Um, why do we keep visiting the Africa thing? Has NBC not relized yet that a majority of their viewers really don't like these episodes? I love Carter, and would love to see him revisit ER on occassion, but not if that means we have to do another Africa episode.

Well, once again TPTB have taken us to Africa to put a terrible injustice in the forefront. And despite the obviously 'sanitized' version of the IDP camps, they've gotten much of the violence, greed & corruption & political indifference right. However, I wonder ......how do they know which of the mulititude of catastrophic military-political coups/civil wars on just this one continent is going to hit the headlines? :dizzy: They seem to be almost psychic about the "Civil War of the Month"....or is someone doing research with the State Dept.? They do tend to make it pretty heavy-handed, & now with the great, Wise Dr. Carter :ph43r: leading the charge .....mentoring Pratt, & even Dakari & Debbie to some extent, I find myself wondering .......Is it maybe something personal for Noah? Or for Michael C.?
In any case, PLEASE can we go back to Chicago? And can Pratt have finally learned something about his 'mortal powers'? :hit:

As epi's go, I'd rate this no better than a 5 / 10, but I'm really leaning a bit lower. Especially when Dakari came walking back into Darfur! Total fantasy! :neener: How dead :radioactive: would he be in "real life" in the same situation between the desert, the Janjareen (sp?), & his severe medical condition? Same goes for the pregnant woman & likely her baby after the crude, non-antiseptic C-section being hauled :med: then dragged, bleeding internally across the desert, AND her GSW husband after IV's were ripped out of him, & only patched over wounds, :hit: being thrown in a filthy jail by vindictive 'police'! Only in Hollywood! There would have been 3 or 4 more graves easily!
I'm going to bed now...sorry I stayed up for this one!

I really hate the Africa episodes.... I only watched it for the previews for next week. Although I am glad that Pratt is starting to appreciate why he's there. See He should be thanking Luka for sending him! Anway I wish Carter would visit County so we don't have to see the Africa episodes anymore....

Hello! I have been reading this board for awhile but have never posted on it before. I'm not even sure what this post will look like as there are so many mode/code buttons, and I don't know what everything means!

Anyway, like most of you, I have also been a huge ER fan over the past several years and anxiously await each Thursday night when I know a new episode is airing. I have enjoyed reading comments here and feeling like I am not the only person in the world who loves ER and who really gets caught up in the lives of the characters!

Tonight, for the first time, I feel really compelled to throw my comments out here - for whatever they may be worth -- about this evening's episode. The Darfur episodes are not my favorite ones, but I must say that I really do applaud ER for drawing attention to this part of the world. It is hard to imagine living like the people there actually live, surrounded by conflict and uncertainty. I mean, I know there is a lot of "Hollywood" in every episode and not everything is true-to-life. But the fact remains that people all over the world do live in fear for their lives each day and in locations where medical care, clean water, and food are very scarce.

Living in the United States, it is hard to imagine life like that.......We can change the channel when something comes on TV that is hard to swallow, and we can choose not to acknowledge the suffering that exists in other parts of the world. But as much as we try to create our own realities, the fact remains that suffering is out there in ways we cannot even comprehend.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing the last two episodes of this season in the actual ER. But I am glad to see the show drawing attention to an issue that we might not otherwise be exposed to: the unimaginable plight of people in third-world countries.

For those of you who actually read through this post, thanks! I appreciate being able to share my thoughts here!

Gosh was I disappointed. I waited for I don't even remember how long for new episodes and for some reason my PVR missed last week's episode so tonight after a long day of work, I came home and was all excited to watch the new episode. I didn't watch nor read any previews so I didn't know what to expect. When I pressed play and saw the African background, I was like "NOOOooooo.... not again?!". Nonetheless, I still had a little bit of hope by thinking that the ep may switch between Darfur and Chicago. Thank goodness for my PVR because I forwarded everything until the end. I know nothing about the plot of this ep and I intend to never know about it; I'm so sick of these African eps.

I've been watching the first 15 minutes of this episode now and I am really 2 minutes away from turning it off!
I really hate Africa episodes!!!! <_<
New Carby signature yet to come!

A reason for Carby: Because Carter provides the "lo." And Abby the "ve."
Because he is the sky to her clouds.

Can't I be obsessed with both?

I actually liked this episode, I thought it was interesting. I thought stephan(sp?) had died, good to see he didn't die. I don't get what he said though in the end, when he said "I wasn't going to stick around when they blew up the car" was he hiding behind a bush or something? oh well, Can't wait for next week.

I'm with you Carter&Kemfan, it was a good episode. :D And it's Janjaweed, if I remember correctly. There were a lot of good points made in tonight's episode, and if you guys could get over yourselves, you might actually see that. It's real, it's happening, and these are peoples' lives that are being played with in Darfur. I've lived in Africa (though I am an American citizen) and seen that level of absolute poverty that boggles our western minds, so maybe it's a bit more real to me. *shrugs* But I applaud TPTB for shoving it down our throats, someone needs to! :P

As for Pratt, well, I love Pratt in Africa. His arrogance astounds me:

Stephan: "She thinks we are angels, but I told her there are no angels here."
Pratt: "Speak for yourself."

And Carter? To me it seems as though he is finally getting the hang of things. TPTB is at last letting him mature and getting him out of his med school days. I love Carter  , so I always enjoy seeing him, no matter where he is- Africa or Chicago.

Anyway I liked this episode, although I can't wait to see what's been happening at County...

Hi everyone,
I am a new member and just wanted to second those who liked and appreciated this epi. I applaud TPTB for using their power for good -- getting a message out to many people who might otherwise be ignorant of the situation in Darfur.
Our American media are so insular and hardly report anything that happens outside the U.S. I was in England TWO YEARS AGO, and they were going on about the Sudan on all the news shows. We were like "what the hell?" We hadn't even heard anything about it, and it's just now that many people here are becoming aware of it. Also, I think a dramatized depiction of a situation like this is sometimes more effective than news reports in really getting the message across to people and making them care.
I mean, I heard stuff on the news about Rwanda for years and never really had a clue what went on there until I saw some of the movie depictions in recent years. It's sad, but I suspect a lot of people are the same way.

That said, I do prefer the hospital epis, of course. I don't look forward to the Africa ones as much, but I do think they are done very well and I always enjoy them once I get into them. I loved seeing a lot of Pratt this week. He can be awesome in the proper dose.
He sure does bring the cocky, though. As lubylover319 mentioned, I loved his reponse to "There are no angels here."

I saw George Clooney on Bill Maher the other night talking about Darfur, and I wondered, could his involvement there have any relation to the emphasis this topic has received on ER? Is he still involved any way with ER, like a producer or anything? It was weird seeing him talking about it while all the current ER docs are over there all the time.
I only became a fan of this show in the past couple of years, but I love it!

I've said it once and I'll say it again!!! The Africa episodes are NOT my favorite and yesterday's was no exceptions. I didn't hate it but didn't like it either. For me, it had it's moment, specifically two moments:

1) When the police was looking for the pregnant woman and in turn found Debbie. Those were tense moments...I loved that sequence!

2) At the end when Dakarai came in walking into the camp I was very excited! I know it's probably not very realistic, but I liked his character and I wanted to see him come back.

Oh another cute moment...the little boy who took Pratt to the hospital in town! What a cute boy and the "good stuff" was very, very cute!!!

Let's hope Pratt comes back a somewhat changed man!!! Looking forward to the next two eps & some Luby scenes!!!

Okay so here's my in put : The episode, I'll give it a 5 or 6 because really guys the name of the show is called "ER" not "Let's go on a field trip to Darfur" it was educatinal more than anything it did have it's good moments like everyone all ready mentioned. I liked carter and pratt working together and it was a little scary. just a little. I would like to see more abby luka scenes beacuase well there are only 2 more epis to the season. *sadness* The episode really made me relize what was going on in the world and did send a powerfull message. It's a very creative way I guess in getting the viewers to really know whats going on in the world. but really, I just wanna watch ER.

I was actually not looking forward to this episode. I was frustrated that we only had three episodes left to wrap up all the great storylines in Chicago, and tptb still gave us an all Africa eppy. Dont get me wrong, I have been a big Darfur advocate in my community, and i love that tptb are promoting the terrors that occur every day over there, but thats not why i watch the show. I did tune in last night though, and was pleasantly surprised at the happy ending. That was the biggest ER shocker, in my opinion! Ive been so busy preparing myself for the hell that breaks loose in the last two eppys, that Ive forgotten that tptb is even capable of ending something on a good note! :haha: So i guess in the end i was happy that i watched this eppy, its not the plotline i would have gone with, but i think it was very good.
