CUTTING CORNERS COSTS LIVES IN THE ER - While examining a young boy, Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) finds a suspicious gash across his chest and calls Wendall (Madchen Amick) for a consult. Kovac (Goran Visjnic) and Pratt examine a man who got shot when he confronted his boss with a gun. Jake (Eion Bailey) tries to convince Abby (Maura Tierney) that being a student shouldn't keep him from dating her. Also starring Sherry Stringfield, Laura Innes, Noah Wyle, Shane West, Parminder Nagra, Linda Cardellini.

I didn't like the way they ended the kid abuse thing with him and the 6th graders. I think they could've at least had the parents heard or the police being reported...

Jake and Abby...NO NO NO!!! I really don't like them together and in my opinion I really hope it doesn't last long. Jake's kinda pushing it though and Abby, well kinda side-tracked there

Carter and Wendel; well first I still don't know of I'm spelling her name right. It's ok I guess but not the greatest. Poor Wendel though, she put all the blame on herself, sad though ain't it.

Pratt, he's certainly growing and I'm still liking him. It's nice when he went to the girl and said that he hopes she'll find that somebody. He's becoming sweet and I hope they find him somebody. Feel sorry about the boy he treated though, but he should've let Wendal finish; was sad when he wanted to keep going with the boy...

Susan, she's still one of the funniest people. Is she still blaming Carter on that drug thing though? I don't understand all that money junk, but sometimes I really don't like her as the boss.

Overall, I think it was a good eppy. Sorry for any spelling/grammer errors but I had to go to bed and I tried to be quick.

This eppy was okay. Not wonderful, not terrible, but somewhere in the middle.

Pratt is indeed all grown up. If we think back to late season 8, when his cocky ass first appeared in the ER, he was a reckloose who didn't care about his patients or working well with the other doctors. But now he knows the job and what really has to be done and how. He's got a little peace of everyone in him, carter, Kovac, Lewis. He works hard, makes good saves, and knows the rules and when the break them to save the patient. And he's an okay teacher. Pratt has come a long way.

Is anyone else completley thrilled that Abby finally dyed her hair back to brown?! :w00t: I am! I'm happy that she kissed Jake, but I've been wanting her hair to be brown again since "Chaos Theory" when she first dyed it. Needless to say, I didn't like the blonde. But I really think Jake will be good for Abby, he'll show her how to have some fun that doesn't always require a bottle of booze. I am loving that Jake, he's so cute and sweet, and Abby is so dumb for blowing him off at first. I would have been like "screw hospital policy!"

Luka is still fighting for the greater good of being a doctor. But he's really good at it, so it's fine by me.

Susan was kind of annyoing tonight. I mean, she was asking everyone to do research and stuff while 50 patients were in the waiting room. I know the hospital needs money, and it would really suck if she lost her job over this, but keeping patients waiting forever for care doesn't help anything.

Carter was right that things were alot easier when he and Susan were only residents and the attendings made all the hard choices. The funny thing is, it's still like that, but now people like Carter and Susan are the attendings. It seems like only yesterday Carter was a student and Susan was a resident. Time really flies!

-I knew that Tommy kid would come back dying, just because Wendall didn't get to talk to him alone.

-I still hate Dubenko, he's creepy and annoying.

-Did anyone think that the girl moaning at the beginning of the eppy was Neela sleeping with Ray? I did!

AHH! omg i loved that eppy.

I am absoulutley in love with jabby. lol. That kiss was kinda crazy. They we're just standing there and then all of a sudden they're like totally all over each other, and her hair was flyin every where. lol. But speaking of hair yes erfanfreak Im soooo happy that she died it back, i like it so much more and i think it makes her look 10x better. (not that she looked bad before).

Im dealing with Wendal I really did like her in the begining but the longer she's around the less i like her.

I liked Pratt in this one, I didnt even really used to think about him he was just sorta there, but now im starting to like him. Im glad he's growing up. overall i really liked it. But ESPECIALLY the Jake and Abby stuff, i think they are sooo cute.

Also I would really like to see jake become a regular cast member! Because one they dont have any regular med. students, and two It would mean that jake and abby would hopefully last longer and last but not least i would get to see more Jake!

What a AWESOME eppy. Just...WOW

First off, I have to retract any previous statement I have made regarding Pratt. He showed it all. I have taken my first step out of the closet and can now admit. I AM A PRATT FAN
Um..yeah.

I thoguht tonight's episode was good. I'm not a huge fan of Jake and Abby, but I'm happy to see that Abby is happy. I've always been a fan of Pratt, and was happy to see that the episode centered around him. I don't know what to think of Carter and Wendel, but we shall see what happens.

Another very good epi for the character development!! Susan, Pratt, Abby, Luka, Jake, Wendell, even Dubenko & the young med student, Jane! A good blend of medical cases & hospital protocols & people stories, workers & patients alike!!!
And GREAT depiction of how in some aspect of our lives, we are ALL Middlemen!!!! :iffy:

As for Abby---ITA with previous posters...She IS a Brunette...her natural coloring only increases MT's effectiveness in the role.......<I guess the writers can only 'see' Carter with a blonde, so Abby had to go thru the peroxide phase for the Carby-time> She did follow the rules & NOT date a student under her, despite the obvious attraction  , but once it was officially dispensed with, she "let it ALL hang out!" It's pretty obvious that Susan, both as boss & friend, is NOT going to discourage it in any way! So far, JABBY seems right......progressing in an adult manner, getting to know each other in many situations, & alot of mutual respect & trust building a good foundation....We'll see if the writers keep things "growing up" for Abby personnally with Jake, or if this is just another 'passing fancy' to get ratings during Sweeps. <_<

As for Pratt,...he IS growing up too, still needing to attend classes at "The School of Hard Knocks" though.....his own natural arrogance is helpful in about 33% of the situations he deals with & detrimental to some degree in the rest. He still needs to be a better teacher with his interns & medical students though, more tolerant & willing to allow them to experience & perform procedures while monitoring in less intense manner. Personally, the "lawyer girlfriend" who broke up with him was actually more superficial than her rationalizations....Greg's hours & job demands conflicted too much with hers,..so he wasn't acessible enough for her, plus a bit of Pratt 'egocentrism' is enough to make you feel he was just there for the 'playtime' too. However, he DID finally get a lesson from that little 6 yr old......RESPONSIBILITY to your patients (Luka taught him by example), Wendell gave it too him BOTH barrells verbally, & the circumstances 'kicked him' in the gut, balls, :med: and finally his Big Head!!! Hopefully this is last time he blows off another patient just to clear the board & make enough time to do his paperwork!

Luka & Sam are doing better, growing more comfortable & communicating better this week.....Samka is a reality & building a more stable foundation each week.

Dubenko & Luka's "turf war" was well, & accurately depicted in this epi.....the fight over who has the final say over a patient's course of treatment is often like this....one service overriding & ignoring the other's opinion, often to the patient's detriment.....In this case, LYsander Martin benefitted from it, but only because Luka was strong enough & confident enough in his assessment to force the issue.....but you can be sure it will show up on his "permenant record"......maybe another aspect of his 'Exit " storyline......we'll see........Dubenko was being a typical surgeon in terms of his assumption that HE was right versus anyone else who had treated the patient more than the 2 minutes he saw them & set them up for a surgical suite.....Heirarchy's & Politics are present in every bureaurocracy & often "trump" the original mission of the organization overall.....in this case...Excellence in medical care!

Speaking of the "mission".....Susan's revelation about her administrative quotas was also correct ......& the higher up the ladder you get, the more the demands of your job pull you away from the ethical, medical reasons you went into medicine for......& the more squarely the blame for "the bottom line" becomes your burden....like, why arent' you treating more patients each hour??? why aren't there more insured patients being treated & discharged?--you know, these factors you can SOOOOOOO control & manipulate  :P

As for the main medical story about the 6-yr old abused & killed by the 6th grade bullies, ---NO WONDER the kid didn't "feel well enought to go to school" that morning!!! :dizzy: .....I'm not sure even if Wendell had talked to him alone that what happened wouldn't have.--Could the parents have pulled him out of that school & been able to afford sending both boys to another??Private school tuition is a major financial hardship for families & that mother was already afraid of losing her job for being at the ER too long!! Wasn't she pregnant too with another child? Money had to be very tight!....you see it in the news all the time......our young children are reflecting the materialism (they wanted his shirt I thought?)violence of the world more & more accurately :irritated: ......At first though I thought the big half-brother was to blame,( the abuser), with all those "big eyed" looks :ph43r: going back & forth across the exam table. I'm glad the writers didn't resort to that old cliche of the abused step-children, ala Cinderella, but the alternative, 'real-life' storyline was pretty horrifying,,,,moreso because of it's truth!

NOTE TO ALL CARBY's out there...........you have to stop with the denial .......it's over......Jake is NOT just a passing fancy......Carter barely speaks to Abby, & he is as 'committed' to Wendell as his nature will let him be......Personally, I have to give up on my LUBY hopes too,..chances were slim for a renewal when he got back from Africa, but once Sam & her obnoxious son came into the picture, it was obvious TPTB had no intention of going there.....Samka is here for the duration of the season & then LUka AND Carter are gone. :dizzy: .....It's going to be a very different Season 12! Such is Life!!

I think I may be the only one who didn't like this episode a whole lot!!! I thought it was boring. It had two (or three) parts I liked. I LOVED Susan in charge at the beginning of the show...Pratt complaining to her and Carter responding "it's her ER". Good job!! I like Susan as the Boss. She has to get tougher, otherwise, no one would respect her.

I also liked seeing Luka not back down from the big, bad surgeon Dubenko. I still think he's a few fries short of a happy meal, but that's just me. And I love Luka!!

Third thing I liked was Abby & Jake...whoa, what a kiss!! Carby Schmarmy! Jake & Abby are H.O.T!!!

My main complain...where the heck was Kerry?? Ugh! It annoys me, but I'll excuse since next ep it'll be Laura Innes to the rescue again!! I can't wait!!

And yes at the beginning of the ep, I thought it was Ray's apartment too with Neela. Why did I think that? I don't know!!! Also, in the daylight, Pratt's bunkmate was....NOT cute!!

Yes, ERluv7....I think next week you will get enough of LI to do you for a while..I wonder who is directing this one? We likely will NOT get much of anyone else.....It's February Sweeps now....I wonder if someone is going to leave the show this month or not? Hopefully no one else on the cast has to die. <_<

I liked that episode! It's good that Pratt got a rude awakening but it's sad how it happened! I thought it was cool to see him go to that restaraunt too.

I don't know what it is about Dubenko but I really think he's creppy! I don't like him at all.

Yay, Jake and Abby kissed!!! I like him and I think he's perfect for her! He's a cutie! I'm happy now!
