Fall 2004

- A policeman who was shot in the neck is brought to the ER. So expect a lot of cops around the ER to make sure their injured co-worker will make through it. His teenage son must make decisions on the surgery his father will undergo. Chen is back at work in the ER but only has very few hours of sleep per day due to her having to take care of her father. A patient brings her chihuahua in the ER. Wendall is called in the ER about a patient transfer. Kovac has a chat with Alex’s principal because Alex had a Maxim magazine at school. Carter and Wendall go indoor climbing where Wendall’s ex-boyfriend works. Also, a Sumo wrestler drops by the ER. Neela, Ray, Lewis, Abby, Marquez, Sam, Pratt, Malik, Frank, and Dubenko appear in the episode. Source: SpoilerFix.com

- A policeman is shot, and his son has to make the decisions about his care, with help from a social worker (Wendall) and the staff. Parents of an ill child want to move her to a "better" hospital. She reaches crisis point and is treated at County, anyway. Luka meets with Alex's principal, after Alex gets caught at school with a Maxim magazine. We see friends of Ray's at one of his rock gigs. Plus, there's a seeing eye miniature horse, and a sumo wrestler. And in a later episode, Carter is at a climbing wall with Wendall, instructed by her nice ex-boyfriend. Source: ERForum

It seems Ray is asking Abby a favor (asking her to work New Year's Eve for him). In return, she asks if he will do some medical student teaching for her in January.

Abby : On New Years Eve.
Ray: Look at it this way. You won't have to go to some square dance by yourself. (off her look) Or with a date, whatever.
Abby: Can you give my med student lecture in January?

*Ray asks Abby to give him a flu shot.

*A blind woman approaches with her seeing-eye miniature horse when Abby is discussing with Carter the best way to rule out an appy for a ten year old girl. Abby notices and comments. By the time Carter turns around, the horse is gone. Later on Abby is checking on the blind woman. Frank says the horse has got to wait outside. Carter approaches. Abby introduces the elderly woman and her guide horse, Rudy. Frank complains. Abby mentions it's a seeing-eye horse. Carter says she can stay. Abby tell Carter thank you and he pets the horse. Later, Abby has the horse tied up when he licks Pearl's (elderly woman) wounds.

*Abby is involved in some case where the mother wants to have the patient transferred to Mercy. The hubby yells at Abby on the phone. Abby had told the mother that a surgeon from Mercy would have to accept the case before a transfer could be done. Wendall is called in. Carter/Abby do an ultrasound on the girl's belly. Carter can't find the appendix. If it's enlarged it usually is easy to find. Abby tells her that it's not a perfect test. You can have the disease even if the ultrasound is normal. Later on we see Wendall tell the mother that two physicians can override your consent. Dubenko signs, hands clipboard to Abby. Abby hesitates and Dubenko tells her to sign and let's go. They move her to the elevator as the mother complains. Abby tells her sorry. Dubenko tells Abby that no one gets in trouble for acting in the best interest of the patient. Abby says, "Tell that to Dr. Corday."

*Carter/Wendall near the end of the eppy are doing inside rock climbing with the ex apparently teaching Carter. Carter comments to Wendall, "big wall" when he sees the forty-foot wall. A few pages later we have this side note: Off Carter, his life in the ex-boyfriend's hands.

*Carter tells Wendall that her ex-boyfriend is quite a teacher.

*After seeing Brett in a tight spandex unitard he tells them, "see you next time." Carter mentions he's got an outfit like that at home, but he does not like to show it off. Wendall smiles and says she is hungry. Carter keeps mentioning a bunch of different types of food. She keeps turning it down. The last we have Carter walking Wendall to a phone book to find the yellow pages.

*Neela goes to see Ray playing in his band, but comments about him leaving work. Abby was mad when he dumped a patient on her.

*After Ray's sort of reference to Abby's lack of a date the scene continues with Abby walking up to the admit desk where Carter is standing.

Ray: "You have any plans for New Year's Eve?"
Abby: "You're really not my type."
Ray: "Funny..."

*Ray asked Abby to give him a flu shot when he's not expecting it. He's afraid of needles. Abby does eventually stick him:

Abby: "Ray, you forgot something."
(she then sticks him with the needle)
Abby: "Your flu shot."
(as she's walking away)
Abby: "You're welcome."

*Luka in with Alex's principle. BTW, turns out the Maxim magazine is Luka's.

*Wendall is in training for the triathlon. Wendall's ex is named Brett.

Brett: "So you two dating?"
Carter: "Just friends"
Brett: "That's how it starts (then) we went out for a year or two."
Carter: "Great."
Brett: "I thought we might get married......one day she tells me she wants to start seeing other people. See other people? Why say that? If you want to break up just do it."

*The scene later continues with Carter and Wendall trying to decide where to get something to eat. But they're not able to decide. Sushi? had it for lunch. Pizza? too many carbs.

*The story theme is a series of events that at first glance are thought to be one thing but turn out very different.

*The main story centers around a police officer, at first thought to be shot by a robbery suspect, but it turns out he was injured by friendly fire and the suspect only had a BB gun. His fiancée comes to be with him during the treatment in the trauma, but it turns out he has an ex-wife and a son, and there are not friendly relations between them all.

*Wendall determines the 15 year old son is a “mature minor” and can choose between two treatment options for his father. One option has less risk for death but also less probability for full recovery. The other option, surgery, has a higher risk of death and a higher probability of full recovery. The son wants the surgery but the ex-wife and another officer overrule the son, nearly browbeating him into the lesser option.

*Turns out, the son felt comfortable when Ray explained things, and Ray likes the kid as well. So the son was able to argue for surgery when Ray was around. However, Ray leaves at the end of his shift, and with Neela trying to run interference between the son and his mother, the son feels abandoned and overwhelmed, and agrees to their demands for the lesser option.

*The suspect from the shooting is brought in. Chen and Neela treat this patient and even the surgeon, Dubenko tries, but the man dies.

*At the end of the episode, Neela goes to a bar where Ray’s band is playing with the intention of telling him off.

*Abby treats a young girl who appears to have the flu symptoms, but then has more severe symptoms for appendicitis. The father, yelling on a phone, wants his daughter transferred to Mercy and the arrangements are made. However, Dubenko decides that the girl is critical, and asks Abby to sign emergency consent papers to provide surgery. She does so and the girl goes to surgery. The father arrives and the parents and Abby watch the surgery – Dubenko assuring them that all is going well – when the alarms start going off.

*Meanwhile, Ray first asks Abby to give him a flu shot but to do it quickly, without him noticing it because he has a “thing” about needles. By the end of the episode, she succeeds in giving him the shot. In addition, Ray also asks Abby to work a shift for him on New Year’s Eve but she extracts a promise from him to lecture to her med students in January.

*Pratt treats a man who was injured while wrestling with his nephew but the symptoms don’t seem serious, and Chen tells him he can discharge the patient without her examination. Later, Chen tells Pratt how it is going with her father; she takes care of him all night and doesn’t get much sleep. The patient returns in pain and they determine the man’s spleen is injured. Chen berates Pratt for not doing a thorough exam on the man earlier, and he retorts that she was too tired to look herself. Well – it turns out the “nephew” is the size of a sumo-wrestler. Later, Pratt notices Chen taking home some vials of potassium, which Chen says is to control her father’s diarrhea but Pratt knows it is enough to stop someone’s heart.

*An elderly lady, Pearl, has a see-eye miniature horse that Frank objects to but Carter allows to stay. Abby treats the woman and the little horse licks the wound area while Abby has stepped away.

*Luka must be working nights because he wakened by a call from Alex’s school in the middle of the day saying Alex was suspended. He calls Sam at work, saying he doesn’t know why and she tells him to go. He goes to the meeting with the school principal and learns Alex brought a Maxim magazine – it was Luka’s magazine – to school. At first the principal is pleased that Luka is a parent figure in Alex’s life but is unimpressed that Sam and Alex have been living with Luka for a week. Luka has “the talk” with Alex, but is uncomfortable with it as Alex notes that Playboy had a good article about Donald Trump. Later, Sam comes home to find Luka having a beer; he offers her one and she asks if she needs a beer in order to learn why Alex is in trouble.

*Carter goes wall-climbing with Wendall, saying that he did it when he was a kid and learns she is in training for a triathlon. He meets Brett, her ex-boyfriend, who tells him that he and Wendall went out for a couple of years and then suddenly she told him she wanted to see other people. Afterwards, Carter offers dinner, and then several places but Wendall doesn’t like any of them for one reason or another.

You know what I was thinking...during the rock wall climbing the music indoors should be Lifehouse "Hanging By a Moment"...then even though Carter is with Wendell he'll think of Abby because that is basically their song.

WHAT!?! As if you all expect anything less from my Carby obsessed self!?!

Does anybody but me think that Neela and Ray are going to hook up in the upcoming episodes? I mean come on. From the spoilers I read she already lives with him! What I think is going to happen is that they are going to fall for eachother. Then Gallant is going to come back hoping to start over with Neela but finds out that she is now in love with Ray. She is going to feel bad when he finds out and he's going to go back to Iraq mad at her. Then he will be killed. Yup. That's my prediction. Anyone else?

Neela
Always Neela
