Draenei Alignments

This is an inferred reference to offer some personality, cultural, ethical, and moral considerations to Draenei characters. While there hasn't been much in the way of 'official' lore in this regard, this is based off of the way that the background lore and current NPC actions relate to Draenei on the moral scale.

This goes by the 9-Point DnD alignment system, as that system is used in WoW RPG sourcebooks as well.

Part of the reason I write this is to encourage people to remember that the stereotype frequently pushed by people is not the only path for a Draenei character. Multitudes of different personalities are available for the Draenei RPer. To be a Draenei does not mean 'super good holy light lover'. This attempts to rectify the differences of alignments while still remembering the basic world and culture from which they come from, and how such characters might come about and believe without going against the traditions they are nurtured under.

Feel free to offer comments and critiques, as this is mostly inferred information based on what is available, and therefore is my opinion rather than fact. This is mainly to help open minds rather than say 'this is how things are'.

---On the Good Scale---

Overall, the majority of Draenei fall under good alignments. They are kind and compassionate to others, and willing to forgive transgressions even from their most hated enemies, such as the orcs. They foster communal relations with every other Draenei, and do not believe in greed or pride as a whole. A good Draenei is likely to help others without expecting anything in return, and sometimes without asking. They may not understand, but will accept, the cultures of other races.

Despite what many think, however, Good is not the natural disposition of the Draenei race. Draenei are good as a whole because of the sheer amount of effort and willpower they devote to it, and it is this reason why the Light permeates every aspect of Draenei life and action. For a Draenei to lose sight of the Light, and of helping each other and working for the common good, they risk falling to corruption, as the majority of their race did when the Eredar joined the Burning Legion.

-Lawful Good: The majority of Draenei fall under this alignment. While Draenei do not have government and law in the manner of human and other cultures, they are incredibly disciplined. They rule their life by traditions rather than chaotic innovation, and the struggle to uphold the Three Virtues requires extensive willpower. The very existence of a Draenei is one of constant devotion and discipline to the Holy Light, and therefore they are generally Lawful.

This can lead to problems in regards to doing new things, however. Few Draenei would ever disagree with anything Velen says, for instance, even if there may be some fault in it. Their artwork has been unchanged for thousands of years, because there has been no need to change from the established tradition. Being primarily Lawful Good has lead the Draenei to being very stagnant as a culture, as they are disinclined to break with their tradition and discipline in fear of traveling down the path of corruption.

-Neutral Good: These Draenei are fairly common. They are not as dedicated to tradition and order as other Draenei, but replace it instead with upholding good as a whole, not necessarily the Light. These Draenei will not worry about whether or not they should do something, but whether or not it is the right thing to do morally. A Neutral Good Draenei might willingly disagree with Velen if they felt that an action he recommended was morally wrong, and might even question the Naaru at times. To a Neutral Good Draenei, the Light is merely the best way to do good, not that it is literally Good. If the Light falters, these Draenei will remain resolute.

Many Broken fall under this alignment, as they have come to see that with their unique position, they can take a step back and look at things from a broader view. As the Light no longer binds them, they instead look at the world in terms of the good they can do for it. Shamanism is a direct result of this belief, as they saw that they could break with tradition yet still be upholding the virtues of good and the Light by embracing the natural spirits of the world.

-Chaotic Good: Being chaotic is rare among Draenei, as maintaining at least some discipline is necessary in their society. Because of the way in which everything is shared and good is done with no expectation, chaotic individuals would easily be able to manipulate such a society, and the fact that there are very few such cases is indicative of just how few they are.

A Chaotic Good Draenei is a Draenei who will willingly go against other Draenei and look out for the greater good above all. They wouldn't just disagree with Velen, they would deliberately question his leadership as monarchistic and prideful. They would point out the flaws in the society that might lead to danger, and seek to discover better ways to help others without worrying about dogma. Essentially, these Draenei take Good to the extreme. Everything is questionable, nothing is certain.

While Chaotic Good Draenei are more easily prone to falling into vices, they do represent one of the few forces of innovation in Draenei society. They will freely try and create new things, and don't care if they raise a few eyebrows or stir a few gasps. Bettering the society is what matters to them, not the way in which that betterment comes.

---On the Neutral Scale---

Neutrality is perhaps the least likely alignment among Draenei. Though the most common alignment amongst most other races, Draenei are far too extreme to risk neutrality. As Eredar, their culture lived a life of arrogance and pride and were overall neutral, and such action lead to their induction into the Burning Legion. Following that debacle, the Draenei swore to uphold the Light and good above all. Therefore, most Draenei follow the Light not just out of a manner of choice, but out of sheer necessity of life. To be neutral is to be at risk of corruption, the greatest sin. A neutral Draenei does not stay neutral for long. They will either intensify their devotion to the Light and return to the flock, or they will fall to pride and corruption. The few neutral Draenei that remain tend to be those who merely have a neutral net shift of alignment rather than actually being philosophically neutral. In other words, the few neutral Draenei that exist are Draenei who are morally good and seek to support their race and the Light above all, as a Good Draenei would, but use tactics and choices that are morally questionable and evil. Essentially, the rare Neutral Draenei is like Batman--a dark hero. But the true neutral Draenei who does not care for either Good or Evil is exceedingly rare.

Many Neutral Draenei are still good in thought, however. They are just less likely to act on good impulses without a second thought as the Good aligned Draenei. They might, for instance, believe that to give someone food without asking anything in return is good, but would be less inclined to give someone food if they chanced upon them themselves unless it is at no personal expense. In other words, what tends to separate a Good Draenei from a Neutral Draenei is that the Good Draenei tends to act on good thoughts regardless of personal expense, while the Neutral Draenei tends to act on good thoughts if they have something to gain out of it, or otherwise have nothing to lose by it.

-Lawful Neutral: These Draenei follow the Light's ways without necessarily feeling the warmth of it. They go through the motions of Draenei society but are at the risk of taint. They tend to exert uncomfortability in their communes because of their wholesale lack of care even when they attend every worship and do their jobs for the sake of others. They have essentially fallen into a rhythm. They would never break from this rhythm, but at the same time they don't know why they are doing it. Unlike other Neutral Draenei, these are less at risk of becoming corrupted by pride. They simply have no reason or desire to fall, but at the same time don't feel the joy of life exemplified by the rest of their society.

Some Lawful Neutral Draenei do cast aside the traditions of the Light, however, and instead fully devote themselves to some other craft, in particular magic. These Draenei, without the dedication to the Light to shield themselves from corruption, find themselves often teetering with pride, and many succumb to it. Their only defense is their dedication and devotion to their art above all else. They would be smart enough to realize that in time, they can become powerful, and that the quick paths offered by demons are unnecessary.

Not all Lawful Neutral Draenei are like this though. Some are just as devoted of the Light and tradition as the best of Lawful Good Draenei. But they have become extremists, crusaders of the Light. These Draenei would slay an orc on sight, with no provocation, not out of vengeance, but out of the desire to see their people protected at all costs. They will torture, maim, and defile their enemies if it is the most expedient way of defending the Draenei people. Most often, these Draenei are fully aware of their evil actions, but believe that the defense and protection of everything that they love and hold dear, and all the good of the world, is worth their personal sacrifices. They see themselves as the unloved defenders, the ones who remain practical so that the rest of their people do not have to share their burden. Generally, these Draenei will sacrifice their lives for the good of their society, because they realize that, eventually, their behaviour will lead to evil and corruption, and that, therefore, they must fully accept the role of selfless defender. They willingly accept being unloved and know that, when the slightest of thoughts of 'why am I doing this with no gratitude?' that it is time that they lay down their lives in one last defense of their people.

-True Neutral: The True Neutral Draenei is the Eredar of old. He has forgotten the Light and has no real particular care for traditions and discipline. What he cares for is merely getting by. He understands and accepts the traditions and good of his people, but has no real desire or reason to engage in it himself.

True Neutral Draenei are at risk of corruption. In place of the Light, they tend to look for other ways to dedicate their time, and, as it was 25,000 years ago, this way is often magic. Without the Light to guard their ambition and stem back the tide of arcane corruption, when they aren't forcing or willing themselves to give to others instead of themselves, these Draenei will become bigheaded and prideful.

True Neutral Draenei have essentially cast aside the Light in exchange for some other goal. Unlike the Lawful Neutral Draenei, however, they are much less dedicated to the path. If there is a more efficient way at realizing their goals, they will seek it. This makes True Neutral Draenei dangerously at risk of corruption. They lack both the dedication to the Light and the willpower to be capable of resisting the lures of darkness, and often fall. Even Chaotic Neutral Draenei are less at risk than True Neutral, because the Chaotic tend to question the offers given to them and are inclined to not go through with their decisions.

True Neutral is often known as 'Neutral Me'. True Neutral Draenei frequently fall to pride, and it takes only a push before 'Neutral Me' becomes 'Neutral Me No Matter the Cost'. The few True Neutral Draenei that exist are prideful but rational, knowing that it is wrong to do evil deeds to increase their power. Few can maintain this rationality over the course of the Draenei lifetime, however, and those who can tend to be Lawful Neutral, rather than True Neutral.

Like the Lawful Neutral Draenei, some True Neutral Draenei are dedicated to the cause of Good, but utilize vile tactics in pursuit of that defense. Unlike Lawful Neutral, they are more likely to lack the necessary strength of will to hold true to their goal in the long run.

-Chaotic Neutral: Chaotic Neutral is perhaps the least likely Draenei alignment. It both casts aside the Light and traditions, and essentially represents the Draenei who is completely at odds with Draenei society. Because of this however, interestingly enough, they are in fact less likely to be corrupted than True Neutral Draenei. Instead of dedicating their life to some art like arcane magic, a Chaotic Neutral Draenei is often at odds with Draenei society to the point of placing the goal of revamping or experiencing new culture and society above all. These Draenei are more likely to engage in activities with the other races, where they can explore the variety of different cultures freely and where they might find lifestyles more in touch with their own desires.

The Chaotic Draenei is essentially the Draenei Explorer. Instead of the Light, instead of the traditions, it is the absolute full use of their multiple-thousand-year lifespan that consumes their attention. These Draenei generally want to see and experience everything. They can take a long time doing it, knowing how long they live, and therefore do not rush things like a human or dwarf explorer might, but the result is the same--a desire to fully experience a very long full life. Such a Draenei does not tend to want to be hunkered down by a single devotion to the Light, and finds themselves utterly bored with the stagnant art and literature of their people.

Unfortunately, this curiosity does represent the biggest risk of corruption to the Chaotic Draenei. In that desire to pursue life's mysteries, eventually the matter of the Burning Legion and the dark arts will come up, and the Chaotic Draenei is usually the most likely to believe that they can handle it without being consumed by it. All they want is a taste, but, frequently, they get more than they bartered for.

---On the Evil Scale---

Though most Draenei will not admit it, as a whole, their race is, unfortunately, pre-disposed towards evil. The vast majority of the Draenei, of the Eredar, willingly accepted and joined the Burning Legion. The Draenei were the very rare few with the strength of will and the devotion to resist the temptations, and they have survived only because of maintaining that conviction for centuries. They know that the slightest slip, the slightest temptation, risk their complete and utter ruin.

This is because, ultimately, the Draenei are extremists. They fully devote themselves to their goals and, in the past, this meant using unsavory means of advancement. The Burning Legion Eredar still live by this creed, and the Burning Legion is thus run by the order of the survival of the fittest and dog-eat-dog.

A very, very, very few Evil Draenei are working for noble causes. They are the Neutral Draenei who used unsavory tactics but ended up with a net shift towards evil instead of remaining neutral. They know they have crossed the threshold of corruption, but they know there is no turning back. Some feel for instance that only through the Burning Legion can the Burning Legion be ultimately defeated. Ultimately, the end justifies the means, according to them, and they feel that they can and will atone after they have ultimately accomplished their mission. Because the fall to darkness is the absolute worst fate in Draenei culture, the few of these Draenei that exist are the saddest examples of their race. They know exactly what they endure, but endure it still, for the slight, dim glimmer of hope that the evil they do and the evil they are will mean something good in the end, even if only small. They know they are beyond redemption, but believe they must make the ultimate sacrifice for their people. Some of these Draenei cast aside the Light for the Shadow, the belief that by making themselves as powerful individually as possible, regardless of the personal cost, that they can change the world for the better. Almost all are wrong.

In general, Evil is universal among races. At the point that a Draenei has become evil, they are essentially little different from an evil human, or an evil orc. They believe themselves better than others, have few close friends or family, and are willing to do anything no matter the cost in the pursuit of their goal. To elaborate on the different examples of Lawful, Neutral, and Chaotic would be unnecessary as it would just be a repeat of the basic definitions of these alignments. The few differences that set some Draenei apart from other evil races are mentioned in the general overview on Evil above.

For the determining of Alignment, a good way to think about it is this:

1) Alignment is action, not thought. A person who thinks good, but doesn't act on those impulses, is neutral, not good. Same with evil. To be good, you must truly desire goodness, and actively work to achieve it.

2) Good means you are predominately good, not 100% good. You can commit an evil act here and there, but you will feel regret for it and only commit it as a mistake or as an absolute last resort. How you relate to and accept the things you do is what guides your alignment. A neutral person and an evil person would both regard a good or evil act vastly differently from a good person.

-Good commits evil acts only as a mistake or a last resort.
-Neutral commits evil acts if practically necessary for advancement of self or loved ones. If a good option is better, they will take it, but not if it requires too much work or sacrifice.
-Evil commits evil acts for the advancement of self or loved ones with no regret, sometimes even if better options are available.

Excellent explanation Dru. I am sure this will help a lot of new RPers find a fitting alignment for their characters.

Just to clarify:

As per the Story of Baerlon, he will not allow the Burning Legion (or anyone else for that matter) to harm the Draenei commune and will do anything to protect the traditional way of the world (Draenei perspective). He sees his own life as expendable in the big picture and hence have devoted himself to the protection of another life that he finds more valuable than his own (Isilra). Lightwise he still sees the Most Holy Light as the best philosophy to run your life after, but he will not hesitate to discard the virtues in a situation that requires so in order to fulfill the overall Purpose (the well-being of the Draenei).

That would make him the Unloved Defender (Lawful Neutral), correct?

Not yet. He'd still be Lawful Good I think. Falling to the point of Lawful Neutral is when he is willing and able to engage in torture and other evil acts in the pursuit of that goal. Discarding the virtues every now and then isn't enough to slip, it's when it starts becoming frequent to the point that they don't even consider regret over it that they would become neutral (and that can be either Lawful Neutral or Neutral Good, depending on if the Virtues being discarded are simple traditions or if it's moral treatment of the enemy etc).

Generally, if you're doing Good, you're going to be Good. If you're merely breaking the code a lot in favor of Good, that'd be Neutral Good. If you're using tactics that are considered 'evil' (torture, slaughter, etc), that's when it would be Lawful Neutral, or lower (tends to be a slippery slope at that point).

Everyone breaks the rules or commits a bit of sin every now and then, so that's not enough to change alignment. It's when they become frequent and no longer feel guilty over it that it is enough to change them. Good way to think about it is like this: If it is an absolute last resort tactic, then the person is probably still good. If it is an option right from the start, then they're probably neutral. If it's the preferred action even when better options are available, they're probably evil.

My Night Elf falls under Lawful Neutral or Lawful Good, I think. I remember there was a website with a quiz on it that tells you what your character falls under.

This is it.

Veyshnavi is Lawful Good according to the test:

A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. She combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. She tells the truth, keeps her word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion.

Okay, after RPing with a couple of the more active members for the past few weeks, here are my thoughts on their Alignments. I also offer a suggested Path for the character, as the Paths are something from the Guild Concept that we have kept aside for the moment but will be done later on.

These are my opinions based on RPing with people, and you are free to disagree with my assumptions. :)

Exaythe: Lawful Good
- Exaythe always seems to be trying to do the right thing, and is more than willing to forgive the sins of those around her. She has suffered some in her own time, yet she remains steadfastly devoted to the Light and tends to be unwilling to see any other belief. She will preach the Light to others and always find a way to justify the Light's position against any criticism. Even when she temporarily fell to shadow, she subconsciously blinded and told herself she was channeling the Holy Light instead.

She leans somewhat towards Neutral Good however, as she tends to get involved in other cultures a bit more thoroughly than other Draenei. She is still Lawful Good, but activities like marrying a human are a break of Draenei culture and tradition and slip her a bit towards Neutrality.

Suggested Path: Confessor. Her willingness to teach other races of the Light and forgive sins seems to suggest pretty clearly that she'd be a Confessor.

Zanadaar: Lawful Neutral
- Zanadaar is utterly sworn to the protection of the Draenei. He cares little for other races, and is absolutely sworn to eliminating the orc threat before it can become a threat again. Zanadaar however does not exactly hate the orcs, or at least it does not cloud his judgement, rather he is inclined to view them as a threat to the Draenei and thus necessary to be eliminated. He very rarely is willing to allow the chance for redemption as he believes it is foolish and will result in harm to the Draenei people.

He knows his actions are not often agreed with, but he does not care. He is sworn to his duty and to the Light, and will use whatever means necessary to protect his charges.

Suggested Path: Justicar. No explanation really, he fits the mold perfectly.

Baelana: Lawful Good
- Though Baelana's fairly youthfully happy and enthusiastic attitude might hint at a more chaotic disposition, deeper talks show just how sworn she is to the Light. In conversation she appears Neutral Good, but if push came to shove she would honor the decisions of tradition and the Light's doctrines over anything else. She seems to believe the Argent Crusade are the ones doing all the work in Northrend, and sees her allies as sidekicks rather than as equals. When told something is evil by a better of the Light, she tends to be willing to believe it utterly, just because someone devoted to the Light told her it.

Baelana is a good example of a non-stereotypical Lawful Good type. She is not uptight or zealous at first glance, and is perfectly able to get along with people and have a good, light-hearted time, but when the time for action and choice comes along, she is absolutely devoted to the defense of the Light, the Draenei people, and the traditions that govern them.

Suggested Path: Justicar. Though she is willing to see redemption in people, unlike Zanadaar, it only goes so far as her opinion. When the Light commands her to fight, she fights, regardless of her personal inclination, which will in fact even change arbitrarily to suit her new commands.

Vryndir: Neutral Good (possibly Lawful Good)
- I don't have as much experience with Vryndir as with others, but so far he strikes me as being light-hearted enough to fit into the Neutral Good rather than Lawful Good category. He does not seem to be as devoted to the traditions and direct doctrine of the Light as the others, instead he seems more likely to trust other people and allow them to seek redemption. He can certainly fight in the defense of the Light when necessary, but he does not seem to relish in it. He seems to rather want people to redeem themselves than be brought low and justiced.

It is possible Vryndir is more like Baelana, in that he acts more carefree but is truly zealous on the inside, but so far this has not been apparent to me.

Suggested Path: Confessor. As said, while he is willing to fight, he seems to prefer peace and would rather see redemption.

Veyshnavi: Neutral Good (possibly Lawful Good)
- Like Vryndir, I don't have as much RP time with Vey to really get a glimpse of her personality, but as a Shaman and from her arguments during guild meetings, she has appeared to be more Neutral Good than Lawful. She is more than welcoming of the cultures of other races, and moreso than most of the members of Ere Argus, seems to desire to ally with and come to equal terms with them. She seems to desire a healthy, peaceful balance, but one in which everyone is united under the Light's grace and at calm with the elements.

Again though, this opinion could change once more personal, deeper RP takes place.

Suggested Path: Seer. Though Vey does not seem to be overtly naturistic so far, she does seem to desire a sense of balance and respect between everyone, and this likely means in relation to the elements and natural world as well as the various cultures.

Sanara: Chaotic Good (possibly Chaotic Neutral)
- Sanara *regularly* questions people and choices, and is often against the status quo. She still seeks the health of the commune and the teaching of the other races the glory of the Light, but she is not as uptight on the traditions, and has no issue in merging the teachings of the Light with that of the spirits and even going against established order to try and find other, better ways.

In addition, she seems to enjoy sampling in other cultures and other lifestyles, but at the same time is relatively blunt when she does not agree with the actions of other people, even when this might put her in hot water. She dares to disagree with unity, something fairly rare in Draenei society.

Suggested Path: Seer. More or less an clear choice considering her obvious adherence to the elements and nature.

Drustai: Neutral Evil
- Though Drustai still cares about the Draenei, her motivation, unlike, say, Zanadaar, comes out of avenging the past rather than protecting the future. She is evil because she is more than willing to use all tactics available to her, regardless of the moral issue. She desires genocide and suffering for the orcs, out of vengeance rather than protection.

She is not evil in the sense of wanting to conquer the world or any such similar traditionally 'evil' stereotype (though she does want to see the Draenei dominate Azeroth and has her own lust for power, though that lust is first for the vengeance of her people and only second for her own gain), but rather in that she no longer regrets the evil actions she commits against all those she is prejudiced against, except perhaps at the back of her mind. She actively seeks to bring the same injustices to her enemies as she feels they have done to her and her people, and she does not care if they are actively seeking redemption--to her, they do not deserve to even have the chance.

Path: Justicar.

After reading what you wrote about Sanara, I'd say that Onelu is somewhat similar. She is extremely open-minded and interested about the brave new-world of Azeroth, and yet strives to gather up the past so that it can be remembered.

She likes to consign tradition to writing, so that it would not be forgotten... but at the same time she isn't a fervent adorator of the Light. She just accepts it as a major part of her life.

So I'm split. I'll do the test, see what it gives.

Hmm, I think that Exaythe is more of Neutral Good. She might appear Lawful because doing what is culturally-seen as Good, is quite often good. Other than that she has absolutely no qualms with breaking traditions, neglecting hierarchies in order to pursue some absolute good! a truly lawful character would not write hate-mail to Gurubashi Emperor or start an anti-council rebellion in stormwind!

Posting in a thread where the last post is from 2009 wouldn't be considered Threadnomancy, now would it?

*cough*

I found this a very enjoyable read, even though I disagree with some of your assesments, particularily those concerning the True Neutral allignment. That is to be expected though, since the True Neutral allignment has traditionally been a source of much debate. I choose to read this as possible space to move in when considering your character's allignment, rather than a "What-allignment-are-you" type of quizzdeal.

Even so, I would love for you to doing another allignment evaluation on the Draenei that are currently active in the guild. It doesn't hacve to be as eleborate as the gem above, but I'd like to hear what you have to say about some characters I've seen around; or hell, wether some that were active back in the days and are active now have changed!

Could be a fun experiment.

Drustai, would you be interested in doing another one of those fancy evaluations on the Draenei that are currently active in the guild? It doesn't need to be as eleborate as the gem above, but I'd like to hear what you have to say about some characters I've seen around; or hell, wether some that were active back in the days and are active now have changed!

Could be a fun experiment.
Hmm.

Okay.

---------------------

Sanara: Chaotic Good
Sanara has not changed at all since my previous assessment. She is firmly chaotic good.

Exaythe: Neutral Good
Over the years, Exaythe has shown that she does not just lean towards Neutral Good, as I mentioned previously, but is firmly in it. While she is devoted to the Light and traditions involving it, she does not care about going against things that she believes as firmly wrong. She often commits evil or criminal acts in the name of good, against the wishes of those around her.

Iliira: Lawful Good?
Having not RPed with Iliira for quite some time, I cannot say if this assumption is accurate. But she did seem to be rather unflinching and stern, not often going against established norms. I am unsure if she falls into the Good or Neutral category, though I'm inclined to say Lawful Good as she is not to the level that Zanadaar was. Iliira herself has listed Iliira as Chaotic Good, but I haven't personally seen anything that gives me that impression.

Celaeh: Lawful Neutral
Celaeh is devoted to and takes great pride in her magic, generally above the Light from what I often see. Though she can be somewhat flighty, growing bored and disinterested when topics do not concern her or magic, this does not necessarily mean a more chaotic disposition. Doing good also does not seem to be a matter of concern for her--she believes in it, surely, but she doesn't seem to really care about going out of her way to encourage it.

Larem: True Neutral?
She is innocent and good-leaning, but that does not stop her from being selfish and greedy. She acts in favor of those she cares about and doesn't really care much either way about anyone else. She tries to be a proper draenei, but ultimately the key word is 'tries'. She is not quite there yet. She is also not opposed to listening to her gut, and sometimes will use unsavory means to get what she wants.

Drustai: Lawful Neutral
Drustai's alignment has fluctuated greatly over the last few years, from Neutral Evil, to True Neutral, to Lawful Neutral, to Lawful Evil, and again to Lawful Neutral. Ultimately, she is lawful rather than neutral because, while she does go against the norm in many cases, she believes firmly in the necessity of order and control. She prefers to work by the system whenever she can, and often obeys the orders of authority even if she does not like them, though may go behind their backs while overtly still obeying the order. When she breaks the rules, she hides it, and feels shame for having to do it--believing that the system is wrong and in need of change rather than not caring about the laws themselves. She is also rather disciplined, struggling hard to contain the anger, rage, and hunger of her undead being and presenting a regal, controlled, elegant image.

In regards to her alignment on the Good-Evil scale, though Drustai tries hard to do and be good, she is very prone to selfishness, greed, pride, and arrogance. She sees the draenei as superior to all other races, and has willingly tortured and murdered innocent orcs as revenge for their race's massacre of the draenei people during the Orc War. For every step forward she might make, she often takes two steps back. This has caused her to cross over from Evil to Neutral many times, and prevents her from ever being truly Good despite her bouts of altruism.

Thelos: Lawful Good
A good person, but a bit blind in many ways. Thelos devotes himself to the Light as he was raised to follow it. He doesn't really care much about questioning it, nor about questioning Velen. It exists, it is good, it is what he has been taught to believe in, so he sees no reason why not to believe in it. He is also rather disciplined as shown clearly by his meditations, preferring to clear his mind and act without emotional bias. This often makes him unwilling to make the first step in matters, however, as he would rather let things come as they will.

Eneida: Neutral Good?
Haven't RPed with her enough to get a good idea. She seems to overall be good, though, without leaning towards tradition or towards the breaking of it.

Laraan: Neutral Evil
Laraan is often even worse than Drustai in her behavior. She commits evil acts on those she views as the enemy without a shred of conscience, and values the draenei above all the other races. On the Lawful/Chaotic scale, she is not strictly devoted towards 'appropriate' social behavior, often acting in ways that shock, surprise, or anger others, but nor does she lean towards breaking norms on a whim. She certainly strives to be disciplined, but her actions show that she often would sooner follow her gut than tradition.

Semirhage: Chaotic Neutral?
Haven't had much RP with Semirhage. But knowing of her problems with shadow in the past, as well as the fact that she has often seemed to worry about her own position in the world, strikes me as neutral. She also strikes me as chaotic, as she often does things that are rather contrary to societal norms without any real qualms. She might be true neutral, but my initial thought is chaotic.

Monrena: Neutral Good
Monrena seems to be an all-around innocent, good person. She doesn't seem to lean either towards tradition or breaking it. She is just good.

Nuraahi: Neutral Good?
I haven't RPed with Nura enough to get a firm reading. She does not seem, to me, to be tradition bound, but does seem to lean towards doing good. She could be True Neutral though, as there is a difference between opinion and action. She's expressed good thoughts, but I haven't RPed with her enough to see that holds true in action.

Another enjoyable read, especially the part about Drustai's allignment shifts. I always found that the D&D lingo can work very well to express some key ways in which characters can develop. It is also quite comforting to know that my character is diagonised as being alligned as how I intended him to be.

What caught my eye the most though is the absence of any mention of the guild's three paths. I take it this angle has been abandoned, then? At least formally.

Yes, the paths never really got used. They're a remnant from the guild's formation that never came into practice.

Also, while Dru's has ICly shifted, that was only really in Good-Evil. On Law-Chaos I simply never really knew where to place her... I've only recently determined for sure that she falls firmly within the Lawful category. On the Good-Evil scale, though, she has shifted back and forth between Neutral and Evil many times... she was at Lawful Neutral directly prior to the Path of Conquest campaign, but her treatment of the orc prisoners pushed her firmly back down into Evil. Since then, she's managed to make it back to Neutral, though it remains fragile.
