'ER' Wheelchair Available In Charity Auction (CBS) CALABASAS, Calif. Aug 21, 2006 4:03 am US/Pacific Bidding begins Monday on a wheelchair that was featured on “ER” and signed by the show’s cast and guest-star, actor James Woods. Proceeds from the wheelchair’s auction aid research and programs for people living with Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as ALS. In an episode of "ER" last season, Woods used the wheelchair in his Emmy-nominated portrayal of Dr. Nate Lennox, who had the degenerative disease in which sufferers are slowly paralyzed. "James Woods' portrayal of Dr. Nate Lennox was a watershed moment in the quest to raise public awareness about this devastating disease," said Gary A. Leo, the president and CEO of The Association. "The winning bidder will own a piece of television history and help us enormously in helping others." Before the episode was filmed, James Woods met with six people currently living with ALS, who advised him on how to play the role. The wheelchair, a C500 Corpus model, was donated to the association by Permobil Inc. Its hands-free eye communication system was donated by Eye Response Technologies. The auction begins at 8 a.m. at http://www.alsat.cmarket.com. |
