(especially u Rach at the mention of the "D" word)

Alex

Hehe, hanks Alex. Most of what I say is in jest, as was that comment about the D-Word. Also, thankyou for your apology too, it's really nice that we get them both ways. Thanks.

This is a drama show. It's also a relaistic show.

In reality the chances of a baby born like Abby's at her age surviving are small.

Sad as it is, dead babies makes better drama. Also, babies are awkward and hard to write in to a long running multi-story drama show such as ER.

The odds are against this baby surviving.

My apologies for only replying to this now (it was several pages ago), but I've been away.

Anyway, if you're talking about the baby's gestational age, in the finale Abby would be about 29-30 weeks along, an age at which the chances of a baby surviving are greater than 90%, so even if the baby is born in 13.1, it would have a good chance of survival. If you meant Abby's age - plenty of women that age have babies that are perfectly fine. I just thought I'd clear that up! (That's not to say the baby is certain to live, of course).

As for whether or not dead babies make good drama - I've seen my fair share of them in TV shows and it's the most depressing storyline around. While dramatic, there isn't much in storylines like that to be optimistic about, and I'm not sure if the ER audience at large (which is kinda fragile as it is) would take to such a storyline. But that's JMO.
I would put some shipper message here, but I'm just not *that* kind of fan...

I meatn Abby's age. At the age of 40, which is roughly Abby's age according to some info I gleamed, the chance of concieving is slimmer. The chance of bith is slimer. Finally the chance of birth without defect is slimmer. I'm not saying it's impossible, far from it, or I wouldn't have the younger brother I do today. However, the chances are lessened and I feel that is something that must be taken into consideration. Whilst the child may suvive it may not be perefctly healthy either.

Then again, it might. We just don't know. We're just a bunch of fans who have no control over the show or the script. What happens shall happen. End of.
