Vatican Says Pope Died of Septic Shock, Cardio Collapse
Death Certificate Confirms for First Time Pontiff Had Parkinson's Disease

VATICAN CITY (April 3) - Pope John Paul II died of blood poisoning and the collapse of his blood vessels, the Vatican announced Sunday, releasing the official death certificate a day after the pontiff's passing.

The certificate listed the ailments the 84-year-old pope suffered from, including acknowledging officially for the first time that John Paul had Parkinson's disease.

John Paul, who died Saturday evening, had suffered heart and kidney failure brought on by a urinary tract infection last week. The official certificate used the medical terminology for blood poisoning and blood vessel collapse, which is septic shock and an irreversible cardio-circulatory collapse.

The other ailments listed were episodes of acute breathing insufficiency and a resulting tracheotomy to insert a breathing tube in his windpipe; cardiopathic hypertension; lack of blood flow; benign prostatic hypertrophy, or non-cancerous disfunction of the prostate, complicated by the urinary tract infection spreading to the blood.

The confirmation of the death was made through a heart monitoring machine, and he was declared dead after more than 20 minutes of monitoring his heart, the document said.

"I declare that the causes of death according to my science and my conscience are those that are indicated above," said Dr. Renato Buzzonetti, the pope's personal physician, in his signing of the certificate.

I was watching a film when I heard and there was this special news bulletin. I just felt so sad. But at least his suffering's over now.

On Friday they were already saying that he was about to die but were waiting for the confirmation of the Vatican. The school was hectic. We prayed... Kids cried. It was just so sad! And the yesterday when I heard he'd died.. I was, honestly, very very sad. It just feels as if something's missing, you know. I didn't know him personally or anything but he was a very significant person for all of us at school and the community in general... But yes, at least now he's pain free and with God where he belongs :)

In one hour I'm going to 'Silent March' with candles to pay homage to John Paul II.
It's mourning in Poland. Young people are sad, older too. We've missed Him already! And me too... When I read something about his life in the Internet or watching something on the televsion I have tears on my eyes...
But I know that he is not suffer anymore. He is happy with God. He is free of human's pain.

Yes... I'm pretty sad about him... people will remember him as one of the most significant men in history and no one will be able to take his place... well, at least he's not suffering anymore...

Didn't the pope say that continence was the only thing to prevent HIV/AIDS? And the stuff he said about abortion wasn't very nice either.

I hope a black gay man will be the next pope.

I agree with him with that what he said about abortion. We can't build a good World when we are killing our babys... I think it is true.
But except that he was a big man of our times, he was a great man privately. He had a gift to speek to people, he had a big actor's talent, he wrote many great poems. He had a big sense of humour ^^ And he did east Europe free.

I think that abortion is ok as longest it isn't used as a contraceptive. But what he said about HIV/AIDS...well... -.-
