State mandated physical fitness testing; HELP HOW DO I GET OUT OF IT???

I have many reasons for not wanting to participate
1) I don't think it's any of the government's business
2) For me, physical activity usually means some sort of injury
3) I have better things to be doing
4) I just generally dislike phys ed and all forms of phys ed testing.

They give me the form to fill out and I just put what I need to get the 50%

It's not the numbers I was worried about, I just don't like it, furthermore, they check the forms over.

It's not that bad. You don't even have to pass, just participate. It's a federal law that you have to have X number of minutes in physical activity anyway, might as well put some effort in it. I don't like it either, but it's really not that bad, i think it's good that the government tries to stop the obesity rate.

As much as something needs to be done about obesity, it isn't the government's job, or their business. I don't think they have the right to mandate physical activity, much less what kind of physical activity. Some people aren't meant to run.

no, but it's a law that's been arond since Kennedy, and no one wants to repeal any of kennedy's laws.

Just put up with it. No one likes gym, just bear it, you can't get out of it unless you'er injured severely anyway, so might as well just deal. Life deals you some shitty things, just put up with it.

It's the principle of the thing. The fact that certain policies are implimented with the intent to do something beneficial, but in fact, are completely useless, if not detrimental, but aren't repealed because the intent was good and no one can figure out what else to do, it's just rediculous.

Does anyone remember the movie Hair? When that dude got papers he had to join the Army? Burn the papers and say you didn't get them..

How many hours do have to do fitness anyway? And I DO think it's the government's business. If many people are too fat, it will cost them a lot. You can spend that money on other things, such as (for example) poverty. There are still a lot of poor people around the world, or in America.

You know what happened? In the 1950's-1960's, the consumption society made its appearance. The government stimulated the consumption society and therefore people started to go all "Oooh chips.. Niiice" and ate way too much. The candy factories liked that, and started to produce more and that resulted into people eating more. It's a circle. Because the government stimulated the consumption society, I think it IS a part of their responsibility to get people to eat healthy again and not visit a McDonalds during lunchtime.

Just my 2 cents..

Yes, but thanks to Dubya and his band of buddies, we barely have those rights anymore.

As far as the Phys ed thing goes, in the state of NY its mandatory to have 7 terms of gym class as well as one term of Health education. So i feel your pain there.

of course the government could just let the morbidly obease handle their own medical expences, then it wouldn't cost the government a penny and those of us not meant to run laps could do something productive

This is kinda off topic...but along the lines of damn government making us do things we don't want to do:


I had a gym teacher substituite like a month ago and he grew up in new York and was like super-fit ( he played against magic johnson in high school basketball) and he was drafted for the war and hes like ohhh I don't want to go but he like when to the first thing to see if he was fit enough and he was so they gave him a week or two to get his stuff together, but he ran away to Canada and has been here ever since.

...so I guess, the moral of the story Dr. Livvy, is that you can come join us here in Canada and get out of your fitness testing :P
