wasn't full either. Then Greiver asked an open question to the class. 'Who here knows anything about the acadamy?' Drizzt then got up and said '' Well the academy is a school where whe learn and I take it that you are the appointed one to teach us. If I may. What do you teach in your class. I'd like to know what I'm going to learn, and I think that well the other freshmen such as me would like to know. '' Drizzt was curious on what he was learning. Then he sat back down and waited for his answer. |

After hearing that they were allowed to right down what he said, Otoko pulled her writing case from the front of her obi. She pulled out a few sheets of thins parchment, her wetting brush and dipped the ink stick into the water filled well to darken it. She used the case as a portable table, resting her witting equipment on it. "Who here knows anything about the academy?" She honestly new very little of the academy; only that it was a prestigious combat school. She decided to wait and see if anyone else knew more than that. '' Well the academy is a school where we learn and I take it that you are the appointed one to teach us. If I may. What do you teach in your class? I'd like to know what I'm going to learn, and I think that well the other freshmen such as me would like to know. '' Well, he knew just as much as she did. His question was a good one. This classroom gave no hints to what the Instructor would be teaching, unlike Instructor Alderas's. She waited to hear his answer. |

"See me after class." Came the answer to Koios' question. The instructor made a motion for me to take my seat. He nodded, his hands remained in the same postion as he walked back to his seat. As he was walking, with his back to the front of the class, the instructor was saying something about recording his lectures. 'Well, that might pose a problem' Koios though. 'It'd be a bloody miracle if I could write more than my own name. I guess I'll have to just remember what he says.' Taking his seat, the instructor asked the class "Who here knows anything about the acadamy?" With Koios' complete lack of knowledge about the academy, he remained quiet as another student replied '' Well the academy is a school where whe learn and I take it that you are the appointed one to teach us. If I may. What do you teach in your class. I'd like to know what I'm going to learn, and I think that well the other freshmen such as me would like to know. '' 'That does bring up a funny point.' It suddenly dawned on him that he had absolutely no idea what any of the teachers actually taught, or where he'd be staying, or the rules in the school, or the names of anyone around him. He felt out of place. 'Shit, I can't even read. What am I doing at a school?' He had faith that eventually someone might help him. Even if no one did, he shouldn't worry too much, he was there because he ran from the military and couldn't return home. He slouched in his seat and squirmed his way to comfort. |

After Drizzt said his bit, I decided to add some of my own knowledge about the school. I raised my hand and when aknowledged, added: "The school is well known throughout for the high standard of battle trained students that graduate, some go off to wars, some stay and teach, either way, no one I've heard of has failed here." I finished and awaited Greiver's response to both Drizzt and myself. |

Drizzt stood up from his seat -"Weird." Greiver thought- "Well the academy is a school where we learn and I take it that you are the appointed one to teach us. If I may-" Greiver motioned for him to stop, that he may not. "You learn everywhere." But the boy went on anyways, much to Greiver's displeasure. "-What do you teach in your class? I'd like to know what I'm going to learn, and I think that well the other freshmen such as me would like to know." Greiver nodded to Thist, a "go ahead". "The school is well known throughout for the high standard of battle trained students that graduate, some go off to wars, some stay and teach, either way, no one I've heard of has failed here." Confused, Greiver stared at her for a moment, at her poor usage of the english language. "Riiiiiight." He stepped away from the front row, and stepped over to the left of the class, near the left-hand side steps. "A place to learn, and a place that's got a reputation for free-lance mercenaries?" he thought to himself, sadly. "That's not it at all." "Well" he continued "there certainly is an emphasis on the militant aspect to acadamy, but that's not all. I think it's best that we cover a bit of history behind the acadamy first." Greiver walked to the back of the class, and grabbing a torch off the wall, he picked up the first pane of glass; and put it atop the over-head projector. Putting the torch in the mirrored container, the over head projected an image of the province of Everland up to the front of the class, on the black board. The black board wath bathed in reflected torch light, and black lines that formed the boarders appeared in that instant. Several other lines appeared outside the outlines of Everland to show where the boardering provinces began. Several other little images, including symbols to represent certain towns, and the acadamy, were also shown in black. "This is Everland." he said, after a moment, beginning to return to the front of the class. Passing Loki, he tapped the desk near to his head, since he still appeared to be not paying much attention on his way past. "The centeral-most province in the realms. Geographically speaking, it's in the middle. Not much more I can say about that." He stepped down to the center row, right side, and looked down the row. "Politically speaking, Everland has quite a history to it." Quickly stepping down the last few steps to the front, he continues his lesson on the political history of the realms, and how they had to do with Everland Acadamy. "Necransia used to be the powerhouse of the realms. But about 51 years ago, their king died. Ever since, they've been in a steady state of decline, waging wars with the neighboring provinces of Candoth (Greiver pointed towars the upper left corner of the image - northwest at Candoth) and Gladiatia to the south. (pointing to the right of the image now, not really in the corner, for the corner was ocean) Generally speaking, current day Necransia is the most politically aggressive, but militarily speaking, they are the weakest." Greiver motioned back to the upper left side of the image, as he crossed in front of the class to stand on the left side. "Candoth has always been politically governed by the residing military of the day. Although historically they've been pretty passive in relation to the other provinces, ever since Necransia's former king kicked it, all of the Candothian 'politicians' (meaning the ruling armies since then to current day) have been unanimous in their common goal to both keep up the wars between the two nations." He paused, as students drew their own conclusions about what was going on in the world today. "Gladiatia is pretty much the opposite of Candoth. That's to say, instead of being ruled by the military, they're ruled by politicians, who command an equally brutal army. So being pinned between Candoth and Gladiatia is really beating up Necransia." Snow Peak really didn't have much going for it, Greiver realised. "Snow peak, to the south west (pointing) used to be big on sending small armies to pretty much all the provinces, but over the last 20 years or so, the people have decided they'd be much better off in a neutral political state, much like Everland - probably because life there's hard enough as it is. Everland has always been as politically neutral as possible, although at the beginning of the tri-provincial wars, Everland had been requested to take part by all three opposinging provinces." Greiver walked to the back of the class again quickly, and changed the panes of glass to show an image of the four provinces (Everland, Candoth, Gladiatia & Necransia), with images of their rulers from 51 years ago. Most portraits of the kings portrayed them as mad men, with angry faces with the lustful look of power in their faces. Candoth's representitive stood in a desert storm (as was the climate in Candoth) in royal dress, running through a soldier with a sword. Necransia's was portrayed with a bow and arrows; Gladiatia's a young boy bashing an opponent's shield with dual maces, with a background of rolling hills. Only Everland's king was portrayed in a non-violent manner, and he was portrayed as a judge with scales evenly weighted. "Everland refused the calls and instead, the king decided in counsil to build the acadamy. He knew that this war would do no one any good, and that because they were so desperate, they would become exceedingly violent and hostile. He felt that children and families should not be forced to live in that environment, and decided that not only would he build acadamy, but that he would create a place large enough to house refugees. However..." Greiver trailed. "...that king died before the acadamy was completed, and his son, now King Zolton, decided to use his fathers plans in a slightly... different, way." Greiver returned to his desk at the front of the class, and sat down, thinking how best to put it. The class was silent. Greiver put his feet up on his desk casually, and continued. "Not only would acadamy house refugees, but acadamy would also serve to create a standing army for the province of Everland, should the warring provinces turn on Everland, particularily on the refugees. Most misinterpret this fact, and the reputation acadamy has instead is that which you all seem to have now - that acadamy's only purpose is to train students for combat. This is not entirely the truth, but yes, it is a part of it. King Zolton, several years ago now, was approached by the counsil of nations and it was told that because the student body was consistant of citizens of their respected provinces, that should they wish to participate in the wars, they were not to be restrained." Greiver looked up and to the side, at the image of the mad kings projected above him. "It's been acadamy's unofficial goal - and this is strictly to be kept in class - to educate you all to think for yourselves, to learn what's actually out there in the world besides war and politics. I say educate for one reason, and that's because you learn all the time, but education happens in places like this; between people. So if it's learning you're after, the door is behind you." Greiver looked at the class, to see what their reactions were - and to see if there was any confusion. "If not, then take a moment amoungst yourselves to decide what you'd like to do first in the class, and then pick someone to represent your decision." |

The instructor (whom I noticed aparently hasn't given his name yet) began a lecture on the history of Everland and the academy after hearing the slightly misunderstood answers from the class. The lecture explained some of the hostilities between the neighbouring provinces and the reason for neutrality in Everland. After hearing much of how Candoth was governed by their military, Koios began replaying the horrors of the Candothian military life. How the higher rankings and the nobility made the rules. The 'meatshields' as they were called were beaten and tortured by the commanding officers for no reason at all. Koios hated Candoth with a passion. He was glad to be in Everland, the place of neutrality. He could get away from Candoth, live life as a refugee in the academy and become "educated" as the teacher so elequantly put it. "So if it's learning you're after, the door is behind you." The instructor stated. Those last words burnt in his mind. Koios was never after any learning. Education was much more valuable to him. He instantly decided to stay. Now it was just a matter of following his last instruction of discussing what we'd like to do first in class. Koios had never been the most social of people. He just looked around at anyone who might have paid attention to him. |

That 'brief' history of Everland Acadamy's purpose had taken well over fifteen minutes to explain! The Sun-Eyed Set soaked up this knowledge though, already liking the atmosphere in the classroom. Sure, it was very sit-and-listeny, but it wasn't a dragged out, painful experience like every other lecture type classes The Sun-Eyed Set had ever taken. Set felt like this class held a lot of promise, and that even with the amount of talking, it was actually going to be interesting. That over-head projector thing really added to the class! The Sun-Eyed Set looked at the projected image of the king of Candoth - how he stood in a sandstorm; in full royal dress; and in true unkingly form, fighting his own fight. Since The sUn-Eyed Set had come from, Set took a special interest in Candoth, although not so much the swords that were oh-so popular there. Holding her belts, Set cracked a smile as she felt one of many daggers looped in, and smiled a bit more as she looked over to the new student, Koios, looking like he had some deep-seated grudge going with something or someone. The Sun-Eyed Set looked at the instructor for a second (with eyes in hues of reds and oranges) and then decided to take action, instead of wait around forever for someone else not to do it either. "So what are our options, instructor?" The Sun-Eyed Set asked the instructor, who sat at his desk at the front of the class. Maybe if they knew what their options were, they could choose. That, and maybe if people talked to each other, they could make a decision about what to choose. But what if one of them wanted something other than the majority? Would it be a democracy, and majority would rule? Or would it turn into a violent outburst of violent opinionations? |

"Who here knows anything about the acadamy?" I didn't know anything worth mentioning, so I kept quiet. Wasn't he supposed to be teaching us? Twas the boy with the panther who replied. "Well the academy is a school where we learn and I take it that you are the appointed one to teach us. If I may, what do you teach in your class. I'd like to know what I'm going to learn, and I think that well the other freshmen such as me would like to know." I was curious, but this answer seemed completely irrelavent. One of the chattery girls from before was the next to speak. "The school is well known throughout for the high standard of battle trained students that graduate, some go off to wars, some stay and teach, either way, no one I've heard of has failed here." Great, I'm either going off to war or teaching students. The class was slowly led into a frenzy of historical facts. At the conclusion, the instructors final words echoed throughout the room. "It's been acadamy's unofficial goal - and this is strictly to be kept in class - to educate you all to think for yourselves, to learn what's actually out there in the world besides war and politics. I say educate for one reason, and that's because you learn all the time, but education happens in places like this; between people. So if it's learning you're after, the door is behind you." Through my peripheral vision, I noted a couple of students take quick instinctive looks back toward the exit. If I sought to learn, this was not the place for me... but if i sought to be educated. I worked it out to be no more than a droll play on words. he could view things differently if he wished, but one view was never enough to actually make something different. "If not, then take a moment amoungst yourselves to decide what you'd like to do first in the class, and then pick someone to represent your decision." What the hell was wrong with this guy? He didn't even have a lesson plan. These first impressions for the classes were doing nothing to comfort my choice of coming here. "So what are our options, instructor?" I laughed to myself. Betchya he doesn't even know. |
