ACTOR BRINGS THE GOSPEL TO ER
Published: August 07, 2006

Pitch Black and Barbershop actor Keith David checks into NBC hospital drama.

Keith David has joined the cast of NBC's ER in a recurring role as a preacher at an inner-city church.
Along with Dr. Pratt (Mekhi Phifer), his character bends the rules to help his congregation navigate the health-care system. David, an Emmy winner for his voice-over work on the documentary Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson, most recently appeared on the big screen in ATL and on Broadway in Hot Feet.
In the 1980s, David had memorable roles in John Carpenter's films The Thing and They Live. Recently, he appeared as the unscrupulous landowner in Barbershop.

You know, there are two kinds of doctors: the kind that get rid of their feelings, and the kind that hold on to them. If you're going to hold on to your feelings, you're going to get sick every once in a while. That's part of it. Helping people is more important than how we feel. Hell, I've been doing this eight years, and I still get sick.
